10 Prayers For Help In Times of Need

Prayer For Help To Supply Those In Need Today

Isn’t it true that you spend more time offering prayers for help from God than in any other type of prayer? I know that is the case with me, as much as I do not to admit it. I am so thankful that we have a Heavenly Father who is full of mercy and grace and we can count on the fact that He will always answer our prayers for help.

We can cry out to Him in our time of need and He will rescue us. Though sometimes it seems He will never answer or does not hear, God is still on the throne and available and willing to listen to our prayers for help. Ask for help and then be still and know that He is God and will act in His time.

Listen to the song over there on the right on this page and then take a look at these 10 prayers for help that I have collected.

Gideon’s Prayer for Help – A Sign from the Lord

Judges 6:36-37, 39  “If you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said, 37 behold, I am laying a fleece of wool on the threshing floor.

If there is dew on the fleece alone, and it is dry on all the ground, then I shall know that you will save Israel by my hand, as you have said …let not your anger burn against me; let me speak just once more.

Please let me test just once more with the fleece. Please let it be dry on the fleece only, and on all the ground let there be dew.”

Hannah’s Prayer for Help – To Have a Son

1 Samuel 1:11 “O Lord of hosts, if you will indeed look on the affliction of your servant and remember me and not forget your servant, but will give to your servant a son, then I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor shall touch his head.”

Solomon’s Prayer for Help – Wisdom for a new King

1 Kings 3:5-9 “Ask what I shall give you.” 6 And Solomon said, “You have shown great and steadfast love to your servant David my father, because he walked before you in faithfulness, in righteousness, and in uprightness of heart toward you.

And you have kept for him this great and steadfast love and have given him a son to sit on his throne this day. 7 And now, O Lord my God, you have made your servant king in place of David my father, although I am but a little child. I do not know how to go out or come in.

8  And your servant is in the midst of your people whom you have chosen, a great people, too many to be numbered or counted for multitude.

9  Give your servant therefore an understanding mind to govern your people, that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this your great people?”

Daniel’s Prayer for Help – Seeking Mercy

Daniel 9:16-19  “O Lord, according to all your righteous acts, let your anger and your wrath turn away from your city Jerusalem, your holy hill, because for our sins, and for the iniquities of our fathers, Jerusalem and your people have become a byword among all who are around us.

17 Now therefore, O our God, listen to the prayer of your servant and to his pleas for mercy, and for your own sake, O Lord, make your face to shine upon your sanctuary, which is desolate. 18  O my God, incline your ear and hear.

Open your eyes and see our desolations, and the city that is called by your name. For we do not present our pleas before you because of our righteousness, but because of your great mercy. 19 O Lord, hear; O Lord, forgive. O Lord, pay attention and act.

Delay not, for your own sake, O my God, because your city and your people are called by your name.”

Jonah’s Prayer for Help – From the belly of a fish

Jonah 2:2-9 “I called out to the Lord, my distress, and he answered me; the belly of Sheol I cried, and you heard my voice.

3  For you cast me into the deep,

into the heart of the seas, and the flood surrounded me;all your waves and your billowspassed over me.

4  Then I said, ‘I am driven away

from your sight;yet I shall again lookupon your holy temple.’

5  The waters closed in over me to take my life;

the deep surrounded me;weeds were wrapped about my head

6     at the roots of the mountains.

I went down to the landwhose bars closed upon me forever;yet you brought up my life from the pit,O Lord my God.

7 When my life was fainting away,

I remembered the Lord, and my prayer came to you, into your holy temple.

8  Those who pay regard to vain idols

forsake their hope of steadfast love.

9  But I with the voice of thanksgiving

will sacrifice to you;what I have vowed I will pay.

Salvation belongs to the Lord!”

Paul’s Prayer for Help – Spiritual Strength in the Church at Ephesus

Ephesians 3:14-21  4 For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17  so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. 20  Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, 21  to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

A Prayer for Help – To Follow the Savior

God of all grace,You have given me a Savior, produce in me a faith to live by him,to make him all my desire, all my hope,

all my glory.

