Usually, this addiction was developed in three stages:

  • Stage 1: Earnings that seem easy
  • Stage 2: you lose money and you try to win it with an unrealistic optimism

  • The problem is not only economic. The game can cause a relationship to break or lose important personal relationships.
  • The cause of playing is not from others. Some gambling addicts blame their partners for behaving that. Doing so is avoiding responsibility for your actions, including doing what is necessary to overcome the problem.
  • The problem with the game is not overcome by paying debts, but overcoming addictive behavior.

Symptoms of Gambling

Before going to explain tips to stop gambling we must know about the Symptoms of gambling. In gambling there are no obvious physical signs as if there are in addiction to drugs or alcohol.

In addition, gambling addicts often hide their addiction to others: they travel long distances to play and hide their close people.

You may have a problem with the game if:

  • You play even when you have no money: bet until you have lost all the money, later you want to recover it using money from cards or money borrowed.
  • Your family or friends worry about you: it’s because the game is affecting your life.
  • You want to hide it: bets in secret and lie about what you bet or what you win.
  • You lose control: you are not able to leave the play area when you lose.

Do you know what are the Marijuana Effects

1-Accept that you have problems with the game

The biggest step to take in the treatment of gambling is to accept that you have problems with gambling.

It takes courage and strength to do so, especially when you’ve lost a lot of money or relationships have been lost along the way.

However, it is a necessary step, and many people who have overcome this problem have had to give.

Overcoming the problem is not easy, although you can if you seek support and follow the treatment.

2-Make decisions and resists temptation

Before starting the game, the decision has been made to do so.

If you have the urge to bet, stop doing what you are doing and call someone or think about the consequences of your actions.

Do not pay attention to thoughts about the game and do something else immediately.

On the other hand, remember that the odds are against you. The normal thing is that you lose.

Do not see the game as an opportunity to get your economic problems.

Some ways to control the impulse are:

  • Postpone the game: Tell yourself that you will play 5, 15 or 60 minutes later, depending on the time you think you can control. As you wait, the urge to play can pass
  • Seek support: call family, friends or go to groups meeting with people with the same problem
  • Do something else: clean, go to the gym, watch a movie …
  • Avoid isolation: look for new ways to build personal relationships
  • Think about the consequences and how you will feel if you fall into temptation

3-Control your money

You cannot play without money: get rid of credit cards, save and do not borrow money.

Let other people take care of your money, let the bank make the automatic payments and limit the amount of cash you can take out.

4-Plan your time

If not times to play you will not.

Plan healthy leisure activities that have nothing to do with the game.

5-Avoid places related to the game

Minimize to the maximum the possibility of playing avoiding the places nearby or that remind you of the places where you play.

You can also tell the establishment that you have problems with the game and ask them to restrict your entry.

Also, block your entry to betting websites. In Google extensions you have extensions that do.

6-Look for other activities instead of the game

It is worth reflecting on the different ways in which you try to deal with stressful or irritating situations.

Stress, depression, loneliness or anxiety can trigger or worsen game.

To get rid of work or family life there are many other activities with which you can have fun.

Much healthier activities that will have positive consequences on your health are.

  • Spend time with friends
  • Find new hobbies
  • Exercise
  • Relaxation techniques
  • Read books

7-Practice cognitive-behavioral therapy

This therapy focuses on changing insurmountable thoughts and behaviors related to the game, such as rationalizations or limiting beliefs.

It also helps the gamblers to:

  • Combat the urges you have to play
  • Treat relational problems arising after addiction
  • Deal with financial or work problems

Visiting a psychologist does not mean that you are weak or that you cannot control your problems, but that you are intelligent and responsible enough to realize that you need help.

8-Keep the recovery

When you overcome addiction, you may fall back.

For this, it is fundamental that you establish certain healthy habits that replace the game:

How to stop gambling on your own

Prayer For Strength To Stop Gambling

Are you finding yourself asking, “Why do I gamble so much? And how can I stop?”  You are not alone.

Compulsive gambling and pathological gambling are growing problems in the United States. Casinos, lotteries, and the availability of bookies are easier, faster, and more widespread.  Internet gambling impact reaches far and wide.

