Prayer For Stress Over Finances
Prayer for Your Finances
For some, Christmas can be a time of excitement, fun, and generosity. Unfortunately though, for others it can be a time of worry and anxiety due to finances. Sometimes the end of the year, corresponding with Christmastime, comes with extra expenses.
Then on top of that, purchasing gifts can add up…especially if you have numerous events family celebrations, work parties, church events, Secret Santa gift exchanges, outreaches or charitable giving that requires some of our finances, etc.
Sometimes it can be stressful figuring out where the money is going to come from for all of that.
The wise thing to do would be to budget for the end-of-year expenses and Christmas giving. It’s a good idea to allocate or set aside a little bit of money each week or each month for this purpose.
Regrettably, many of us haven’t exercised this kind of wisdom (or unexpected events and expenses have prohibited us from doing so). Because of this, when we don’t use wisdom sometimes we have to pay the consequences of poor decision making. That being said though, God still cares about our finances. He cares about the details. Additionally, even when we mess up He still cares about helping us.
Several years ago, I learned a few strategies for praying over finances. With Christmastime being a stressful time for finances for many people, I thought this might be a good opportunity to share some of those strategies and a Prayer for Your Finances. These strategies and prayer work anytime though–they don’t just apply at Christmas!
Remind God of His promise provision
God is our provider. We can approach God boldly with His promise of provision. Philippians 4:19 promises us that God will supply all of our needs. Jesus also gives us an example to pray for our needs in the Lord’s Prayer.
Moreover, one of God’s names is Jehovah Jireh, which means “the Lord will provide”. All throughout scripture you will see countless examples of the Lord’s provision.
When praying over your finances, remind God (put Him in remembrance) of His promise of provision.
“Put me in remembrance; let us argue together; set forth your case, that you may be proved right.” Isaiah 43:26 (ESV)
“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19 (KJV)
“Give us this day our daily bread” Matthew 6:11 (KJV)
“Then Abraham looked up and saw a ram caught by its horns in a thicket. So he took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering in place of his son. Abraham named the place Yahweh-Yireh (which means “the LORD will provide”). To this day, people still use that name as a proverb: “On the mountain of the LORD it will be provided.”” Genesis 22:13-14 (NLT)
“God is my helper! The Lord is the provider for my life.” Psalm 54:4 (GW)
Take a look at this hilarious short video clip of Joe McGee when he was at a point in his life where he was frustrated financially and decided to put God in remembrance of His promise of provision.
Pray for wisdom over your finances
If we want to be blessed financially, we need to use wisdom where our finances are concerned. We need to learn to be wise with our money. Pray for God to give you wisdom over your finances…to make good decisions regarding money and to keep you from making foolish decisions.
“If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.” James 1:5 (NLT)
“For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold.” Proverbs 3:14 (NLT)
“How much better to get wisdom than gold, and good judgment than silver!” Proverbs 16:16 (NLT)
Pray for supernatural favor over your finances
Sometimes we just need a little bit of favor or some extra “oomph” over our finances. Did you know that favor belongs to you? It’s part of your covenant with God. Favor is part of the package deal—it comes along with your salvation.
We have many blessings, the blessings of Abraham (Galatians 3:13-14, Deuteronomy 28:1-14), that are ours through Christ. Because of Christ we have the favor of God and can invite that favor into our lives and circumstances, including but not limited to our finances.
You just need to ask…after all, ‘You have not because you ask not’ (James 4:3).
“Surely, LORD, you bless the righteous; you surround them with your favor as with a shield.” Psalm 5:12 (NIV)
“And I will give these people such favor in the sight of the Egyptians that when you go, you will not go empty-handed.” Exodus 3:21 (HCSB)
“The LORD gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians. Furthermore, the man Moses himself was greatly esteemed in the land of Egypt, both in the sight of Pharaoh’s servants and in the sight of the people.” Exodus 11:3 (NASB)
“The Lord gave the people favor in the sight of the Egyptians, so that they gave them what they asked. And they stripped the Egyptians [of those things].” Exodus 12:36 (NLT)
“The angel went to her and said, “Greetings, you who are highly favored! The Lord is with you.”” Luke 1:28 (NIV)
“But Christ has rescued us from the curse pronounced by the law. When he was hung on the cross, he took upon himself the curse for our wrongdoing. For it is written in the Scriptures, “Cursed is everyone who is hung on a tree.
” Through Christ Jesus, God has blessed the Gentiles with the same blessing he promised to Abraham, so that we who are believers might receive the promised Holy Spirit through faith.
