Our Savior has risen! This Easter day, the resurrection of Jesus reminds us that God makes all things new. He has given us the same resurrection power to live free from sin and death and to have a life fully ALIVE!

Easter is the celebration and remembrance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ on the third day after his crucifixion. You can read more about the meaning, origin and history of the holiday on our article What is Easter?

We hope that the below Easter prayers will bring you renewed hope and faith this Resurrection Day.

Resurrection Prayer

Dear God,
Thank you that you make all things new. Thank you for the victory and power in your Name. Thank you that you hold the keys over death, that by your might, Jesus was raised from the grave, paving the way for us to have new life with you. Thank you that you had plan, that you made a way.

We confess our need for you…fresh…new…again. We ask that you renew our hearts, minds, and lives, for the days ahead. We pray for your refreshing over us.

Keep your words of truth planted firm within us, help us to keep focused on what is pure and right, give us the power to be obedient to your word.

And when the enemy reminds us where we have been, hissing his lies and attacks our way, we trust that your voice speaks louder and stronger, reminding us we are safe with you and that your purposes and plans will not fail.

We ask that you will be our defense and rear guard, keeping our way clear, removing the obstacles, and covering the pitfalls. Lord, lead us on your level ground.

Shine your light in us, through us, over us. May we make a difference in this world, for your glory and purposes. Set you way before us. May all your plans succeed. We may reflect your peace and hope to a world that so desperately needs your presence and healing.

Thanks be to you God, for your indescribable gift! To you be glory and honor, on this Resurrection Day, and forever. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  • “I know that you are looking for Jesus,” – God, when my soul is searching, help me know the answer to every longing can be found in You.
  • “He has risen,” – God, the fact that Jesus is risen should lift my head, my heart and my attitude. Help me to live today as if I really believe this with every part of my life.
  • “just as he said,” – Jesus, You keep Your promises. Help me live as though I believe that with every part of me. Help me trust You more, obey You more and resemble You more.
  • “Come and see,” – Jesus, You had the angels invite the women in to see for themselves that You had risen. You invite me into these personal revelations every day. Forgive me for sometimes rushing about and forgetting to come and see for myself … You, Your Word, Your insights.
  • “Then go quickly and tell his disciples,” – Jesus, I don't want to be a secret keeper with my faith. I want to be a bold and gracious truth proclaimer. For You. With You. Because of You. Me, the unwanted girl whom You loved, redeemed and wanted.

In Jesus' Name, Amen.
– Lysa TerKeurst

Good Friday Prayer

Lord God, Jesus cried out to you on the cross, “Why have you forsaken me?” You seemed so far from his cry And from his distress. Those who stood at the foot of the cross Wondered where you were, As they saw Jesus mocked and shamed and killed.

Where were you then?

Lord God, We, too, ask where you are, When there is trouble and suffering and death, And we cry out to you for help. Be near to us, and save us

So that we may praise you for your deliverance.

Lord God, We wait, on Friday, for the resurrection of Sunday And sometimes our lives seem a succession of Fridays And we cannot see what is “Good.” Teach us to call your name As Jesus did. Make us to trust in you little children. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

– Rachel Marie Stone

Father, Thank You for the miracle of life – abundant life here, and eternal life with You in Heaven. Help me celebrate that life every day as I seek You and follow Your plan for my life. Today, I say with the Apostle Paul, “Where, O death is your victory? Where, O death is your sting?” In Jesus’ name, Amen.

– Mary Southerland

Lord Jesus Christ, I rejoice and rejoice continually in Your glorious and triumphant victory over death. For Your victory is my victory. Help me to live by it, in it, and for it. I am grateful to my depths – grateful forever. Amen.
– Selwyn Hughes

Lord, death could not hold You. And because of You, the resurrection, we, too, can live. Thank You that the grave is only a journey into the presence of God. You have removed the sting of death and empowered this thing called life. Now I will live in Your presence forever. Amen.
– Rebecca Barlow Jordan

Dear Lord, may I realize afresh today what Your death and resurrection mean for me. Forgiveness … Freedom … and the ability to walk with You through this fallen world into eternity. May I always find my satisfaction in You and Your willingness to offer Yourself to me. In Jesus' Name, Amen.