May I enter him as my refuge, build on him as my foundation, walk in him as my way, follow him as my guide, conform to him as my example, receive his instructions as my prophet, rely on his intercession as my high priest,

obey him as my king.

May your dear Son preserve me from this present evil world,so that its approval never tempt, nor its disapproval terrify, nor its vices defile,
nor its errors delude me.

May I feel that I am a stranger and a pilgrim on earth, declaring plainly that I seek a country,my title to it becoming daily more clear,my desire for it more perfect,my expectations of it more abundant;and whatsoever I do may it be done

in the Saviour’s name. [1]

A Prayer for Help – To Be An Instrument of God’s Peace

Lord make me an instrument of your peace,Where there is hatred let me sow love.Where there is injury, pardon.Where there is doubt, faith.Where there is despair, hope.Where there is darkness, light.

And where there is sadness, joy.

O divine master grant that I maynot so much seek to be consoled as to console;to be understood as to understand; To be loved as to loveFor it is in giving that we receive-it is in pardoning that we are pardoned. And it’s in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen  [2]

Prayer for Relationships

Prayer For Help To Supply Those In Need Today

The issue of relationships is something that’s constantly talked about among both men and women. Husbands, wives, kids, bosses, neighbors… relationships can be rewarding and fulfilling, but they can also be testy and challenging. When your heart is involved, your deepest needs tend to come to the surface.

So how can you pray for your relationships? Here are a few sample prayers for when you’re at a loss for words.

1. Prayer in the midst of conflict

Father in Heaven, I know I add fuel to the fire in my relationships because I am needy myself. I don’t to admit it, but I know it’s true. Thank You that You see me as I truly am and that You still love me.

Please help me to see myself honestly, and to own my own part in this conflict before I point my finger. Please give me insight into my own needs and give me patience as I encounter needs in the ones I love. I need Your help, Lord. Please guide me.

I pray this in Jesus’ name, amen.

Conflict very often reflects unmet needs. Sometimes there’s an easy solution, such as the need for sleep. But frequently, the need is much deeper:

  • To feel valued and heard. This often stems from insecurity or past hurts, and may show up as overly defensive with gloves on, ready to fight.
  • To forgive others or one’s self. The need to control can stem from an angry heart, and can show up as manipulation.

If your unmet needs are showing up in your relationships, talk to a mentor, friend, or a counselor to work through some of these issues. Pray for patience as you encounter the unmet needs in others, and regularly ask God for His help.

2. Prayer for help when I feel “less than”

Lord God, I so often feel inadequate without even realizing it. The disapproval I pour out on others often stems from my own insecurity. I don’t intend to fight. God, I need Your help. Please remind me to address my issues.

Help me to see myself differently and to allow You to love me and to change me. Help me to find my confidence in Your strength and in Your forgiveness. I invite You into my life today. I need You. In Jesus’ name I pray, amen.

It’s a natural tendency to want God to change the other person. Yet the reality is that you can only change yourself. Sometimes just realizing what words and situations make you feel “less than” is enough to begin the journey of change. Other times you may need help seeing yourself differently.

Be the beginning of change in your relationships. Find ways to give approval more often to those around you. When things need addressing don’t show your disapproval, but choose a calm time to talk. Ask for prayer. Relationships that are worth keeping are worth the effort.

3. Prayer for the words to say in a challenging relationship

Dear Father in Heaven, it is not possible for me to keep my mouth from speaking things it should not. I need Your power to guard my tongue. Help me to think before I speak. Help me to feel that nudge of Your Holy Spirit before words rush my mouth.

Father, I need You to help me to know what to say that will build __________ up rather than tear down or hurt. Please make me aware, by Your divine power, of __________’s needs so I can respond in a way that benefits him/her.