The good news is that Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) based Professional Treatment and Self-Help models such as SMART Recovery
(Self-Management and Recovery Training) can be very helpful for gaining independence from addictions, including problem gambling.

Change your thinking, change your gambling problem

SMART Recovery is an abstinence based, self-reliance model founded on the idea that people generally feel and behave the way they think, with thinking being the one thing over which humans have most control.

Therefore, with determination and persistence, people can change the way they feel and behave by changing their thinking.

The mission of SMART Recovery is to assist individuals with their desire to gain independence from addictions in general through a change in their thinking about activities such as problem gambling, the common theme in addictive behavior being “irrational beliefs” (iBs).

What do addictions have in common?

I have facilitated SMART Recovery meetings attended by individuals desiring to gain independence from various problematic behaviors involving alcohol and other drugs, eating disorders and problem gambling.

Some people have expressed concern they could not relate to the other issues only to find, as the meeting progressed, there was indeed common ground, resulting in similar emotional distress.

Anxiety, depression, anger, guilt and shame are common “unhealthy emotions” experienced by people addicted to one or more substances and or activities.

How do you change your thinking about gambling?

The “ABCs” of REBT (rebt[dot]org) method of solving problems (listed below as part of SMART’s 4 Point Program) is used as an effective formula for enhancing emotions and changing behavior. SMART Recovery’s 4-Point Program® offers scientifically based tools and techniques to assist an individual with:

1. Enhancing motivation to abstain from offending substances and problematic behaviors

2. Coping with urges without acting on them

3. Solving problems in a reasonable way (using ABCs of REBT)

Don’t let your loved one suffer. 1-888-882-1456

4. Balancing immediate desires and long-term goals. (See SMART Recovery website)

One tool in particular that relates to addictive activities (offered in The SMART Recovery Handbook) is the Cost/Benefit Analysis (CBA) Worksheet.

The CBA can enhance an individual’s motivation to reduce problem behaviors by encouraging them to list the benefits of “Doing or Using;” the negative consequences of “Doing or Using;” the benefits of “NOT Doing or Using;” and the negative consequences of “NOT Doing or Using.”

One unique aspect of SMART Recovery is the individual is not “labeled” as an “Addict,” “Criminal,” or “Compulsive Gambler;” rather, it is the specific behavior that is identified with statements such as: The individual has committed a crime or gambles compulsively.

So in reality, SMART Recovery is an empowerment program, encouraging participants to rate and judge individual behaviors, characteristics and experiences rather than their whole “being and essence” while having a sense of self-worth …simply by the fact they exist.

This approach lessens the possibility of the self-fulfilling prophecy.

Studies that support this method

SMART Recovery’s potential effectiveness for assisting individuals to find relief from addictions including compulsive/pathological gambling is supported by research.

While attending the National Center for Responsible Gambling Conference, co-sponsored by Harvard Medical School’s Division on Addictions and the Gaming Industry, I was introduced to research clearly showing CBT to be an effective model for assisting individuals interested in reducing problem gambling.

Studies also show a correlation between alcohol, nicotine and other drugs, as well as gambling. Problematic gambling can also lead to more destructive actions such as criminal behavior (i.e., embezzlement) and, possibly, suicide.

If you have a problem with gambling or any other addiction, check out SMART Recovery, consider obtaining a SMART Recovery Handbook, attending a community group available in your area, or sit in on an Online SMART Recovery Group. Or contact SMART Recovery headquarters with questions, comments or to get assistance with starting a SMART Recovery Group.

Prayer for Strength and healing scriptures that will transform Your Life –

Prayer For Strength To Stop Gambling

A prayer is a powerful tool which any believer wields to have all things made possible: “Everything is possible for one who believes.

” be it for healing, winning or other miracles, the Bible provides various scriptures that anchor them.

These bible scriptures can be used in the time of trials or against temptations, sicknesses, pains, persecution, and others. Prayer is the master key that opens the door of impossibility.

When you need strength, God is able to give it to you in endless ways. He leads and directs even through the thorniest journey. In Psalm 18: 1, 32 David says, ‘I love you Lord, you are my strength (NLT), and God arms me with strength and makes my way perfect”.

When you trust in the power of words of Gog, all you have to do is to rely on his promises after you have done everything you can humanly do. Thank him for his promises and ask him for strengthen during your struggling journey.