Prayer for Lent

Heavenly Father,

Thank you for the gift of this season. Thank you for knowing our hearts and our need for rhythms in our lives, and for drawing us into a deeper communion with you throughout the coming 40 days.

Lord, it can be disheartening to read on Ash Wednesday that all come from dust, and to dust all return (Ecclesiastes 3:20), yet we know that there is more to our stories.

We know that you created man and woman from the dust at the very beginning of time (Genesis 2:7) and that you breathed life into them to transform them into living creatures.

We know that you are in the business of resurrection– your very Son went to the cross to show us that no death is final and that ultimate transformation comes through your gift of salvation. Though we were made from dust, and our bodies will return to dust again, we can live in eternal glory with you through the blood of your Son.

May we remember the gift of salvation in this season.

May these weeks leading up to the tragedy of Good Friday and the glory of Resurrection Sunday remind us of who you are, how you love us, and who you have created us to be as your followers… Read more of our Prayer for Lent

When is Easter?

The early Christians began remembering the Resurrection every Sunday following its occurrence. In A.D. 325, the Council of Nicaea set aside a special day just to celebrate the Resurrection.

The problem with an official day was deciding whether the Resurrection should be celebrated on a weekday or always on a Sunday.

8 Prayers to Pray Each Day of Holy Week

Prayer For The Easter Holiday

  • Rachel Marie Stone
  • 2016Mar 18

I’m embarrassed to admit it, but this year I’ve been thinking of Holy Week less in terms of the passion of Jesus Christ and more in terms of “spring break.”

It’s not that I’ve got any spectacular vacation plans. It’s just that my children and I will be off from school (I’m a teacher), the days will grow longer and warmer, and the bulbs I planted in the garden last year will poke their green leaves the earth and blossom to the sun.

So I’m approaching Holy Week feeling unprepared, and not just because I have no idea what I’m going to make for Easter dinner. I’ve spent more Sundays in Lent at home sick – or home with sick children – than I’ve been in church. I’m soul-weary after months of winter and darkness and stress.

But perhaps this isn’t such a bad way to enter Holy Week – tired and unprepared, hungry for a new beginning, eager for the light to shine in the darkness. Even if, me, you feel you haven’t quite lived into the penitential season of Lent, it’s not too late to begin walking toward resurrection morning.

Here are eight prayers to take you – and me – through Holy Week. There’s one for each day, beginning with Palm Sunday, and each of them is one of traditional Scripture readings given to that day in church lectionaries.

Palm Sunday Prayer

Matthew 21:1-11; Psa 118:1-2; Psa 118:19-29

Lord God,I give you thanks, for you are good, and your mercy is endless. Here I stand, at the start of this holy week,This week in which your church remembers Jesus’ passion and death,And I am distracted by many things.Turn my eyes now to the One who comes in your nameThe one who opens the gates of righteousnessThe one who answers when we call.

I bless you, Lord, for shining your light upon me,And for sending your son to us, in human frailty. To walk the road we walk.Open my eyes that I may see him coming,And may praise him with a pure heart. And may walk in the way of his suffering,And share also in his resurrection.

Through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God for ever and ever.

Amen.

Monday – Holy Week Prayer

Matthew 21:10-17; John 12:1-8

Lord God,Six days before his death, your son sat with Lazarus,Whom he had raised from the dead,And ate dinner with his friends.Once again, your gospel tells us, Martha served,And Mary knelt at Jesus’ feetTo anoint them with costly perfume. The disciple who was about to betray himSaid that it was a waste.

He didn’t care about the poor, really –He just wanted to fill his own pocketsAnd make Mary feel ashamed.Lord God,Often we cannot discern what is best:When to pour out costly perfume for your sake,Even if the world thinks it a waste. When to be busy serving,Or when to rest at your Son’s feet and learn.Give us ears to hear you and eyes to see.

