Prayers for Healing of Addiction

Prayers For Healing Loneliness

Dear Ones,

We have received many healing prayer requests to help heal addictions. I am so grateful to all of you in the Ananda Healing Prayer Circle for your dedication in praying for those in need.

I offer this article as a sample of the writing I am doing for an upcoming book on healing and prayer. It may offer insights to you as you prayer for those who have this difficulty. I’d love to hear your insights into these prayers, as well, in the comments area.

And since this will be my only newsletter in November, I wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving!

Blessings,

Ananda Healing Prayer Ministry

Healing of Alcoholism and Drug Use

Prayer can be of great help to people who are struggling with addictions, and it often creates a turning point in helping the addict recognize that there is a problem that needs to be addressed. Prayers for the healing of addictions, such as to alcohol or to prescribed pain medications, are answered quickly the majority of the time.

Many years ago a woman and her grown daughter visited the Expanding Light and attended a healing prayer class. The mother asked for prayers for her ex-husband, the father of the young woman, for healing of alcoholism. His problem had persisted for over 25 years and was the main reason for the divorce.

Two weeks later we received an update that the man had checked himself into a treatment center, having finally admitted to himself and his family that he had a drinking problem.

What is astonishing about this story is that the man was clearly loved, but even the breakup of his family hadn’t triggered a firm resolve to overcome his alcoholism, but somehow the prayers for him had finally broken through that barrier.

If you are trying to help a person to overcome alcohol or other addiction, I would recommend a multi-faceted approach. Have some members of the family commit to saying the Divine Mother healing prayer for the person every day. They should keep this up for at least a year, for it will help the patient to develop positive qualities necessary to sustain this new direction.

  • Divine Mother Healing Prayer Technique:
  • Divine Mother, Thou art Omnipresent. Thou art in all Thy children, Thou are in _________________Manufest Thy healing presence in his/her body, mind, and soul. Then rub the hands together briskly to generate energy. Then hold up the hands and send the energy while chanting AUM three times.
  • Video of this prayer technique:

If the patient is openly ready to be healed, teach him to say this affirmation by Paramhansa Yogananda.

  • A Daily Healing Affirmation by Paramhansa Yogananda:
  • Focus deeply at the spiritual eye, the point of spiritual will, and say three times:  I will with my own will, which flows from the Divine will, to be healthy to be well, to be prosperous and spiritual, to be well, to be well.
  • Video of this affirmation:

Some patients have been helped by the book, Seven Weeks to Sobriety: The Proven Program to Fight Alcoholism through Nutrition by Joan Mathews Larson.  (You can learn more about her story at joanmathewslarson.com). People can overcome alcohol addiction without this book, but it may greatly enhance their chances for success.

Harder Drugs: A Deeper Darkness

Harder drugs, such as heroin and meth, also respond to prayer, but it takes a sustained and persistent effort. The spiritual darkness around the harder drugs is more profound, and thus it takes a continued dose of light to effect the change.

Once a person is on hard drugs, there is already a history of making negative lifestyle choices. Their whole social structure may revolve around the drugs, and thus it takes something dramatic to get the person’s attention.

The patient needs to be receptive, and sometimes this only comes once the person is sitting in a jail cell.

Pray for healing in body, mind, and soul

When praying for a person addicted to harder drugs, ask not only for healing of the addiction, but also for their spiritual awakening. A complete transformation is needed. This seems especially important to overcome meth addiction because 93% of those in treatment centers relapse. It takes a miracle of healing grace to overcome meth addiction.

The few cases that I do know of people who overcame meth addiction straightened out their lives by turning to God. They straightened out and had a complete change of lifestyle both inwardly and outwardly. Pray for this level of transformation for anyone facing addiction to harder drugs.

Several times I have counseled parents to bring in a small picture of Jesus or Yogananda to their teenager who was in jail facing charges for hard drugs. I told the parents to hand the picture to their teen and give them very simple instructions on how to pray for help. It can be a very simple, yet transformative, prayer from the heart, such as, Please help me to change.

It has to start there. The addict is often ready for such things once they are terrified about the way their life is headed.  Some of these kids who were on meth ended up turning toward a conservative form of Christianity because they needed that much spiritual structure to stay off the drugs. This has worked well when the minister was knowledgeable on how to help addicts.

Letter of Light

Sometimes something relatively simple can have a profound effect on a person if it comes when they are receptive to healing grace.

One day a woman in the Ananda community asked me what she could do for her brother who had a serious problem with alcohol. She believed that he wanted to change, but said he felt powerless in the face of it.

She wanted to offer him something inspirational to read, but she told me that he was not interested in spiritual books.

I suggested that she send him the book, Do It Now, by Swami Kriyananda, which is now  republished as Living Wisely, Living Well, Timeless Wisdom to Enrich Every Day, by Swami Kriyananda.