Prayer for Strength for Mind Body and Spirit

As he was facing death, Jesus had his mind, body, and spirit struggling as any human would do. But he conquered by relying on his father. He did not count on himself; he prepared his mission by prayer and fasting.

Having fasted in the wilderness for forty days and nights; the devil troubled him but he prevailed, you too can.

In Ephesians 3: 16, “That he would grant you according to his riches in glory, to be strengthened with might by his spirit in the inner man”.

Prayer for Strength in a state of powerlessness

There will surely be situations beyond human comprehension and every attempt to calm the storm may just appear fruitless. However, the might of God’s word can never be shattered.

Psalm 27:1 provides this, “The Lord is my light and my salvation of who shall I fear; the Lord is the strength of my life, of whom shall I be afraid”. No matter the rage and persistence of the storm, he promises that his peace is ever certain.

All you have to do is to have faith in him and trust his promises.

Also, there is authority to silence any ungodly ruler as Isaiah 41:1 decree, “Keep silent before me O Island and let the people renew their strength. Let them come near, let them speak, let us come near together to judgment”.

Prayer for Strength for Family and Friends

The blessings of living a Christian life are not for the people who serve God alone but they extend to their families and friends as well.

Every believer stands in authority to be a priest in their family and protection for those they love. Their prayer for them is a great intercession.

Psalm 28:8-9 decrees, “The Lord is their strength and he is the saving strength of his anointed, save thy people and bless thine inheritance. Feed them also and lift them up forever”.

Prayer for Strength for Self-Image

Are you lacking in confidence and appreciation? Having an inferiority complex could be disastrous and struggling in your own mind may just be a wandering in the desert.

You could –`overcome through the word of God that encourages and strengthens your inner mind to see yourself more beautifully as you are wonderfully and fearfully created.

1 Peter 2:9 has this to tell you, “But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a peculiar people that ye should show forth the praises of him who has called you darkness into his marvelous light.

Needing healing scriptures, the bible provides numerously for every believer to be free from all diseases and ailments. Do you know what Isaiah 53:4-5 says?

“Surely, he had borne our grieves and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem stricken, smitten of God and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his stripes, we were healed” (KJV).

Every Christian life is a battle and God charges us to be ready to face persecution. The night is a time when principalities and powers of darkness try to wreck havoc in the life of many. It is a time to destroy every stronghold upon a man’s heavenly destiny.

This is not to say there is a certain time when prayers are best answered but Psalm 16:1, “Keep me safe o God for I has come to you for refuge'(NLT).

And in times of wanting to overcome deadly powers recurring either in dreams or in reality at night.” Also David says in Psalm 35:1-2 “O Lord opposes those who oppose me, fight those who fight against me.

Put on your armor and take up your shield, prepare for battle and come to my aid”.

Are you a new born in Christ and in need of direction on an effective prayer life. Apostle Paul, in Corinthians 14:15, teaches, “Well then, what shall I do? I will pray in the spirit and I will also pray in words I understand”. And do not forget our Lord’s Prayer in Mathew 6:9-15.

Twelve Ways to Stop Gambling Addiction Forever

Prayer For Strength To Stop Gambling

Gambling addiction is brutal and highly destructive. It can lead to dire consequences that run the gamut from bankruptcy, job loss, depression, anxiety, loss of friends and family, and even suicide. It is so important for the addict to stop gambling sooner rather than later.

This addiction does not discriminate. If the propensity is there, and the gambler crosses over that invisible line into problem gambling, addiction can occur in anyone’s life.

It does not matter whether the person is rich or poor, educated or uneducated.

An addiction this can send people to jail, cause major social and occupational problems, mental instability, and financial devastation that can last for years.

Studies show that problem gamblers are more ly to commit suicide than all other types of addicts combined.

It is important to get help as soon as possible. It isn’t easy to quit gambling, but there are ways you can help yourself before you get to the point of no return. Here are twelve strategies to use to stop gambling and reclaim your life!

Remember the feeling when you lose a lot of money at the casino, online, or through sports betting. Allow yourself to feel that despondency when you are having thoughts about gambling again.

When you wake up, make a decision that you will not gamble, just for this one day. If you have to do this an hour at a time, that is okay.