For the sake of your Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen.

Tuesday – Holy Week Prayer

Matthew 26:36-46; Hebrews 5:7-9

Lord God,The message of the cross is difficult to take. How can death give way to life? How can weakness be strength?Yet your word says that Jesus, being God,Took on human fleshAnd suffered the worst kind of death. How can this be?This message is indeed difficult to take.

But your foolishness is wiser than our wisdom.Your weakness is greater than our strength.Help us to know that none of us can boast before you.It is only in Christ Jesus that we can boast. In his name, we ask you to help our unbelief. That we may love you, and walk in the way Jesus taught us.

In his name,

Amen.

Wednesday – Holy Week Prayer

Matthew 26:27-56; 1 Corinthians 1:18

Lord God,We tremble to thinkThat it was one of Jesus’ own friends who betrayed him.One who sat by him, who broke bread with him.

Give us strength, we pray,To walk faithfully with Jesus,Even when the road we walk is rockyEven when the message of the cross seems foolishnessAnd even when we feel betrayed. You, Lord, are always faithful. We stumble, we become lost,But you are steady and sure.

Give us the grace to endure our troubles,And reveal to us the glory of your kingdom,Through your son, Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit.

Amen.

John 13:1-17; John 13:34-35

Lord God,You sent your Son into the world,And before his hour had come,He washed his disciples’ feet. You had given all things into his hands. He had come from you, and was going to you,And what did he do?He knelt down on the floor,And washed his friends’ feet.He was their teacher and their Lord,Yet he washed their feet.

Lord God, help us learn from his example;Help us to do as he has done for us.The world will know we are his disciplesIf we love one another.Strengthen our hands and our wills for loveAnd for service.Keep before our eyes the image of your Son,Who, being God, became a Servant for our sake.

All glory be to him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,One God, now and forever.

Amen.

Friday (Good Friday) – Holy Week Prayer

John 18:1-40, John 19:1-42; Isaiah 52:13-15; Isaiah 53:1-12; Hebrews 10:16-25; Psa 22

Lord God,Jesus cried out to you on the cross,“Why have you forsaken me?”You seemed so far from his cryAnd from his distress. Those who stood at the foot of the crossWondered where you were,As they saw Jesus mocked and shamed and killed.

Where were you then?Lord God,We, too, ask where you are,When there is trouble and suffering and death,And we cry out to you for help.Be near to us, and save usSo that we may praise you for your deliverance.

Lord God,We wait, on Friday, for the resurrection of SundayAnd sometimes our lives seem a succession of FridaysAnd we cannot see what is “Good.”Teach us to call your nameAs Jesus did.Make us to trust in you little children. In Jesus’ name,

Amen.

Saturday (Holy Saturday) – Holy Week Prayer

Matthew 17:1-6; Lamentations 3:1-9, Lamentations 3:19-24

Lord God,On the Sabbath,Jesus rested. He was in the grave. He had finished his work.To most people’s eyes,It looked as if it were all over.He was dead and buried.

But only as a seed dies when it is planted in the earth,Not to decay, but to spring to new life.

Teach us to take refuge in you when we are afraidTeach us that death is not our endTeach us to hope always in youAnd in the resurrection, the making of all thingsNew.Through Jesus Christ our Lord,

Amen.

Sunday – (Easter/Resurrection Sunday) – Holy Week Prayer

Matthew 28; Revelation 5:11-14; Psa 118:1-2; Psa 118:14-24

Lord God,You loved this world so much,That you gave your one and only Son,That we might be called your children too.Lord, help us to live in the gladness and graceOf Easter Sunday, everyday.

Let us have hearts of thankfulnessFor your sacrifice.Let us have eyes that look uponYour grace and rejoice in our salvation.Help us to walk in that mighty graceAnd tell your good news to the world.