Help me to run to You when frustrations and anger bubble up, and may You ease my emotions and send me back with grace on my lips. Help me to be bold when issues need addressing, but gentle and loving in the way I address them.

Father, You are the only one who can perform this miracle in my life. I look to You today to set a guard on my heart and my mouth, as I don’t want to grieve You. And please forgive me for the times when I have grieved You! Walk with me closely today, because I need the help of Your Holy Spirit in dealing with __________. Thank You. I pray this in Jesus’ Name, amen.

God gives sound counsel in His word about how to deal with relationships. It all begins with what comes your mouth.

Listen to His words of wisdom:

“The tongue holds the power of life and death.” Proverbs 18:21

The power of our words is a tremendous force. It has been said that people will seldom remember the words you spoke, but they will always remember how you made them feel.

It’s true, isn’t it? It’s easy to remember those who have made you feel inspired and empowered. But it’s also easy to recall those who made you feel down and useless… just by their words.

Words have power. They can heal or hurt, build up or drag down, encourage or discourage, inspire or deflate.

You can begin the change today. And the good news is that you don’t have to do it alone! Jesus wants to transform and restore your challenging relationships, starting today. I encourage you to use the form below (in the “Connect” tab) to connect with a mentor for prayer. You can also leave a prayer request in the “Discuss” section and we'll pray for you there.

9 Good Prayers for Job Seekers

Prayer For Help To Supply Those In Need Today

In times of financial strain, looking to Christ is just one way to seek resolve. If you are in a situation of looking for a new job, here is a look at some good prayers for job seekers. These will help you to receive the Lord’s blessing and provide you the needed encouragement to become once again gainfully employed.

Prayers #1

Gracious and loving God, you know our need for meaningful work. Send your Holy Spirit to guide those who are searching for employment. Help them to recognize the gifts and talents you have given them.

Deepen their desire to follow your will. Inspire them as they contact potential employers. Give them patience as they wait for responses. Shelter them from feelings of rejection. Protect them from discouragement. Give them courage to overcome fear.

Shower on them the graces they need to persevere. Let this time of searching become an opportunity to grow in faith, to cultivate the virtue of hope, and to experience your healing love. We ask this through Christ our Lord. Amen

Prayers #2

God, our Father, I turn to you seeking your divine help and guidance as I look for suitable employment. I need your wisdom to guide my footsteps along the right path, and to lead me to find the proper things to say and do in this quest.

I wish to use the gifts and talents you have given me, but I need the opportunity to do so with gainful employment. Do not abandon me, dear Father, in this search, but rather grant me this favor I seek so that I may return to you with praise and thanksgiving for your gracious assistance.

Grant this through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Prayers #3

Father God, thank you for all of the blessings and opportunities that You have given me in this life. Wonderful family, wonderful friends and abundant love.

You have blessed me far proportion to the kind of person I was for most of my life. I am no longer that person and accept You completely into my life. I have accepted Your wonderful Son Jesus Christ into my life as well as my personal savior, knowing that He died on the cross for my sins.

I ask now for help as I am work and cannot provide for my family. I ask You to guide me toward a job where I can use my God-given talents to work for and toward Your greater glory!

I have had several great interviews but I am still waiting. I know You have heard my prayer and supplication and will answer my prayers as only You can! Thank You Father God, thank You Lord Jesus for being with me right now!

Prayers #4

Blessings and peace to all here who have come in search of God’s direction and peace of mind while looking for employment.

It’s easy to lose hope when we focus on ourselves and our own situation (and I’m guilty as charged!).

May the Lord Jesus show us what actions to take while remaining in His Sabbath rest. Protect us from drawing our value entirely from what we do, knowing that even the sick and oppressed are precious in His sight, and even the sparrow that falls does not go unnoticed by our Creator.

I’m fortunate to have a loving wife and children who care and whom I can care for and look forward to seeing how God will “Give us this day” what we need, not by meditating on the uncertain future or dwelling on the past but looking to Jesus the author and perfecter of our faith.