” Galatians 3:13-14 (NLT) (see also Deuteronomy 28:1-14)
“Once I was young, and now I am old. Yet I have never seen the godly abandoned or their children begging for bread.” Psalm 37:25 (NLT)
“Even strong young lions sometimes go hungry, but those who trust in the LORD will lack no good thing.” Psalm 34:10 (NLT)
Pray for increased channels of blessing
My pastor has taught for years that blessing, including and especially financial blessing, comes through channels. When God wants to get money to us, it doesn’t just fall the sky or appear nowhere.
It comes through channels…through work, through exchange (of services, goods, or intellectual property), through people, etc. Sometimes we just need an extra channel to be opened up for money to flow through. We can pray for increased channels of blessing.
I often to pray Revelation 3:7-8, for God to open doors and/or ideas for additional channels of income (and for the wrong doors to be shut).
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the LORD of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows** of heaven for you.I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!” Malachi 3:10 (NLT) **Note: Windows are a channel for light, air, etc.
to go through.
“To the angel of the church in Philadelphia write: These are the words of him who is holy and true, who holds the key of David. What he opens no one can shut, and what he shuts no one can open.
I know your deeds. See, I have placed before you an open door that no one can shut. I know that you have little strength, yet you have kept my word and have not denied my name.
” Revelation 3:7-8 (NIV)
Pray for true prosperity
My definition of true prosperity is to have what you need at the time you need it and to always have more than enough. True prosperity is being blessed so that you can be a blessing to others. Pray that God will bless your finances in such a way that your own needs are met and that you also have enough left over to be able to help others.
“God can give you all you need. He will give you more than enough. You will have everything you need for yourselves. And you will have enough left over to give when there is a need.” 2 Corinthians 9:8 (NLV)
“Remember this—a farmer who plants only a few seeds will get a small crop. But the one who plants generously will get a generous crop. You must each decide in your heart how much to give.
And don’t give reluctantly or in response to pressure. “For God loves a person who gives cheerfully.” And God will generously provide all you need.
Then you will always have everything you need and plenty left over to share with others.” 2 Corinthians 9:6-8 (NLT)
“And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.'” Acts 20:35 (NLT)
“When I fed the 5,000 with five loaves of bread, how many baskets of leftovers did you pick up afterward?” “Twelve,” they said. “And when I fed the 4,000 with seven loaves, how many large baskets of leftovers did you pick up?” “Seven,” they said.” Mark 8:19-20 (NLT)
I praise you that you are my Provider! Thank you for providing and meeting ALL of my needs according to your riches in glory through Christ Jesus. Today I ask for wisdom over my finances, for supernatural favor over my finances and for increased channels of blessing.
Please give me ideas and open doors that no one can close, and close the wrong doors. I pray for and thank you in advance that I will always have what I need at the time I need it and that I will always have more than enough. Thank you that you are blessing me so that I can be a blessing to others.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.

8 Good Catholic Prayers for Financial Blessings
Sometimes it may feel you are suffering from a financial curse. As is written in 1 Timothy 6:10, “the love of money is the root of all evil.” In moments of financial destitution, you must stand by God’s word and pray for relief. Here is a look at some of the best Catholic Prayers for financial blessings.
Heavenly Father, I Come before you today to ask for a financial blessing to improve my life. My faith keeps me strong, and I know you will provide for me and the people I love. I do not seek a large sum of money.
I do not trouble you for unneeded comforts or luxury. I only ask for enough money to relieve my financial woes and ease this stress. Give me the means to do your work, and spread your Love.
I have so much to give, if only I were allowed the chance.
In your name I pray, Amen
Dear Lord, Help me find firm ground in this shaky economy. As I seek work and assistance, Give me strength not to be anxious when I seem to be going nowhere; Give me patience not to despair when things look bleak; Give me serenity to know you are here with me, helping me to carry my crosses each day; So that I may do Your will, For the salvation of souls
And my Eternal Life.
Dear Lord, In this time of uncertainty, Be my rock in a world built on sand; Be my oasis of grace and peace in a world of tension and turmoil; Help me to carry my cross gracefully, as you did in Your Passion; Help me to follow Your beam of light in the midst of this darkness; Help me to see Your will in all things
And show others Your comfort and strength.
Keep me calm when tempers flare up; Keep me sane in a crazy world; Keep me focused on the houses in Heaven rather than the houses of cards collapsing around me; Keep my eyes focused on the prize of Heaven and not lose hope in You in this world or in the world to come; Make me compassionate in dealing with others; Let me see my travails as carrying my cross and sharing in Your Passion, for the love of You and for the salvation of souls, including mine.
And may all my difficulties be ultimately for my good and Your glory. Amen.
I surrender my financial affairs and concerns about money to your Divine care and love. I ask that you remove my worries, anxieties, and fears about money, and replace them with faith. I know and trust that my debts will be paid and money will flow into my life. I have only to look to nature to see proof of the abundance you provide.
