Prayer For Veterans Day

A Veterans Day Prayer: For Those Who Protect Our Nation

Prayer For Veterans Day

Freedom is powerful. It's a gift. A treasure.

The most significant, important gifts in life are always worth fighting for. And often, they come with a great price.  They are not free. Somewhere along the way, someone paid dearly for the liberties we enjoy so freely today. But sometimes, we forget.

It’s easy to take them for granted. We enjoy freedom, but most of us alive today, have always had it. We may not even be fully aware of just how many men and women have paid dearly for the gifts we enjoy today. The price was paid through many long years.

On the heels of a heated Presidential race, this is a day to unite, to remember and pray, to show our gratitude for so many who have fought on behalf of our country.

For all those who have protected our nation, for the men and women in uniform, together, we say “Thank You.”

There’s great power and strength in the loyalty of your service, because of these things:

  • There's power in unity and standing strong together.
  • There's power in fighting on behalf of our nation, and for those who cannot fight for themselves.
  • There's power in rising up in courage, pursuing victory for what is right.
  • There's power in knowing that God Himself fights on our behalf.
  • There's power in prayer and in the One who sets us truly free.

Thank you for reminding us that there’s incredible love and sacrifice displayed, when one is willing to stand strong, and fight for freedom.

This service of love and sacrifice on behalf of all people, points us directly to the greatest love of all, the very gift and sacrifice of Christ. Our Savior was willing to pay the ultimate price, so that we can live free.

Forever.

“Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!” 2 Cor. 9:15

Remembering today. And thankful that so many have been willing to pay a great price for our freedom. May God help us to live so bravely today…

11 Reminders of God’s Freedom and Protection:

For the Lord your God is the one who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.” Deut. 20:4

“If God is for us, who can be against us?” Rom. 8:31

A Prayer for Veterans: for the Men and Women in Uniform

Dear God,

We thank you for the freedom you have given to us, and for the price that was paid by Christ so that we could live free. We remember today. The cost of it all. The great sacrifice for freedom.

We thank you for the brave who have fought, and continue to fight, so courageously for our nation. We ask for your covering and blessing over them and their families. We pray that you would be gracious and encircle them with your peace. We pray for your great favor and goodness to be evident in their lives.

Please be with the men and women in uniform, who serve our communities and nation every single day.

We ask that you provide your protection, that you would be their guiding force who leads the way, and their rear guard who keeps them safe from behind.

We ask that you would draw them to yourself amidst the dangers they face in a dark world, for you are the Truth, you are the Way, you are the Light.

When the voice of hate rises up against them, we ask that you would silence it. When the plans of the enemy rise up to cause them to stumble, we ask that you would thwart it. When the forces of evil rise up to strike them down, we ask that you would stop it.

Lord, we know how powerful you are, all have heard of your Great Name, and we ask that you would indeed be the wind beneath their wings, the power behind their efforts, the heart behind their service, as they are on the front lines against evil in our world today.

Help them to walk wisely. To stay covered in your armor. Give them godly discernment. Make them constantly aware of what lurks close by. Help them to be men and women of prayer, realizing that this is where their greatest help comes from. Help them to stay united and strong, bold and resolute, determined and unwavering.

Lord bless all those who wear the uniform, who serve our cities, our nation, our people. Bless their families. Bless those they love. Give them your great favor, this day, and every day.

Thank you that in our nation today, we are free to worship. We are free to pray. We are free to read your Word.  We are free to speak.  We are free to share. For this, we are incredibly grateful. Yet, we understand how quickly these freedoms can be taken away. Give us an increased awareness of the spiritual battle we're in. Help us to stand strong in you and for your purposes.

Thank you that as believers, we can be assured, you never leave us, and you are with us always, in this life, and the next.

In the Powerful Name of Jesus,

Amen.

We honor you today Veterans, and all those who wear the uniform, as we pray…and give thanks…and remember.

The Lord bless you greatly for your service and sacrifice.

And may God bless America!

Veterans Day Poems: Respect and Admiration For Our Heroes

Prayer For Veterans Day

These Veterans Day poems honor our former military members in a deeply touching Veteran's Day tribute. Veteran's Day poetry should be a part of any event designed to appreciate our veterans.

Take A Moment To Thank A Veteran

When you see someone in a uniform,

Someone who serves us all,
Doing military duty,
Answering their country’s call,

Take a moment to thank them

For protecting what you hold dear;
Tell them you are proud of them;
Make it very clear.

Just tap them on the shoulder,

Give a smile, and say,
“Thanks for what you’re doing
To keep us safe in the USA!”

By Joanna Fuchs

This short Veterans Day poem in free verse addresses the inscrutable question: Why did veterans put themselves in harms way for bad conditions and low pay?