It is a wonderful “thought for the day” book, full of uplifting advice. I thought the short passages would be helpful for her brother. It wasn’t an overtly spiritual book, rather it advises the person on how to be the best version of yourself.

We also prayed for him to be receptive to positive changes in his life.

Several months later I took seclusion in a mountain cabin near the Sierra Buttes. I loved that the cabin had no telephone. I used the time to read spiritual books, meditate deeply and take walks in the forest.

One morning early I was awakened by a vivid dream in which I received a thank you note written in shining gold script, saying, “Thank you for helping me to overcome alcoholism, with the book, Do It Now.

One can tell the nature of a dream by the quality of the light in it.

The gold letters were radiant, so I knew it was a true, spiritual dream, but I didn’t write that book! How did God get the wrong address for that divine thank you note? Finally, after coming more fully awake, I recalled that I had suggested the book earlier to my friend for her brother.

I realized the thank you was not for writing the book, but for inspiring his sister to give him a copy of it. The man’s heart and soul must have sent forth a feeling of gratitude, and I received it in my dream.

I’d love to hear your  inspirations and related experiences in the comments below.

Blessings to you,

Mary

Cure Loneliness and Be Happier

Prayers For Healing Loneliness

There are simple and effective ways to cure loneliness, yet loneliness remains a serious problem in today’s world. People are often afraid to seek new friends or don’t know if they can trust strangers. They may not know where to go to find a good friend, or where to turn in time of need. And some individuals may be surrounded by people, yet . . .

they still feel lonely and unfulfilled. It may be a struggle to stop feeling lonely in the midst of a crowd.

Lonely in a crowd? Lonely inside your marriage? Loneliness can be so discouraging, but there is hope.

A Good First Step

A good place to start in your journey to cure loneliness is to understand the reasons for your loneliness and to become fully aware of how loneliness is affecting your life.

Defense mechanisms may prevent people from recognizing just how lonely they feel. And they may be compensating for loneliness in various ways, such as working, drinking, or partying too much, perhaps in an effort to push aside empty or sad feelings.

Or some people may hang out with the wrong friends to deal with their loneliness . . . friends who may be a bad influence, and actually make them lonelier.

Sometimes people deny their loneliness or try to ignore chronic lonely feelings and despair. Also, some folks who have been lonely for a long time feel their loneliness is part of who they are, or may be incurable. Thus, they never really try to cure loneliness.

No matter what your situation may be, here's the good news: you can cure loneliness or make it better with a little consistent effort. No, it’s not as hard to do as you may think. Simply take the right action to create a shift in your thinking. That's how to find happiness, too.

Of course, if a person’s loneliness has led to a depressive condition . . .

. . . he or she may have a hard time trying to break through the barrier of discouragement to explore possible solutions and anecdotes. But it can be done!

In fact, lonely people often battle depression and anxiety, as well.

Get a leg up on loneliness by adopting a fresh perspective

Cure Loneliness Tips that Work

1.Figure out where you can find a few good friends — new friends. Visiting your local watering hole, lounge or bar may not be the best choice. So where can you go?

Reading your local newspaper may be a good place to start, and reveal a different perspective on connecting with others. Even in small town papers, you’ll find articles on community events, and the activities of groups and organizations. If one interests you, make some phone calls and look into it.

For Example

Let’s say you love gardening. And you read an article about the local chapter of a gardening club and what they are doing in your area. Call a contact person or representative and ask how you can become involved with the group. Go to their next meeting and meet some people. Go to the meetings and participate in a project.

You’ll meet some mighty fine people, have fun doing work you love and learn more about gardening; plus, you’ll be able to share your gardening wisdom with others . . . all of which will make you feel LESS lonely.

If you're struggling with loneliness, I recommend a powerful, one-of-a-kind email course you can take to overcome lonely feelings and get help with anxiety and depression.

I developed the Cure Loneliness Course drawing upon my nearly four decades of experience as a psychotherapist and professional helper, and have included the most effective strategies and techniques for stopping loneliness and leading a happy life.

It can give you a fresh perspective that can lead to big changes in your life.

2.Think about ways you can be of service to others in need. By finding a way to help others, your own emotional needs will often be met, and it will help you to cure loneliness in a big way.

When we give of the heart we receive of the heart.

The act of doing a good deed pushes out lonely feelings and opens the door to feeling more connected with others, and engenders a sense of belonging and attachment.

In touching someone’s life, our loneliness dissipates. And our service opens new doors of opportunity and connection.

Do a “random act of kindness” and bake a dozen cookies for your sick neighbor, or offer to take them to town. Find someone in need and be there for them.

You'll feel much less lonely by doing good deeds and putting smiles on face.

3. Another way to cure loneliness is to search the internet for organizations doing good work in your community, or groups devoted to a hobby or interest of yours, get info and go to a meeting.