Some might have to work one minute at a time, which is fine too, as long as you promise yourself that you will not gamble, and you keep the promise. Schedule your day in a very structured way so you do not have a lot of free time.

Forbid yourself from entering a casino, downloading online gaming apps, or visiting gaming websites.

2. Find a Replacement Activity

Find something to replace your gambling. Exercise, go shopping, go out with friends, or do some cooking. You can also rent a movie, listen to some music, or do some reading — do whatever it takes to keep yourself busy. You could pick up a new, exciting hobby, bike racing or climbing or welding.

Your goal is to stop gambling, and it is not easy when you get such a high from it. Finding replacements, however, can help. Try and see how it goes.

3. Remember How Bad It Feels to Lose

Remember the feeling when you lose a lot of money at the casino, online, or through sports betting. Allow yourself to feel that despondency when you are having thoughts about gambling again.

You may find that you are less ly to go out and place a bet. I have done this before, and must admit that these feelings have stopped me from taking that ride to the casino.

This hasn't worked every time, but many times this tool has helped.

4. Educate Yourself About Gambling Addiction

Read as much as you can about gambling addiction. Educate yourself, especially about your particular type of gambling. Find out what type of gambler you are and whether you have a gambling problem and have crossed over this invisible line.

Are you an escape or an action gambler? Find out what some of your triggers are, as this can help a lot.

When you read about gambling addiction, especially the power that it can have on your psyche, you may think twice about going out and placing a bet.

The resources at the end of this article may be of some help to you.

5. Find Self-Help Materials

Seek help. Look for books or courses. Self-hypnosis for gambling problems can also be helpful. Consider joining an online gambling addiction forum.

Even if you do not join, reading other people's stories may help you realize that you are not alone. It is crucial that you realize that you are not the only person with this problem.

Many share your plight and are looking for answers and support from other gamblers.

Again, there are resources at the bottom of this article that may be of some help to you.

6. Find a Support Group

Attend a Gamblers Anonymous meeting for group support. If you do not want to do a 12-Step program, there is an online program called Smart Recovery. Having support from other gamblers who also want to quit is an important piece of your recovery. Just talking about gambling with other people who understand what you're going through can be really helpful.

7. Hand Over Control of Your Money

Ask a close family member to handle your money. If you do not have money on your person, you will be less apt to impulsively gamble money away. It will be hard, but it is an important step in your recovery. Also, do not allow yourself access to ATM or credit cards. Just keep a small amount of cash with you, so you cannot spend the money gambling.

8. List the Cons of Gambling and the Pros of Quitting

Make a list about how your gambling problem has affected your life in a negative way. Write as much as you can. Make the list on the left side of a sheet of paper so you have room on the right side. On the right side, write about how your life will change for the better when you stop gambling.

9. Make a Financial Plan

Talk to a debt counselor about your gambling debts. Ask for advice about how to relieve financial pressure and solve financial problems caused by your gambling.

The financial stress that you have from gambling addiction debts can drive you back to gambling if not addressed. Financial problems are the biggest consequence of gambling, and help is available.

Be sure to use a non-profit debt assistance agency, and not one that is for-profit.

10. Get a Good Counselor

See a counselor that specializes in addictions, especially gambling, and talk to this person about your problem. If your addiction is severe, you will need as much support as you can get to stop gambling now.

11. Get Help for Underlying Mood Disorders

Many people with a gambling problem also suffer from depression, anxiety, stress, or other substance abuse issues. These can both trigger compulsive gambling as well as make it worse.

12. Get in the Right Environment

Surround yourself with people that you trust who want to see you recover and avoid any kind of environment where you might be tempted to gamble, which could be anything from a casino, to being at home alone with your smartphone. Delete gambling apps from your phone and tell casinos that you have a problem and that you want them to block you from entering.

Some Final Thoughts

Gambling is a dangerous addictions because of the related risk of suicide. Find help now and make a plan to begin quitting. Take it one day, or hour, at a time and keep in mind how great you will feel when you have come clean and stopped gambling with your life.

There are many terms that are used to describe gambling problems, including “problem,” “at risk,” “compulsive,” “disordered,” and “pathological.”1

The American Psychiatric Association uses the term “gambling disorder,” in the 5th edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders to describe the most severe form of gambling problems. Keep in mind, however, that individual experiences with gambling can differ wildly from person to person.