I release all negative thoughts about money, and know that prosperity is my true state. I commit to being grateful for all that I now have in my life. I learn to manage my finances wisely, seeking help where needed.
And finally, I ask you to help me understand my purpose in life and to act on that purpose with courage and strength. I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love. Please help me use my skills and knowledge to be of service in the world. Thank you, God.
O Mother of Perpetual Help, grant that I may ever invoke thy most powerful name, which is the safeguard of the living and the salvation of the dying.
O purest Mary, O sweetest Mary, let thy name henceforth be ever on my lips.
Delay not, O Blessed Lady, to help me, whenever I call on thee; for, in all my temptations, in all my needs, I shall never cease to call on thee, ever repeating thy sacred name, Mary, Mary.
O what consolation, what sweetness, what confidence, what emotion, fill my soul when I utter thy sacred name, or even only think of thee. I thank the Lord for having given thee, for my good so sweet, so powerful, so lovely a name. But I will not be content with merely uttering thy name. Let my love for thee prompt me ever to hail thee, Mother of Perpetual Help.
Realizing, dear Mother Mary, that thou art our Perpetual Help not only in spiritual but wise in temporal necessities, we approach thee with submissive and humble hearts, because we have a child- confidence in thy power and goodness, beseeching thee to assist us in our present financial worry.
Owing to untoward circumstances which have arisen in our lives, we are in dire want, being unable to meet our honest debts. We are not asking, dearest Mother for wealth, if possession of it is not in accordance with the holy will of God; we merely beg for that assistance which will enable us to satisfy our pressing obligations. We believe, dear Mother, that thou art the Queen of heaven and earth,
and, as such, the instrument and special dispensation of thy Son Jesus Christ; that thou hast acquired by virtue of thy wonderful dignity, a sweet jurisdiction over all creation.
We believe that thou art not only rich and bountiful, but extremely kind and generous to all thy loving children. We plead with thee then, dear Mother, to obtain for us the help we so urgently need in our present financial difficulty. We thank thee, dear Lady and promise to publish far and wide, the marvels of thy glorious Picture.
Lord, you are the source of all my sustenance. I pray that you hear my prayer and guide me in your infinite wisdom. My spirit is full, but my wallet is empty! I need your help. My finances are in crisis, and are causing me great pain.
Please uplift my heart so that I may appreciate all that I do have so that I may also be blessed with more prosperity. Money issues bring me down, and I forget to thank You for all that I do have thanks to Your blessings.
Please remind me of Your abundance, so that my money will Once again flow in to me, and sustain me as much as Your loving care.
Dear God, my struggles with money are bringing me down. I am in dire need for myself and my family. I know that You have all answers, and You always hear me.
Please shine your infinite light into my life, Bless me with abundance so that my family may thrive.
I thank You for all You have done for me to date And I pray You will always remind me when I forget That my spirit and soul always dwell in Your good graces. Thank You oh Lord, for blessing me with material comfort
So that I am reminded of the bountiful fruits of Your deeds.

Does Prayer or Meditation Help with Personal Finance?
When people are struggling in life, they often turn to prayer and meditation to help them to deal with those problems. People who believe in God often pray to their maker, while those who have other theistic views might choose to meditate to bring them spiritual guidance. Some people choose to do both.
Regardless of whether you believe someone is listening to your prayer or whether you’re simply meditating for the purpose of your own personal focus and peace of mind, I believe that prayer and meditation can actually help. Here’s how.
First, meditation and focused prayer have health benefits. These practices raise our tolerance of common aches and pains.
These practices thicken the prefrontal cortex, strengthening our mental acuity. It lowers the risk of heart disease, lowers blood pressure, and strengthens the immune system.
Those things all result in less productivity lost and lower health care expenses.
Most importantly, meditation and focused prayer can reduce stress. The amygdala is the part of our brains that is directly altered by stress and thickens when we’re feeling continuous stress. Prayer and meditation have been shown to reduce the thickness of the amygdala.
Second, meditation and focused prayer provides us with an opportunity to mentally focus on what we need to change in our lives. Regardless of whether we’re focused on financial success or any other aspect of our life, both prayer and meditation give us a chance to mentally focus on those things. Most of the well-established practices for focused prayer and meditation revolve around focusing deeply on the topic at hand. Sure, you can “meditate” by closing your eyes for a minute or you can “pray” by thoughtlessly reciting an old memorized item, but neither one really helps on a deep level.
Third, the mental focus provided by focused prayer and meditation carries over into the rest of your life. The thing that you focus on during your meditation and prayer silently becomes more important in your life and you tend to make better decisions in those areas, consciously or otherwise.
If you do it for a week or two, you’ll start slowly noticing a real permanent shift in your mindset in the areas you were focusing on. Keep going with it and you’ll see the benefits spreading throughout your life.