Please come quickly Lord Jesus, we need you right now.

Prayers #5

God be with me today in finding employment. Lead me to work that I love, and that has value. Guide me to a place with an atmosphere of respect and cooperation, in a safe and happy environment. Help me to find fulfillment mentally and financially. Thank you God, for bringing this to me today!

Prayers #6

Dear God, I place my humble needs before you: My need to meet my responsibilities in the world. My need to use my God-given talents and abilities. My need to fulfill my place here on earth.

I pray for Your guidance now to show me the way to the perfect opportunity to do what I love, to do what I can do well, and what will fulfill my needs mentally, spiritually, and financially. Help me to walk in faith as You show me the way!

Thank You, Lord. Amen!

Prayers #7

Oh, Sweet Jesus, I come to you in mercy as I am in agony of trying to find employment. I have been applying for several companies now and it always ends up going to another applicant.

You said that I should be specific in my prayer and I acknowledge your word. I am here, Lord, asking your mercy to please provide me with a good job that I need and is within your will.

I will do this for your greater Glory, Oh God. I am very sorry Lord for all my falls of dismay. If I have doubted your commands and wills for me. I know Lord, that I am blessed to have your salvation freely for me. And I will work for it through faith in everything that I do even as I fully garnered my employment.

“Then said the Lord to me, You have seen well, for I am alert and active, watching over My word to perform it.” Jeremiah 1:12

Prayers #8

Lord, you are a loving Father and generous to your children. You bless and inspire the world with your good work. Help me in my search for profitable work so that I may care for my own as well as you have cared for me. Thank you Lord, for your loving guidance today.
Amen!

Prayers #9

Lord, I am coming to you today with a heavy heart filled with regret over the past, and anxiety for the future. I am work, and my finances are in deep trouble. I have made many mistakes. Help me to forgive myself, and others, so that I may make amends with all concerned.

Grant me peace of mind, so I can fill my life with your goodness and grace. Guide me toward a good job where I may fulfill my needs as a better and wiser person. Thank you Lord, for listening to me and helping me today. Life is not always easy, but I will strive to remember that You are always there to help me As you are right in this moment. Thank you!

A Prayer for God’s Help in Times of Trouble

Prayer For Help To Supply Those In Need Today

“May your God, who you serve continually, rescue you!” – Daniel 6:16

The Story of Daniel: The Power of Prayer and Faith in Times of Great Trouble

If anyone needed help in time of trouble, it was Daniel. This verse finds him sentenced to a pit of lions for praying to and worshiping God (Daniel 6:13-18).

The administrators set to serve under the current reign of King Darius were bent on removing Daniel from his seat.

Daniel had found favor with King Nebuchadnezzar and King Belshazzar prior to King Darius’ reign through his interpretation of dreams and godly wisdom.

So, they convinced the king to “issue an edict and enforce the decree that anyone who prays to any god or man during the next thrifty days, except to you, O king, shall be thrown into the lions den” (Daniel 6:7). The king, not realizing that the “royal administrators, prefects, satraps, advisers and governors have all agreed …”(6:7) did not include Daniel, agreed.

The rest is history. We read in Daniel 6 the infamous story of Daniel’s bravery in the face of his choice to worship the Lord over the law (6: 10).

The king, distraught over the decree he was tricked into issuing (Daniel 6:14), nevertheless sealed Daniel into the lion’s den (v. 17). Unable to eat or sleep (v. 18), the king rushed to the den at dawn.

“Daniel, servant of the living God, has your God, whom you serve continually, been able to rescue you from the lions?” (vv. 19-20)

“My God sent his angel, and he shut the mouths of the lions,” came Daniel’s reply from the den.

The decree was reversed, requiring all in the land to worship God, and those who had conspired against Daniel were themselves tossed into the lion’s den.

What Daniel’s Story Teaches Us about the Power of Prayer and Faith

When we are pressed up against troubling times, let us look to Daniel’s example of how to gather strength in times of distress. Turning to God for justice and answers was not new territory for Daniel. It was habit. He prayed habitually. He looked to the Lord routinely.

