Wedding Thank You Card Wording Samples

Thank you for Married Life

Expressing your appreciation and gratitude to family and friends who sent best wishes and wedding gifts is one of the most important part of a wedding.

Sending a thank you card with your warmest thoughts and appreciation to their presence and gifts on the most important events of your life is probably a must-do task of every wedded couple.

While it must be easier to write a wedding thank you messages to those who attended and gave wedding gifts, writing wording for guests who didn’t attend and those who gave “unappealing” gifts might be a daunting task.

When writing a wedding thank you card wording, there are several factors to consider. First is the timing. You have to make sure that the wedding thank you card will be sent at least two months after the wedding.

Next one is the wording for the wedding thank you card. It should not be generic. It should be meant for particular recipient (i.e.

for parents, for friends, for those who gave money gift, for those who didn’t attend, etc).

Here are some samples of wedding thank you wording samples that you can use. You can use formal or informal greetings depending on how close you are to the recipient. It can be either “Dear Mr. Cowell” or “Dear Allan”. As closing greetings, you can use best wishes, love lots, sincerely, etc.

10 Things to Stop Saying to Your Newly Married Friends

Thank you for Married Life

Advice abounds for people who just tied the knot, and to some degree, hearing about the experiences of others can be helpful. But too often, friends and family members make awkward, embarrassing, or downright annoying comments to newlyweds. Here are the 10 things to stop saying to your newly married friends, and why.

1. “How is married life?”

Friends of mine joke about married life being exactly unmarried life, minus the wedding planning. Another said, “Well, last night we watched six episodes of Criminal Minds, ignored the pile of laundry, and passed out by 11, so I guess it’s going well!” Even though weddings are glamorous, the truth is, married life is pretty regular most of the time.

People who ask this question absolutely mean well, and usually simply want to hear that you’re happy (as well as show some interest in your life). But when putting a bride or groom on the spot in this way adds some extra pressure.

I mean, if they say, “It’s okay,” will you assume they’re miserable and gossip accordingly? If they say, “It’s amazing,” are you going to fake-puke and roll your eyes at their over-the-top happiness? And if they respond with, “Ugh, marriage is the worst” (Hopefully not, but you never know!), plan on backpedaling — fast.

3. “When are you having kids?”

PSA to everyone: stop asking anyone this question, ever. Why? Because it is too personal, and if your friend who just got married wants you to know their family planning schedule, he or she will tell you.

Don’t ask about fertility issues; don’t assume that a love of kids equals wanting to parent; don’t suggest they will change their minds someday.

Whether or not they want to have kids is none of your business, and there’s no reason why you specifically need that information.

Also, cut the newlyweds some slack. Literally the day after my sister’s wedding, several people asked when they were going to start having kids… rather than simply reflecting on, you know, the big party that just went down. It’s okay to enjoy where you’re at without moving to the next huge life event.

4. “Aren’t you a little young?”

Not only does this passive-aggressively suggest they, ahem, made an error in the timing of their marriage, it reinforces the myth of a “right” age to wed.

Yes, a lot of people nowadays get married in their mid-to-late twenties. But plenty of others get married in college, right after high school, at 40, in their sixties.

Age has no bearing on true love or a willingness to commit. Instead, be happy for them!

5. “Enjoy the honeymoon stage while it lasts.”

Aye aye, captain. Kidding, RUDE. Let’s all agree to stop subscribing to the narrative of “Marriage is the worst, say goodbye to your freedom and ability to have fun” story. I’m over it.

6. “FINALLY!”

At my friend A’s wedding, someone said, “It’s so great that you FINALLY met someone!” Ouch.

This statement doesn’t seem so bad, especially if your newlywed friend has gone through a string of bad relationships and you’re thrilled they have now found the love of their life.

However, it implies the person was waiting around doing nothing because their life was incomplete without a spouse, which is not true. Find a better way to express your joy for a newly married couple, such as, “Yay! I’m so happy for you.”

7. “Did you know 50% of marriages end in divorce?”

