Prayer for Home-Schooled Children

One of the best ways we can prepare our children as they go back to school is by praying for them. Here are 5 prayers to pray for you kids as they make their way into a new school year.

Our Father in heaven,

We’re nearing another changing of seasons. Summer is winding down, and a new school year is beginning – just it did last year, and the year before. Through this predictable repetition in our calendar and Your creation, we see Your faithfulness. Help us to look at the sunrise and remember that You always keep Your promises.

As we approach another transition sending our kids back to school, conflicting emotions wrestle within us. New fears jostle with new hopes. We’re happy to send our children back to the classroom, and sad to see them go. We delight in their excitement, and worry with them over the unknown.

Calm our hearts, Lord, and give us a peace that passes understanding. Remind us to commit our children to prayer, each and every day.

Use these prayers focused on the whole being of your child – social. mental, emotional and spiritual.

1. For Protection at School

Lord, as parents, our instinctual prayer for our children is that You would protect them. Please do protect their growing bodies, Lord — but even more, protect their souls.

Protect them from the deception of the evil one. Teach them the power they possess in the name of Jesus. Keep their eyes and ears from wickedness (Psalm 101:3).

Strengthen their spirits to resist the devil, so that he will flee from them (James 4:7).

Even when they are injured, whether in body or spirit, we pray that You would keep them strong in You.

2. For Maturity

Father, we pray that You would grow our children into men and women who love and serve You. We hate to see them suffer, Lord, and yet we know that in this world, we will have trouble (John 16:33). Help our children learn to lean into You, their Rock and salvation, when they face storms and trials in this life.

Cause them to take heart, knowing that You have overcome the world (John 16:33). Teach them to cast all their anxiety upon You, trusting that You care for them (1 Peter 5:7). Help them to daily “grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ” (2 Peter 3:18).

Hide Your Word in their hearts, that they might not sin against You (Psalm 119:11).

3. For Boldness Among Peers

God in heaven, we know that the social and peer pressures of this world are real, and they are strong. Media bombards us with images and opinions, most of them ungodly.

Satan uses a myriad of tactics to distract us from You; He has countless schemes to draw our attention away from the cross. Give our children feet that are firmly planted in Your truth.

Grant them a passion to defend Your name and Your Word.

Help them not to be ashamed of the gospel. Persuade them in their heart of hearts that Your Word is the power of God for salvation (Romans 1:16). Give them courage and confidence to keep their eyes on the prize of eternity.

Make them willing to suffer for Your name, knowing that it will be worth it in the end, when they receive the crown of life.

Give our children eyes to see the temporary nature of temptations in this life, and let them strive forward in hope of glory.

4. For Dependency on God

Help our kids realize that every breath that passes through their lips is a gift from You.

You alone give life and breath to all living creatures. The earth and everything in it belongs to you (Psalm 24:1). Show our children Your glory. Show them Your majesty, through Your creation, and through Your presence in their lives.

Help them to see that every good and perfect gift is from above (James 1:17). And help them to be grateful. Teach our kids that they can do nothing apart from Christ (John 15:5). Show them their utter need and dependency for You.

Father, we pray that You would cause them to bow the knee to You at an early age and acknowledge You as Lord and King.

5. For Compassion For Classmates

Father, we boldly ask that you would set apart our children as lights in a dark world. Make them shine a city on a hill (Matthew 5:14). Make them the good Samaritan, who took pity on the injured and offered help (Luke 10:25-37). Make our children willing and eager to serve.

Cause them to seek out the lonely child on the playground, the hurting and wandering soul. You are the Father of compassion, the God of all comfort – help our children to emulate Your character in all that they say and do. Clothe them with “compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience” (Colossians 3:12).

Lord, we’ve asked You for many things. We’re a needy people. Yet we bring You this final request, humbly and on our knees:

Help us, as parents, to trust You with our children. And even in that, Lord, we say “our children,” knowing full well that really – they’re Yours.

Amen.

A Back to School Prayer for our Kids

Prayer for Home-Schooled Children

Sometimes I get frustrated that the Bible gives us such little explicit instruction on the task of raising children.

Honestly, there are few things that matter more than raising up the next generation to love the Lord.  I have been a little weepy at the thought of my firstborn starting first grade this week.

His love for life and zeal for God is amazing (and encourages me daily), but there is still so much I feel we need to teach him.

As I was pondering all of this over the weekend, I began thinking about Jesus and how Mary must have felt when he was growing up.

Obviously Jesus was the perfect Son of God and would never sin even in his youth…but I find comfort in knowing that even so, Mary and Joseph probably discussed the best ways to bring him up just my husband and I do about our very imperfect children.

The Bible tell us so little about Jesus’s childhood.   But there is one tiny verse that encompasses the monumental years of his youth that I have been dwelling on:

As school begins once again, this is the verse I am praying for my children, specifically for my oldest.  It includes three of the most important aspects of a child’s life:  mind, body, and spirit.  Each of these aspects come with their own strengths and weaknesses, with obstacles and challenges to overcome in every facet of life.

In Wisdom

Lord, I pray that you will allow Caleb to grow in wisdom this year.  I pray that he will learn everything he is expected to know academically.  I pray that he will be successful in his studies and that he will be a diligent worker in what is asked of him.  Most of all, Lord, I pray that you would allow Him to grow in YOUR wisdom.

Help him to learn more about your character through his interactions with others.  Help the scriptures and stories we have been sharing with him from your Word to be a lamp to his feet and a light to his path.  Give us, his parents, the wisdom to help him discern between right and wrong in the situations he is faced with this year.