Get involved in one or two. Offer your expertise or time. You’ll meet lots of good people who are trying to make a difference in the world. And just one new friend may make a difference in your life . . .

and help you to cure loneliness!

For example, Starbucks sponsors a volunteer matching program:

www.starbucksvolunteermatch.org

You can make a difference in the lives other by giving of your time, and it will help you to feel more connected, more important and fill you with good, old-fashioned goosebumps.

Teach a class at the local adult education center. Your students and colleagues will form relationships with you. You'll be chipping away at that stubborn loneliness in no time.

4. One of my favorite ways to cure loneliness (one I heartily recommend to my clients) is to go within and consult the wisdom of your body.

You probably have good ideas locked within yourself, just waiting to be uncovered.

Perhaps they have been trying to come to your attention through dreams, or day dreams, but you haven’t noticed or you’ve been too busy to follow up on your good ideas.

Sit in the silence and wait for ideas or inspiration to emerge, leading you in the right direction.

Contacting inner resources and accessing the powers within will make you feel less lonely and give you a sense of belonging to something greater than yourself.

Just how do you find the treasure-trove of helpful information hidden within? It’s easier than you might think. Pay attention to your daydreams and fantasies, which can be useful ways of exploring logical opportunities for change. What ideas or notions bubble into awareness?

Tap into your dreams.

Think about how you can cure loneliness before you fall asleep, increasing the lihood you’ll dream about it. Write your dreams down as soon as you awaken. Analyze the symbols to unlock the wisdom of your dreams. Once you've planted the idea in your mind, forget about it and go to sleep.

Brainstorm. Think freely and openly! Brainstorm to find as many good ideas as you can. Select the best to explore further.

Don't forget to discover how our Cure Loneliness Course can help you to beat loneliness, improve your life and improve your relationship with yourself.

Meditation

You can do insight meditation, too, a powerful technique for plumbing the depths of your inner mind, and waiting for insight to pop up, not from logical thought but the intuitive part of your brain and body. Sitting in the silence, being at one with the universe or your Higher Power, is a wonderful way of centering yourself . . . and of finding peace in solitude.

Sitting in the silence puts you in touch with your inner resources and strengthens your connections to the universe within and without you. Somehow you never feel alone while meditating, but you feel a great sense of connection to all the world and everyone in it. Amazingly healing, restorative and curative.

Solitude

Some people are afraid of solitude, and avoid spending time alone. They are often prone to co-dependent or addictive relationships. But, spending time in solitude is one of the best ways to not be lonely . . . because solitude connects you to something far greater than yourself, and fills you with a sense of deep, soul-gratifying peace and harmony.

Listening to the silence is a spiritual act that does wonders for your brain, improves your mood and lifts your attitude. A way of attuning your inner being with the celestial.

You feel an inner peace, calm and bliss that decreases depression and anxiety, and helps you to cure loneliness.

Beautiful Music

If you listen to beautiful, relaxing music, while sitting quietly and meditating upon inspirational words or thoughts, you'll drift away to a special place within — a place where you never feel lonely, but fulfilled in a powerful, but gentle way. You can sit in the silence and court solitude often, and you'll marvel at how it recharges your batteries and makes you feel stronger.

I meditate with music that plays softly in the background, and advice my psychotherapy or coaching clients to do the same. It can help you to get into a calm state of mind, allowing you to enter a state of quiet bliss.

Build a Deeper Relationship with Yourself

Meditating and spending quality time alone, soaking up solitude, may seem scary at first, but it's one of the ways you can build a good relationship with yourself. You'll learn to enjoy spending time alone, especially when you need to get away from the madding crowd or the chaos in your life.

When you are one of your best friends, you can never truly be lonely because you will always have yourself. You can rely upon, confide in and be with yourself.

Read A Good Book

Every good book you read introduces you to new friends and ideas, and takes you on a journey of learning and transformation. Your never alone with a good book in your lap. Reading may be a solitary activity, but your brain lights up and fires away when you read, which makes you feel good.

Multiple areas of the brain work together a symphony orchestra making many connections when you read. Reading builds new connections and strengthens the neural pathways of your brain. Talk about stimulating! No wonder reading can be such fun, if you want to go on an adventure that can help you to feel less lonely and more CONNECTED.

Reading can help in your quest to cure loneliness.

5.Take a tip from the happiness literature. The recent research on happiness reveals the secrets of happy people and shows the way to cure the lonely, heavy-hearted blues. The research suggests that the happiest people are those who are outgoing and optimistic types who actively seek to connect with others.

So, why not go out and make good things happen, rather than waiting for good things to come to you?

Anyone can take a tip from the extroverts and develop an action plan to decrease their loneliness. Start with that first step. Make something good happen. Call or visit someone. Get information.

Be bold . . .