“Gee, thanks, fingers crossed!” Not only is this statistic controversial, but it’s just kinda rude to suggest a brand-new marriage won’t work out. There’s no reason to undermine someone’s decision to wed by indicating the research is against them. Remember, people get married with the best intentions, and you can’t always predict which relationships will or won’t work out.

8. “How’s the ol’ ball and chain?”

Marriage puns give me a headache. When an acquaintance once *jokingly* made a quip about me being the “ball and chain” after I got married, I snapped. And rightfully so.

This kind of talk is bullshit — and so is the old stereotype of guys who supposedly sit on the couch all night drinking beer and ignoring the household chores. Culturally, these sarcastic one-liners are “funny,” except they’re not.

Ideally, people get married because they love each other and want to build a life together. Hearing newlyweds talk accordingly is not an invitation to rain on their parade. Give them your best wishes, instead.

9. “I never see you anymore… ”

Okay, first, anyone who has planned a wedding knows how much time, energy, money, and did I say TIME it takes. It can easily become a part-time job of managing details. Second, your friend just got married.

Their life did change, and they’re going to need some space to shift from being engaged to married — which might be as simple as hanging out at home on the couch, or doing their own thing on the weekend, or booking dinner plans themselves instead of linking up with you and your spouse for a double date.

Don’t take it personally if you haven’t seen your newly married friend in a while post-wedding, and certainly don’t make them feel guilty about it.

10. “Are you bummed the wedding is over?”

When all the excitement of a wedding fades away, it’s normal to feel a little sad and wonder, “What now?” Change isn’t easy, and the post-wedding blues are real for many newlyweds.

At the same time, a wedding is just one day.

Rather than lingering on the fact that the event is over by asking someone this question, talk about what their wedding represents: the continuation of a wonderful life together.

As a newlywed, what did you love hearing from family and friends — and what did you hate?

Tell Your Spouse “Thank You”

Thank you for Married Life

Have you made it a point to say, “Thank you” to your spouse lately? We’re not just talking about saying thanks after he or she does something for you (although that’s important too). But lets ALSO remember to give thanks beyond those common courtesies. How about telling your spouse “thank you” for the person she or he is, not just what your spouse has done for you?

Here’s a marriage tip from the web site, “To Love, Honor, and Vacuum”:

“Instead of telling your husband you love him, tell him WHY you love him.”

Actively Practice Your Gratitude

We think that’s a great idea. It can be shared both ways. Why not sit down and write out a few of the reasons you most love about him or her? And then share them with your spouse. Actively practice gratitude.

Someone said, “Instead of focusing on what’s missing, learn to appreciate what’s already there.” We want to add, “and don’t forget to GIVE VOICE to that, which you appreciate.”

We’re told in the Song of Solomon, “This is my beloved; this is my friend.” Why not tell your friend (spouse) “thank you” for some of the things you appreciate about him or her?

The Thank You Challenge

The following is a challenge for you. Start out with this phrase, “Thank you for being you…” And then list several of the things you’re thankful for. Afterward, share your lists with each other.

Steve and I took this “challenge” last night. It was a very emotional time for us —in a great way. It endeared us to each other all the more. Someone else said, “It is not happy people who are thankful. It is thankful people who are happy.” (I’m sorry, but I really don’t know who gave that tip, but it’s true.) Steve and I are even happier than we were before we exchanged our “thank you’s.”

The Lord is pleased, no doubt, when we “encourage one another” as we’re told to do in the Bible. “A word aptly spoken is apples of gold in settings of silver.

” (Proverbs 25:11) Speak words to your spouse that express your appreciation of him or her. The things you say to your spouse can become as “apples of gold in settings of silver.

” They can make our spouse shine from the outside in, and then from the inside out. That’s a shine that brightens even cloudy days!

Give Thanks

So, during this time of Thanksgiving, why not say thanks to your spouse, as well? Thank God first, and above all, and then thank your spouse. And if you can, please tell us how it went by leaving your comment below. You might even share your thanks publicly on the web site.

And then invite your spouse to see it. It has been said that, “Giving accolades in front of an audience is giving care packages for the heart.” When you say something nice about your spouse to others, it sure can make them feel grateful that they have a spouse who brags on them.