Above all else, help him learn to love You more.

In Stature

Lord, I thank you for the lives of our children.  I thank you that they are healthy.  I pray that you will protect their bodies and help them to continue to grow strong.  Protect them from illness and harm, Lord.

As school begins, I pray that Caleb will know that he is created in your image.  I pray that he will know that is “fearfully and wonderfully made”.

I pray that he will know that You created him exactly the way that you want him to be.  At times, words from others can be cruel.

Protect his heart and help him to rest in the truth that he is a priceless gift to us and, most importantly, to You…so much so that you sent your son for him.

In Favor with God and Man

Lord, I pray that you would allow Caleb to be a light for you.  I pray that he would be obedient to his teachers and kind to his classmates.  I pray that he will show kindness and compassion to everyone, but especially those who are treated poorly by others.  Give him the strength to stand up for the outcasts.

I pray that he will have integrity to do the right thing even when no one is looking.  Help him to surround himself with people who will help him grow closer to you.  I pray that he will be both a leader and a follower– a follower of yours but a leader for his peers.  Help his words and actions to be pleasing to you.

All this I ask in the name of your son Jesus.  Amen.

No matter whether your child will be attending public school, private school, or will be homeschooled, I think this prayer is all-encompassing for what we desire for our kids.

And I fully realize I am asking God for a lot…I certainly don’t expect my children to be perfect.  In fact, I need to pray much of this same prayer for myself.

But this is what I most desire for the lives of my children.

When we place the well being of our children in God’s very capable hands through prayer, we are surrendering control to Him.  I’m not sure there is anything else as equally scary, freeing, and comforting as this.  All I know is that He is certainly more capable than I am!

PS- I thought I would create a printable scripture card for those of us who wish to consistently pray this prayer for our kids throughout the year.  Stick it on your bathroom mirror or in the visor on your car…any place that you will see it regularly.  There are 4 identical cards on a page…you can print one for yourself and give the others to friends/neighbors if you would .

Powerful Prayers for Children and Kids [Quotes & Verses]

Prayer for Home-Schooled Children

On this page you'll find bible verses and prayers for our children are the most precious things ever entrusted to us to raise, care for, and love unconditionally.

Children are our future, and as parents, it is our duty to provide them with support and aspirations to succeed in life.

And more importantly, to teach our children about the gift of Jesus Christ, how He is the King of Kings, and our Lord of Lords in all things, and at all times.

Our children often face challenges along the road to success with all the pressures of society; from academic related studies, to the pressures of fitting in with new social groups and peers at school.

Through the power of prayer, your child will have the protection and guidance they need for a successful start to their aspirations, and day-to-day life.

Because of prayer, you can have faith in the knowledge that you are giving your children everything they deserve, need and long for as beautiful human beings, but also as a child of God.

If the need for prayer and protection for your children is what you are seeking most, whether in your own life, or in the life of someone you love, let us pray for you at the holiest place on earth, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

We have faith that sending your prayer to the place where our Lord Jesus Christ gave his life for us will help your request be granted! It is our honor and privilege to be a prayer warrior for you, and to ask the Lord to watch over you, protect you, and keep you, always.

“Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.” Psalm 127:3

Prayer for Protection and Care Over Our Children

Heavenly Father, we praise you for Your love and faithfulness in all things. We thank You for your protection and care over our families. Thanks be to You for giving us wisdom and righteousness for raising our children. We confess that some days, parenting is very tough.

Many days we can feel anxious, stressed or overwhelmed. We ask that You would make us more You, more aware of your constant Presence in our lives. Help us to release our children to You, so that You are free to fully accomplish all that You desire within the hearts of our child(ren).

Please fill our day to day life with Your truth, and cover us with Your favor in all things. Amen.

Prayer for Your Child’s Salvation

Father, I pray that my children will learn and understand Your holy scriptures, which are able to make them wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus. I pray that Your word will fill their minds and their hearts. May they come to know that You are the way, the truth, and the light.

Prayer for Child’s Health and Healing

Lord, according to Your Word, Jesus took stripes on His body so that we could be healed. He carried our infirmities, our downfalls, and bore our sicknesses to save us, and give us life.

Therefore, I ask for You to heal my child. I believe that they can and will be healed because of your miraculous power.

Please comfort them, watch over them, and give me the strength to do what is best for them in their time of need. Amen.

Prayer for Your Child’s Wisdom and Learning

I come to you Father, and pray that my children are knowledgeable and skillful in all wisdom, discernment, and understanding that I know is a gift from You.

I pray that they are competent to learn whatever they need to know, and that Your spirit fills them fully in all things. Lord, I know You can and You will give them the aptitude for understanding and wisdom when they are young, and when they are grown.

Their foundation starts with You, and I am grateful. In Your name I pray these things, Amen.

Prayer for Your Child’s Obedience to the Lord’s Will

My gracious Lord, I pray that my children conform to Your will in every purpose, thought and action at all times. When they are faced with decisions, that they will raise their eyes to You for guidance.

Life is full of uncertainty, but if they look to You in all things, I have deep faith in knowing You will lead them. I pray that they will follow Your plan for them, and always practice what is pleasing to You.

May Your everlasting love fill their hearts and minds before speaking, planning or moving forward when it comes to decision making.

May they always be obedient to You in their youth, and as they grow.

Verses:

“He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. And whoever welcomes one such child in my name welcomes me.” Matthew 18:2-6

“Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it.” Proverbs 22:6

“Honor your father and your mother, so that you may live long in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” Exodus 20:12
