Prayer For Travellers

Every now and then we realised during our trip how gifted we are to travel safe and protected.

Especially today, when we hear the news about hurricane „Sandy“ rushing towards the east coast of America, where we have been travelling just a few weeks ago, we are thankful about having come home safe again.

Some of the hosts and friends we have seen are now in danger. Especially the SERVAS hosts in Brooklyn are in the evacuation zone.

So we want to share the different prayers we found on a leaflet at the beginning of our trip in the St. John’s Anglican Church, Lunenburg NS / Canada with you!

Prayer for Flyers

Into the hands of others Almighty God, today I fly, and in doing so I give my care and well-being into the hands of others.

May I be generous and courteous as they serve me at check-in, through security screening, while boarding the aircraft, during the flight, on arrival, through passport control, collecting my bag and going through customs.

May I both see and offer love in every task, given in service and received with gratitude, through your love shown to me in Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen Anglican Airport Chaplain’s Prayers

A Roman Catholic Prayer for Travellers

O Almighty and merciful God, who has commissioned your angels to guide and protect us, may they be our companions from our setting out until our return.

Prayer of Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

Where there is hatred, let me sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; and where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master, grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen

Some Blessings

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord look upon you with favour and grant you peace. Amen.

May the Christ who walks on wounded feet, walk with you to the end of your road;May the Christ who serves with wounded hands, teach you to serve others;May the Christ who loves with a wounded heart, be your love forever;

When you go out, may you see the face of Jesus in everyone you meet; And may everyone you meet see the face of Jesus in you. Amen.

Prayer For Travellers

O God, Who did cause the children of Israel to traverse the Red Sea dry shod; Thou Who did point out by a star to the Magi the road that led them to Thee; grant us we beseech Thee, a prosperous journey and propitious weather; so that, under the guidance of Thy holy angels we may safely reach that journey’s end, and later the haven of eternal salvation. Hear, O Lord, the prayers of Thy servants. Bless their journeying. Thou Who art everywhere present, shower everywhere upon them the effects of Thy mercy; so that, insured by Thy protection against all dangers, they may return to offer Thee their thanksgiving. Through Christ our Lord.

Amen.

I often wondered if there’s a prayer suitable for setting off for a journey or adventure. As I am not English native speaker, I pray in my mother tongue, but people from all over the world travel for ages and it seems that our fears remain the same.

What you can find below is a compilation of a few prayers I found online. You can pray by saying one (or more) of them, or combine favorite parts of different prayers into your own, personal one, as I do. Everything is up to you

12 Prayer Spaces Around London | Travel Guides For Muslim Travellers

Prayer For Travellers

Being a travelling Muslim can be difficult when it comes to performing your solat and finding halal food to replenish yourselves. So in this post, I will try to introduce the prayer areas around London that I have personally been to or heard of.

Allah SWT commands us Muslims to perform prayer regardless of where we are and what we are doing at the time. Some people don’t have any difficulty in praying at open areas – basically performing their prayers anywhere that is clean to pray at. Personally, after so many incidents tarnishing the image of Islam and Muslims, I cannot muster up enough courage to pray in a public area. Thus, that lead me to try my best to find areas dedicated to Muslim prayers around London

Prayer of an airplane traveler

Prayer For Travellers

According to the religious traditions of Orthodoxy, every business is supposed to begin with prayer. Travel is no exception, and so many prayers were made for this occasion. The prayer of a traveling person can be addressed both to God himself and to various saints.

In this article, we will look at some typical examples of Orthodox prayer prayers designed for those who decided to embark on a journey.

Particular attention we will focus on prayers for air travel as one of the most popular modes of transport in demand these days, but at the same time one of the most dangerous.

The text of this prayer we will give in Russian translationfor better understanding. Church Slavonic variant, if you want to read it, you need to look in prayer books, which are offered in church benches. The prayer of a traveler on an airplane is addressed to Christ and it sounds this:

“Lord Jesus Christ, our God! Commanding the elements and in his hand, he concentrated power over everything! You are worshiped by the abyss and you rejoice in the stars, and the whole creation serves you. All of you obey and obey your will.

You can do everything, and therefore you show mercy to everyone, good Lord! So now, Vladyka, take care of me (name) and pray to my prayers, blessing my way and air travel. Ban the storms and nasty winds and keep the plane safe and sound.