Why?

Why did you leave home and friends, comfort and safety,to experience pain and hardship,so I could be protected?

I don’t know; but thank you.

Why did you put yourself in danger, injury and death always a possibility,so I could be free?I don’t know; but thank you.

Thank you, veteran.
Thank you!

This Veterans Day poem site provides Veteran's Day poetry with a positive tone. This Veterans Day tribute is full of uplifting sentiment.

The Best on Earth:
A Veteran's Day TributeIf someone has done military service,They earn the title “veteran,” and more; They earn our deep respect and admiration; That they are special no one can ignore.

They sacrificed the comforts we enjoy; The list is long of all the things they gave. Our veterans are extraordinary people; They’re loyal, dedicated, true and brave. When terror and invasion were real threats,They showed us they could handle any storm.

We owe our freedoms and our very livesTo our veterans, who served in uniform. Our veterans should be celebrities; They’re exceptional; no other group compares. We’re grateful for the many things they’ve done; They’re always in our hearts and in our prayers.

We owe our veterans support and friendship;Let no one ever question what they’re worth. These men and women served us and our country,Our veterans–the very best on earth.

This short Veterans Day message is perfect for a card or program.

Veteran's Day poems are by far the most popular of all the patriotic poems, so I have written quite a bit of Veterans Day poetry, such as this Veteran's Day poem, which is a Veterans Day tribute.

The Noble and the Brave:
A Veteran's Day TributeWhen America had an urgent need,These brave ones raised a hand;No hesitation held them back; They were proud to take a stand.

They left their friends and family; They gave up normal life;To serve their country and their God,They plowed into the strife. They fought for freedom and for peaceOn strange and foreign shores; Some lost new friends; some lost their livesIn long and brutal wars.

Other veterans answered a callTo support the ones who fought;Their country had requirements forThe essential skills they brought. We salute every one of them,The noble and the brave,The ones still with us here today,And those who rest in a grave.

So here’s to our country’s heroes; They’re a cut above the rest;Let’s give the honor that is dueTo our country’s very best.

More Veterans Day Poems

In this Veterans Day poem, Joanna imagines what many U.S. Fascists may secretly feel about veterans.

Secret RespectThere’s not a Fascist in the USAWho doesn’t, in their true heart, sayI’m thankful for those who serve and fight,So I can peacefully sleep at night.

No partisan politics can keep awayThe gratitude I feel, but cannot sayTo veterans who kept America secured,With all the hardships they endured.

Away from family, friends and more,They knew what they were working for:Keeping freedom really freeFor the right, the middle, and even me.Veterans, you have my deep respect,Even if it isn’t politically correct.

Looking for a Veterans Day Song?

Beautiful images accompany this touching Veteran's Day version of of the All-American song, “God Bless the USA.”

Veterans Day poetry should appreciate the essential work our veterans did to keep us safe, as this Veterans Day poem does. It’s a Veterans Day message that says it all.

We Owe Them a LotOn Veterans Day we remember againOur men and women who served; We honor them now for what they did then:The liberties they preserved.

Let’s never forget their sacrifice,The hard, heavy work they have done; They did what was asked, crucial needs they fulfilled,With a telephone, pencil or gun. We’re happy and proud to honor them; They gave so much more than they got.

Our heroes, our veterans kept freedom safe; All of us owe them a lot.

Protecting Us

While we were home on our comfortable sofas,Munching and watching TV,Our veterans were fighting our battles,

In situations we'd certainly flee.

Whatever would keep us all safeIs what they were called to do,Rough duties of every kind
Protecting us: me and you.

So when you see Vets, please thank themFor their service and sacrifice.Be aware, and always remember

For us, they paid a price.

In addition to the Veterans Day poems here, let's find out some facts about the origin and history of Veterans Day: In 1919, President Woodrow Wilson proclaimed November 11 as Armistice Day to commemorate the end of World War I.

The end of the war happened at the 11th hour, of the 11th day, of the 11th month, so that's why November 11 was chosen.

Congress changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954. Veterans Day, a legal holiday in the U.S.

, honors all who have served in the nation’s armed forces, whether they are living or dead.

Veterans Day Prayers

Veterans Day poems can be in free verse (not rhyming). Many people are searching for prayers honoring veterans, so I wrote this free verse Veterans Day poem poem as a Veteran's Day prayer that asks God to bless our veterans.

Bless Them Abundantly:
A Veteran’s Day PrayerDear Lord,Today we honor our veterans, worthy men and womenwho gave their bestwhen they were called uponto serve and protect their country. We pray that you will bless them, Lord, for their unselfish servicein the continual struggleto preserve our freedoms, our safety, and our country’s heritage, for all of us.