According to the Manual, a gambling disorder is characterized by:

  • A preoccupation with gambling
  • The perceived inability to cut back or control one's gambling
  • Irritability or restlessness when one tries to cut back or stop gambling
  • Risking more money to reach the same levels of excitement as before
  • Gambling to escape problems or depression
  • “Chasing” gambling losses with more gambling to try to make up for them
  • Deceiving family and friends with regard to gambling habits
  • Risking or losing jobs or relationships because of gambling
  • Relying on others for the financial needs caused by gambling

If you're experiencing any or all of the above to any degree, it's ly that you don't have a normal relationship with gambling. You don't need to be completely control in order to have a problem with gambling.2 In fact, problem gambling is any kind of behavior that disrupts your life, regardless of how much you gamble or how much money is at stake.

Gambling addiction is frequently seen alongside other forms of psychiatric disorders, such as depression and anxiety.3 It is also seen frequently alongside other kinds of addictions.4

Just because you have a problem with gambling does not mean you are a weak-willed, irresponsible person. Strong-willed or responsible people are just as ly to develop a gambling disorder as anyone else.

The path to recovery differs for each individual, and there is no consensus in the scientific community regarding the best treatment for addiction.

Some people recover spontaneously, some do it alone or one-on-one with a therapist, others in group settings or a combination of the two.5 Half of all addictions end by age 30,6 but only 1 in 10 of the 23.

5 million teenagers addicted to alcohol and drugs seek treatment, and when they do, it's often in places that do not use evidence-based care.

This is just to say that addiction treatment is a complex issue. In your journey, don't be afraid to try many options for treatment, even ones that might seem contradictory. Relapse is ly, but so is regaining a life without addiction.

Some of the tools people have used include:

  • Cognitive behavioral therapy
  • Group therapy
  • Harm-reduction techniques
  • In-patient treatment programs
  • Marriage and credit counseling

Prayer For Gambling Addiction

I have been a Christian since I was 8 years old. When I was 15, all I want is to be well-known around my Asian community. I was a gambler, I took my parents money to go gamble without notice many times. I was a cheater, I had 2 lovers and I lost both of them on the same night. I was in darkness for many years.

When I was 19, I found a way to win money in gamble. I can make thousands of dollars each week and this skill is ever with me. At this moment, I have been going to church for more than 10 years already.

I never wanted to go to church but my parents forced me to go every Sunday I never listen to the message.

On Wednesday and Thursday that week, I started to test on his word to see what happen if I listen to his word and stop gambling.

I love this feeling so much, I sense that there is something going on here. I started TO chase after God since. My life started changing since; I have stopped gambling for 3 years now. I went back to school, God forgave all my sins, I teach the youth sometimes at my church, I shared my testimony at a winter Christian camp, and to many other people.

He blesses my life in many ways. I will continue to follow him and the rest he will take care. Please pray for me so that I can hold on to Him forever and ever. Check your inbox to activate your subscription.

Amazing testimonies this are made possible by readers yourself. This really touched me! I appreciate it because there are Christians who struggle with gambling and need to know that God can help them with this too.

I was baptized as a teenage but really had a true experience with God about two years ago.

I humbly ask you to forgive me my sins. You have blessed me time and again and I have squandered Your blessing. Please Lord, lead me back to You and Your love. Help release me from the devil that has gotten control of me. I am now in debt over my head and need your assistance to pay my bills. You have blessed me with a wonderful man and a future I never dreamed I could have.

I fear I will loose him and the future you lay before me if I can not get control of my gambling.

I beg you lord to take me back into Your fold, to help me see Your plan and to see to fruition to the dreams You have for me. Please Lord, help me to pay my loans and credit cards off quickly.

I can live with the means you have provided me through my job, if I could releve myself of these debts before June and the start of my new life with R.

Please Lord forgive me for leaving You from shame and fear. Please Lord, hear my prayer from a repentant heart and soul.

I will only succeed through You. In the Lords name I pray, Amen. I need help and support. Every time I get paid,i take out enough money for food and then gamble whatever is left in mu account.

I want to tell him but I feel so guilty and ashamed. I want my life back. I need to come clean. I duno what to do. Please God help me through this.