Grant me an easy journey, not overshadowed by various troubles, through the air, bless the intentions of the good deeds that I have conceived to accomplish, and in the world make my return.

For you are a savior and deliverer, and all the goods of heaven and earth are the bearer, and to you I send glory with the Father and the Holy Spirit to the ages of ages. Amen!”

This prayer traveling through the air canread both before boarding the plane, and directly in the cabin of the ship. In addition, it is possible to adapt it in case you yourself do not fly anywhere, but want to pray for other people who will fly.

Prayer of a traveler behind the wheel

This prayer is for those who make their way at the wheel of a car. Read it is recommended immediately before leaving for the road.

“God is all-good and all-merciful! You guard all with your mercy because of your love for man. I with humility ask you through the intercessory prayers of the Virgin and all other saints, save me from accidental and unexpected death, and from any trouble of me, a sinner. Protect those who trust me and travel with me. Help me each of them to deliver unscathed to wherever he needs.

God is merciful! Rid me of the evil spirit of fidelity on the road, from the spirit of drunkenness, capable of causing a sudden demise that has no repentance. Save me, Lord! Help me to live to my old age with a clear conscience, not bearing the burden of responsibility for the dead and crippled by my negligence on the road people.

And let your holy name be glorified in this now and forever and ever. Amen!”

Brief prayers for those who are traveling to the Lord and the saints

The next prayer of the traveler is called a troparion, and in churches it is sung at prayer services dedicated to those who are going on the road or are already in it.

Troparion:

“You are the way and the truth, Christ! In the companions of your angel your servants now, as at the time of Tobiah, came down for preservation. And unharmed to your glory from all evil in well-being, observe, by the prayers of the Mother of God, a single philanthropist! “

The troparion follows kontakion, also a small church chant.

Kontakion:

“Luke and Cleopas to Emmaus accompanied,Savior, accompany and now your servants, to travel the desiring ones, from all sorts of saving their unpleasant circumstances. For all things are possible unto thee, if thy will be for it. “

Prayer to Christ

Another prayer of the traveler, addressed to Jesus Christ. This text is also considered the main one and is intended for reading in front of the road in general, without reference to the form of transport.

“Lord Jesus Christ, our God! You are the true way and the life! You accompanied your imaginary father Joseph and your most virgin mother to Egypt, and also accompanied Luke and Cleopas to Emmaus! And now I beseech you, Holy Vladyka, accompany you with your grace of servants on your journey.

And as Tobiah, your servant, sent down the guardian angel and mentor, so that he would save and deliver from various unpleasant circumstances and from all visible and invisible enemies.

And he instructed you in the fulfillment of your commandments, in the world of well-being and with good health, and returned to return the way in safety and serenity. You give us all good intentions and thoughts to please you and to fulfill your strength for your glory.

For from you is mercy and our salvation, and to you we send glory with the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit for ever and ever! Amen.”

Prayer to God before you go on a trip

This is another prayer option for those who are going on the road. Not such a popular option, as above, but nothing worse.

“The Lord preserving me! Before the road I'm going to, I want to entrust my life and health to you! Under your protection, I give my house and other property and all my relatives who remain here without me. I do not know what awaits me ahead, but I calm down, believing in your care, mercy and love.

Save my transport (car, airplane, ship, etc.) from breakdowns and accidents. Keep me in health, both physical and spiritual. In the most difficult moments of my journey give me peace and inner strength so that I can cope with any situation. Bless me to return to my home and do not leave me at every moment of my life.

Amen.”

Prayer to the Theotokos

In conclusion, we quote the prayer for the Mother of God. “The Prayer of the Traveling Mother of God” is a very common text, since it is addressed almost more often than to God Himself.

“Blessed mistress, the Virgin Mary, Godfor the sake of our birth, who gave birth and his grace, who received more than all other people, revealed a sea of divine gifts and a full-flowing river of miracles, shed goodness on all who come to you with faith! We stand before your image, we pray to you, the generous mother of a human-loving lord, that you should surprise us with your rich favors, and our requests that we bring to you, the quick-hearted one, you will soon fulfill, giving everyone that he is in favor, consolation and salvation will be useful. Come, O good one, to your servants with your grace and give travelers a speedy and safe journey, protection from enemies and a safe return! We thank you, glorifying the son you born, our Lord Jesus Christ for all eternity. Amen!”