What prayers need to read on Holy Easter for health and good luck

As already mentioned above, apart from ecclesiastical andspecial Easter prayers, on Holy Easter you can and should read prayers for health and good luck.

It is believed that on such a great holiday as the Resurrection of the Lord, the heavens are opened and all the words addressed to Christ must be fulfilled.

What prayers do you need to read on Holy Easter for good health and good luck? For these purposes, prayers, spoken in their own words and with a pure heart, are quite suitable.

The main condition – in prayer you need to ask for health or luck not for yourself, but for a person who really needs it. For example, you can pray for a seriously ill relative or a sick child. If you are unsure that you can independently make a prayer for health or luck, then you can use the universal options from our next selection.

Lord, help, Lord, bless the bright Easter,

Clean days, joyful tears.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

John the Baptist, John the Evangelist, John the Baptist,

John the long-suffering, John the headless,

Prayer and conspiracies for the girls at Easter 2017 about marriage

It is believed that the greatest strength for Easter isconspiracies and prayers for marriage, the texts of which are read by young girls. Find your true love, create a happy strong family and find inner harmony – that's what unmarried girls ask for in Easter prayers. Our ancestors never missed the opportunity to ask for an early marriage on these holidays.

And many did not confine themselves to prayers alone, and necessarily used special conspiracies. For example, during the Easter service, some girls held a handful of grains near the heart. Upon arriving home near the threshold, they scattered the grain and sentenced: “How many in the church there were from the candles of the lights, so many to me the suitors.

How many in a handful of grains, so much for me and suitors. Key. Castle. Language. Amen.”. Another version of the conspiracy to marry Pascha was held by girls who could not marry for a long time. He was involved in the sacrifice of a beggar and a needy towel, which the girl wiped her face on Pure Thursday. The towel was given a must, along with krasanki and Easter cakes.

More prayers and conspiracies for the girls at Easter 2017 about marriage further.

Texts of prayers and conspiracies for marriage for Easter for girls

The Easter sun, roll across the sky,

And you, the bridegroom, come to my door at my doorstep.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Christ is risen, but to me is the bridegroom.

Amen.

I'm confusing the way to the grooms.

How much in the hand is my poppy seed,

So that it was full in my house

Svatov and the rightful suitors.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Now and ever and forever and ever. Amen.

Lady of the Water. God created you the third day.

You are washing people for centuries.

You washed, washed, freed from filth and filth.

Sacred and sinful soap you,

Washed Jesus Christ and his mother Mary –

The Most Holy Theotokos.

I call on the name of that water the Mother of God,

I glorify the intercessor.

Mother of God, Most Holy Theotokos,

For the sake of that water,

Which washed the mother who gave birth to you, For the sake of that water,

In which You bathed Jesus as a baby.

For the sake of that water which God created,

Cover me with a marriage,

For God himself created a couple for everyone.

I pray thee, Mary, send me the groom for husbands

From now on and for the whole century.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Plots for Easter on health and luck, texts

Traditional are the conspiracies for Holy Easteron health and luck, the texts of which we have collected for you further. As in the case of conspiracies for marriage, many of the texts for attracting luck and health are accompanied by certain actions.

For example, to get rid of chronic pain in a certain area of the body, you can take the Easter egg, consecrated in the church. During the reading of the conspiracy, this egg must be rolled in a sore spot. Many plots for the Holy Easter, read on health and luck, are accompanied by the use of holy water.

For example, holy water is washed after reading a special prayer or conspiracy on health. Also, holy water can sprinkle the corners of the house after reading the text for good luck.

Plots for luck that you can do at Easter

Egg of Easter, egg of light, egg of blessed,

All my troubles beat, all my failures are over,

Bring good news to me, bring me luck!

Until people paint eggs, until then the saints of our house will not forget. Key, lock, tongue. Amen. Amen. Amen.

Christ gave everything he had, and gave it to others.

I treat all these cakes to all, and I wish all my neighbors well.