Give your spouse a “care package” for the heart whenever you can.

That’s what we decided to do. On the tail end of this Marriage Insight, we’re including a few of the things we appreciate about each other. We’re hoping they will inspire you to do the same with your spouse. Also, we’ll be including a few links to related articles, as well. We pray they bless your heart, and also your marriage.

Make sure you “encourage one another” whenever you can. And may your marriage be blessed!

— ALSO —

The following are our (abbreviated) lists saying, “I love you for…” and “I thank you for…” (Some of it was too personal, but here are some of the main points:

Cindy (talking to Steve):

“Thank you Steve, for being you…”

  • I love you, and thank you for being such a kind-hearted man. You exhibit the love of God to me and everyone you are with, and I love that about you. You have helped me to believe that men can be good. (I had been hurt by many important men in my life. As a result, my view of men was tainted. But through our years together Steve has changed that.) You are faithful, kind, godly, loving, and I am blessed to have you for my husband.
  • You have shown me love that touches the depths of my heart. Thank you for all you have done to make me feel cherished. Most wives never get to feel that depth of love. I know I am GREATLY blessed.
  • Thank you for being such a good father. Our sons (and daughter in laws) are blessed to have you as their dad. And our grandchildren cherish you so much. Thank you for pouring your heart and life out to bless us in so many ways.
  • I love how you make people feel valued. You have such a God annointed love that comes through as you spend time with people. I love that about you and am so blessed to watch you genuinely bless others. Thank you for being you.
  • Thank you for making me laugh. We have so much fun in our marriage, and family life. I love you sense of humor, and the fact that you share it with me so much. Thank you.

Also:

  • You bring sunshine and “son” shine (the love of Christ exhibited) into our home. Without you, our home is just a house. Every room is brighter when you enter it. Thank you for being you.
  • Thank you for being my prayer partner. Knowing you pray for me and whenever you pray with me and over me, blesses my life. Thank you from the depths of my heart.
  • I love sharing life together. You are my best friend, my companion, and my hero in so many ways. Thank you for putting up with my quirkiness, and for loving me despite them. I love you with all my heart!
  • Thank you for taking such good care of me. Thank you for the foot massages, and for filling my car with gas. I appreciate how you make sure I have ice water to drink and so very much more.
  • Thank you for being my marital partner, and my ministry partner. Oh, how I love ministering together —especially through Marriage Missions. You are an amazing man, and I am indeed blessed to be your wife.

Steve (talking to Cindy):

“Thank you Cindy, for being you…”

  • I thank you for your commitment to God. I know it has given you a steadfast love for me for more than 47 years. You have been the most wonderful “helpmate” I could ever imagine having the privilege of being married to.
  • You have challenged me to excel in everything in life. I thank you for that. Because you don’t settle for mediocrity for yourself, nor in me it has made me a better, more godly husband because of it.
  • Thank you for being my best friend “for life.” I couldn’t even begin to imagine going through life without you by my side.
  • I thank you for your unswerving dedication to our life mission and work. I know there would be no Marriage Missions without your passion. If it wasn’t for you people would have missed the blessing of this ministry in their lives.
  • I love you SO much for your steadfast love for me. I know without that there is no way you could have put up with my 42 years of being a Type-1 diabetic…and all of the “stuff” it brought into our marriage.

Saying Thank You After Your Wedding

Thank you for Married Life

From a young age, it’s been embedded in our minds to say please and thank you. It’s a simple matter of good manners, and the latter becomes hugely important in something as extravagant as your wedding day.

Throughout the months you’ve spent planning your wedding, you’ve ly been in contact with dozens of friends, family members and vendors – all of whom have provided their help or support in one way or another.

Then there’s the guests who actually attended your wedding, supporting you and celebrating your joy on the happiest day of your life. They probably gave you a substantial gift in honor of your big day, too.

How do you handle thanking all of these people who have been involved with your wedding in one way or another? Sending out so many thank you notes may seem a daunting task, so it’s easy to want to send out generic messages. But remember: a personal touch shows you truly care and appreciate these people. Here’s how to say thank you after your wedding.