Remember to avoid sitting back and feeling defeated. Put a smile on your face and do something different to cure your loneliness.

6. Last but not least is my final suggestion for this article. Take in a decision making partner. Ask a good friend or trusted ally to help you to cure your loneliness.

Talk to your pastor, priest or rabbi, or other spiritual leader, speak to a professional counselor or coach, and take their suggestions seriously.

If you are religious or spiritually oriented, ask your Higher Power for help, and trust in your faith. The help you seek will come to you in one form or another.

Getting counseling and therapy from a licensed therapist may be one of the best ways to get help with loneliness, depression and anxiety. You'll learn more about yourself and get the support you need to make changes and make them stick. Especially if you suffer from an anxiety or depressive disorder.

It pays to shore up your relationships — the ticket to happiness, peace and love

9 Best Prayers for Addictions and Healing

Prayers For Healing Loneliness

Whether you are suffering from an addiction or seek some spiritual healing and deliverance from Christ, it is always best to devote some daily time to pray. Here is a look at some great prayers for addiction and healing that will surely life your spirits up.

Prayer #1

Dear Father,

Please meet me in my loneliness, help me to have the confidence to speak with someone about my addiction. I trust that you can lead me this prison, that you can heal my mind and body.

I long to be free, yet I still feel so trapped by my thoughts and fears. Cover me with your love and grace, until, with your help Lord, I can walk in freedom, break out and fully live again.

Amen.

Prayer #2

O Lord,

I trust that you understand me. You have carried me in the hardest times. Only you have seen each despairing moment and only you have walked beside me.

Now I ask that you, with your gentle, healing hands would lead me away from my drug addiction. Cover my mind and body as I face the withdrawal and fill my heart with songs of hope. Help me to see what you can already see.

Me, cleansed of all the upset and brokenness, free to live and love, restored and redeemed.

Amen.

Prayer #3

O blessed Lord, you ministered to all who came to you: Look with compassion upon all who through addiction have lost their health and freedom. Restore to them the assurance of your unfailing mercy; remove from them the fears that beset them; strengthen them in the work of their recovery; and to those who care for them,

give patient understanding and persevering love.

Amen.

Prayer #4

God grant me the serenity To accept the things I cannot change; Courage to change the things I can;

And wisdom to know the difference.

Living one day at a time; Enjoying one moment at a time; Accepting hardships as the pathway to peace; Taking, as He did, this sinful world As it is, not as I would have it; Trusting that He will make all things right If I surrender to His Will; So that I may be reasonably happy in this life And supremely happy with Him Forever and ever in the next.

Amen.

Prayer #5

Almighty God, I come before you today, please forgive me of every sin of drug addiction, sex addiction, e.t.c, that I have committed against my body and against you in the name of Jesus.

Prayer #6

It is written, “call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee and thou shall glorify me” Psalm 50:15. Father, deliver me from evil spirit of addiction to (name your addiction e.g. alcohol) that I have invited to my life in the name of Jesus.

Prayer #7

Righteous Father, please forgive us for not being there when we should have for that person who turned to drugs for comfort. Forgive us for judging and condemning those who are addicted. Forgive us for overlooking opportunities to show love and compassion to the hurting families who are suffering from the effects of addiction.

Forgive those who are addicted for turning to something unholy for help instead of turning to You. Forgive them for not responding to the voice of wisdom and making unhealthy choices in life. Forgive those of us who have at one time, knowingly or unknowingly, contributed to the cause of another’s addiction. Lord, forgive me for (list any sins that You have committed).

Holy Spirit, remind those who are addicted of all those they need to forgive and help them to be quick to forgive. As for me, Holy Spirit, bring to my remembrance those I need to forgive. (Take a moment and ask the Holy Spirit to show You names or faces of people that You may need to forgive. As He shows You, say aloud, “I forgive name of person(s).

” Now, trust the Lord to heal any wounds in Your soul caused by unforgiveness.)

Prayer #8

Dear God,

There are so many things to be addicted to in this world…so many enticing things that people cling to, even if that thing is destroying them.

I pray against addiction and claim freedom! I pray protection over each of our lives, over husbands, over our family and our friends! May Your power Lord rescue those who need an intervention, those too weak to resist the enemy. May Your power be sufficient and may people find hope amidst a dark world.

Please Lord, we cry out to You, break the chains of addiction, sexual addiction, alcohol addiction, drug addiction, lying, stealing, cheating, dishonoring, or idolizing! Holy Spirit rain down, cleanse us, and let your grace restore us in Jesus’ name AMEN!

Prayer #9

Dear God,

Help me. You know what I crave. You know my struggles. I call out to you. You have all the answers on how to be free. Cleanse my thoughts and cleanse my body. Renew my mind as I read your Word. Guide me through this valley to a place of victory. In Jesus’ name I pray,

Amen