So let all that I pay is returned to me a hundredfold.

Let luck in business with me come, protect me from troubles and failures.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. As a people to an honest, bright holiday rejoices, how the bells ring for matins, there let the money rejoice to me.

In my purse they have both a house and a shelter. As in the Passover, the poor are not allowed to die from hunger, as they are given charity, so you, Lord, give me, servant of God (name) prosperity in the house.

I can not kill my horse or foot. Amen.

Prayer and conspiracies for Easter – inalienable ritesthis bright Christian holiday. Reading the texts of prayers, believers not only take communion with the ancient Orthodox traditions, but they can also try to solve many problems.

For example, special prayers and conspiracies for marriage help young girls to find the happiness of family life. Also, those who believe in the Holy Pascha must read prayers for health, luck, prosperity. But the main prayer that precedes all the prayers is Troparion Christ is Risen, the text will be found above.

It is from this troparion, read three times, that we must begin any conversion to Jesus throughout the Easter week.

about the cross of Jesus.

The song follows the prayer.

Note:

The second Prayer for Easter is found down the page.

Father God,

The old rugged cross isn't old in My Heart.

The blood spilling out is still fresh in My Life.

The story of love is still stirring in My Mind.

The power of the message is still new every morning For Me.

Thank you, Lord.

Amen

Father God, the old rugged cross isn't old in My Heart!

There is an old hymn that tells the story of Easter….

The Old Rugged Cross

This hymn is by George Bennard.

On a hill far away stood an old rugged cross,
the emblem of suffering and shame;
and I love that old cross
where the dearest and best
for a world of lost sinners was slain.

Chorus:

So I’ll cherish the old rugged cross,
till my trophies at last I lay down;
I will cling to the old rugged cross,
and exchange it some day for a crown.

O that old rugged cross, so despised by the world,
has a wondrous attraction for me;
for the dear Lamb of God
left his glory above
to bear it to dark Calvary.

In that old rugged cross, stained with blood so divine
a wondrous beauty I see,
for 'twas on that old cross
Jesus suffered and died,
to pardon and sanctify me.

The Blood of Jesus

This second Prayer for Easter is two hymns
about the blood of Jesus.

The songs follow the prayer for Easter.

Lord of Everlasting Love and Everlasting Life,

I give you honor this day.

I ponder the blood of the sinless, spotless Lamb of God.

Blood with wonder – working power.

Blood that covers my sins.

Blood that cleanses me from all unrighteousness.

Blood that sets me free.

Blood that demonstrates everlasting love and gives me everlasting life.

I treasure my Savior and the blood he shed for me.

Amen

Two hymns:

“Nothing but the Blood of Jesus”

and

“There is Power in the Blood”

Nothing but the Blood of Jesus

song by Robert Lowry

What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Refrain:
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

There Is Power in the Blood

song by Lewis E. Jones

Would you be free from the burden of sin?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Would you o’er evil a victory win?
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Refrain:
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the blood of the Lamb;
There is pow’r, pow’r, wonder-working pow’r
In the precious blood of the Lamb.

Would you be free from your passion and pride?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Come for a cleansing to Calvary’s tide;
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Would you be whiter, much whiter than snow?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Sin-stains are lost in its life-giving flow;
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Would you do service for Jesus your King?
There’s pow’r in the blood, pow’r in the blood;
Would you live daily His praises to sing?
There’s wonderful pow’r in the blood.

Easter Prayer Page Scriptures

The Blood of Jesus

 Hebrews 10:19-22

God's Word Translation (GW)

“Brothers and sisters, because of the blood of Jesus we can now confidently go into the holy place. Jesus has opened a new and living way for us to go through the curtain. (The curtain is his own body.) We have a superior priest in charge of God’s house.

We have been sprinkled with his blood to free us from a guilty conscience, and our bodies have been washed with clean water. So we must continue to come to him with a sincere heart and strong faith. We must continue to hold firmly to our declaration of faith.

The one who made the promise is faithful.