Prepare beforehand

Staying organized throughout the wedding planning process will save you loads of stress and headaches.

One great example of this is with your thank you cards – if you keep a spreadsheet or document of all your guests and their contact information, you can easily access this information when you’re ready to send out thank you notes.

When you gather all this information for your wedding invitations, keep it handy for when you’re writing your thank yous. As you open gifts from the bridal shower, bachelorette party and wedding, make a note of who got you each gift. This will expedite the thank you process immensely.

Thank you card ideas

The standard wedding thank you note is a handwritten message inside a nice card or piece of stationary. One popular trend is to make cards your favorite wedding photo or a special photo you took on your wedding day just for the purpose of the thank you card.

You can also purchase fancy stationary and have it monogrammed with your new initials as a way to embrace your newly-married status.

Whichever route you choose, make sure you write out each individual note with a unique message with a nice pen that will make your words stand out.

For those who were more involved in your wedding, such as bridesmaids, groomsmen, your maid of honor, your best man and your parents, you’ll want to thank them properly with an appropriate gift or gesture.

You and your partner know your wedding party the best, so choosing a gift for each member of the party will be a fun activity where you’ll get to exercise your creativity.

Travel bags, bottles of wine, cufflinks and jewelry are all great gift ideas to start.

How to write a heartfelt thank you

The most important thing when it comes to writing a thank you card is being genuine and sincere. You want to include heartfelt, emotional comments and express your gratitude for their support or gift when choosing the wording of a thank you card.

Regardless of what you are thanking them for, make sure that your words are gracious and personal. Make sure to always include the name of the gift, how much you appreciate it and how you plan to use it.

If you received cash, never mention the dollar amount that was given; rather, mention that you are grateful for their generous monetary gift and how you might use it. Here are a couple examples of thank you card wording:

Dear Aunt Sally,

Thank you so much for the blender! John and I have been wanting one and are so excited to start using it and try out new recipes. We’re so happy that you were able to come to our wedding and hope to see you soon.

Love,
Jane

Dear Uncle Bob,

Thank you so much for your generous gift. John and I have been saving up and thanks to your thoughtful gift, we’ll be able to shop for our dream home soon. Thank you for sharing our special day with us and looking forward to seeing you over the holidays!

Love,
Jane

Wedding thank you etiquette

Now that you know how to write your thank you notes, you’ll be able to take care of them as needed. It’s proper etiquette to send out thank-yous within 2 to 3 weeks after the engagement party and the bridal shower.

Even if an attendee didn’t bring a gift, you should still send out a brief thank you message thanking them for coming and their love and support. For any gifts that you receive before the actual wedding day, you should send out thank yous as soon as possible when you receive them.

If you’re totally swamped with other wedding planning tasks, just make sure that those thank you notes go out before the wedding takes place.

Wedding gifts that you receive at the wedding should receive thank you cards within 3 months after the big day. This should be plenty of time for you and your spouse to respond to each gift individually.

If you receive any additional gifts after the wedding has already taken place, proper etiquette is to send out thank yous within 2 to 3 weeks of receipt.

Remember that although sending out all of these thank you cards seems daunting, you and your spouse can split up the responsibility to alleviate some of the pressure.

If you fall behind schedule, feel free to mention the time that’s passed in your message rather than pretending you’ve just received the gift. For example, you can say something “Apologies for the tardiness of our card! We are settling into married life and are really enjoying the blender you gave us.”

Thank you cards are a must for all attendees of your wedding, but they aren’t a requirement for your vendors. If you feel that any of your wedding vendors provided exceptional service, feel free to send them a thank you card. They’ll certainly appreciate it.

When it comes to your wedding thank yous, make sure you prepare yourself for this task beforehand by keeping an organized list of your guests and their contact information.

Being organized will expedite the process significantly when it comes time to write out each individual message. Including a personal and appreciative note will show your guests that you truly care and are grateful for their gifts, love and support.

And remember – you’re both capable of writing thank you notes so be sure to split the work fairly.