I’ve witnessed this phenomenon countless times in my own life. Time spent meditating or praying on something causes me to subtly make better decisions in that area in my life. Those better decisions lead to better results. Those better results essentially appear as a positive outcome to that prayer or meditation.
How to Meditate or Pray in a Focused Way
For me, there is little functional difference between prayer and meditation. Both simply revolve around focusing on some specific aspect of your life, usually in the form of some central word or phrase or short poem, but it can be other things. The biggest difference between the two comes from whether you are calling out to a higher power, which is really up to you.
When I do this, I usually decide in advance that I want to focus on something specific. I usually try to find some aspect of my life that I wish I was doing better than I currently am.
Maybe I want to be a better parent. Maybe I want to make better financial decisions. Maybe I want to improve my financial shape. Maybe I want to be a better husband. Maybe I want to get in better physical shape.
Maybe I want to be a better friend.
Whatever the focus, I think of a way to describe the change I want to see in myself. Sometimes, it’s a simple sentence. At other times, it might be longer – a paragraph or two in length. Sometimes I’ll write these things myself; at other times, I’ll find pre-written ones; at still other times, I’ll do them completely off the top of my head.
Then, I spend some time quietly focusing on that phrase or sentence or paragraph that I’ve chosen. I close my eyes, attempt to relax, and run through the text in my head, usually a word or a phrase at a time.
I focus on the word and phrase, repeating it and turning it over in my mind and think about what it really means to me and how I’m thankful for what I have and what improvements I want to implement regarding that piece.
I’ll go through the text, then repeat back through it a time or two, usually up to about fifteen minutes or so.That’s it! I get up and go about the rest of my day, usually feeling calmer and happier.
For those of you who would an example of a meditation (one that doesn’t call out to a higher power) and a prayer (one that does) for personal finance success, here they are. I’ve chosen a short and long version of each one.
A Short Meditation for Financial Success and Prosperity
This is a short meditation I wrote myself. Focus on each key word – choose, moderation, discipline, spirituality, and abundance.
I choose to live a life of moderation, discipline, and spirituality. My life is prosperous, and moderation, discipline, and spirituality will lead me to greater abundance.
A Longer Meditation for Financial Success and Prosperity
This is a modified version of this meditation for when you’re stressing about money found at MindBodyGreen.
It is in giving that we receive. As we sow abundantly, we reap abundantly.
My life is blessed with so much abundance, so much prosperity, so much success.
As I give and share generously and abundantly, my life is blessed with great prosperity. I am so blessed with this tremendous prosperity.
I choose to live a life of moderation, discipline and spirituality.
I am healthy and very happy. I am enjoying every moment of my life.
May every person, every being be blessed with good health, happiness, prosperity and spirituality.
With thanks and in full faith. So be it.
A Short Prayer for Financial Success and Prosperity
This is a short prayer I wrote myself. Recite it slowly in your mind or aloud, as you feel is appropriate.
Dear God, thank you so much for the abundance I already have. Help me to be free of anxiety and stress and to have the awareness I need to make better money decisions. Amen.
A Longer Prayer for Financial Success and Prosperity
This is a modified version of a prayer for financial success found at BeliefNet.
I ask that you remove my worries, anxieties, and fears about money, and replace them with faith.
I ask you to help me understand my purpose in life and to act on that purpose with courage and strength. I know that prosperity will come, in part, by doing work I love. Please help me use my skills and knowledge to be of service in the world.
I ask you for the strength I need to make difficult financial choices, to change my daily money decisions, and to get rid of my debts and build for my future.
I ask you to help me release all negative thoughts about money, and know that prosperity is my true state.
I know and trust that my debts will be paid and money will flow into my life. I have only to look to nature to see proof of the abundance you provide.
I commit to being grateful for all that I now have in my life.
Thank you, God.
My perspective, having used both prayer and meditation in my life, is that they often have a similar effect on the mind and body. I usually feel far more relaxed after prayer or meditation, for example, and my stress level usually falls quite a bit. I usually find that I follow prayer and meditation with better decisions in the short term.
More than that, when this practice is a part of my life on a regular basis, a calmer state of mind and somewhat better decisions seem to come utterly naturally. I firmly believe that a regular practice of meditation or prayer (depending on your spiritual beliefs or preferred practice) can do a lot to improve your mindset that can really help your financial state.
I personally attribute this practice as playing a major role in my ability to turn my spending habits around, which led directly to our family’s financial turnaround. This practice went a long way toward convincing me that I didn’t really need a lot of the stuff I was spending my money on, as it forced me to really consider what I was doing and what the long-term cost is.This practice is a daily part of my life today. A day isn’t complete if I don’t spend some time focusing directly on a challenging part of my life and seek help to change them. I hope that it can play a similarly powerful role in your life, too.