If we establish a daily habit of turning to God in our lives, it’s more ly to be our immediate reaction in times of trouble.

There is no way around spending time with God: we must have a relationship with Him in order to experience His peace. We must spend time in the Word. We must spend time in prayer.

Pausing to look at our current situation in the light of His perspective is the essential path to taking hold of His peace.

Christ died to give us full access to our great God. We can look to His Word, look up to Him in prayer, and embrace the power of the Holy Spirit at work within us.

The societal misconception is that we possess the strength to pull ourselves trouble. But if we rely on our own strength, we’ll surely fail. It’s His strength that makes our salvation possible.

Walking with Christ isn’t about striving for perfection, but straining towards submission.

A Prayer You Can Pray for God’s Help in Times of Trouble:

Father,

We praise You for Daniel’s life and legacy, that we are able to read and study his life here today. Thank you for the glimpse you give us of his powerfully prophetic life. Thank you for this book of Scripture and how we can see Christ in it.

Daniel, we know Jesus faithfully endured the punishment for obedience to you. But un Daniel, you did not spare him from the “mouth of the lions.

” You let Your Son die a brutal death on the Cross, paying the penalty for our sins, and through his resurrection You’ve given us eternal life and access to Your glory. Oh Lord – thank You!

In every situation in our lives, may we remember that You are sovereign over all. Justice rightfully sits in Your hands, not ours. You are bigger. You are in control. You are omnipotent – all-present in times of trouble. Just Daniel, we can trust You with our lives. It’s Your purpose that puts our feet on earth.

May every trial we go through in this life bring us closer to You. Our prayer today is for our enemies, our conspirators, and our foes. We are all imperfect, and You love us all equally. Help us to leave justice at Your feet, seeking peace and the Spirit’s sensitivity before lifting the gate on our emotions.

Protect our hearts from bitterness and suspicions, comparison and insecurity. Teach us to be confident in You, alone. Right our hearts to place You at the helm. Bless our minds to run to You for solutions to problems that put our backs up against walls. Help us to resist gossip and slander, blame and unnecessary attacks on the character of others.

May the story of Your angel, who shut the mouths of the lions, help us to remember Your power and promise. When we are in trouble, help us to remember the cross. In the direst situation of all, Christ conquered death.

In a quickly crumbling world, let us be shards of light. May we be peacekeepers, and extensions of Your love. We’re not promised this world will be easy or fair, but You guarantee Your presence and Your love. Grant us courage to stick to Your standards. You are good, all the time.

In Jesus’ Name,

Amen.

6 Keys for Breakthrough Prayer in Times of Need

Prayer For Help To Supply Those In Need Today

Breakthrough! It speaks of overcoming an obstacle that is in our way—or of prevailing over a need, a restriction or an opposing enemy. Breakthrough can also mean an achievement or discovery that leads to significant progress. [1]

1.  Seek God’s Agenda First

‘This is the confidence we have in approaching God: that if we ask anything according to his will, he hears us. And if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him.’ (1 John 5:14-15)

Daniel was a godly man who read the scriptures—including the prophecies of Jeremiah. He recognised that Jeremiah prophesied about the times that Daniel was now living in and began to seek God for the answers. He knew it was time to birth that prophecy in prayer.

We need to know that we are praying God’s purpose for our lives. This means firstly praying according to God’s revealed will in the Scripture. Upon that foundation, we can also seek an intimate relationship with Father God in which we can hear His purpose for our lives and situation—and pray that. [2]

2. Don’t Settle for Second Best

Hannah was childless, and it grieved her. Wanting to reassure her, Hannah’s husband offered his love and personal gifts, thinking these could please her. But Hannah would only be satisfied with one thing—a baby. As a result of Hannah’s prayer, a future prophet and priest was born. Samuel would bring the nation back to God. (1 Sam 1)

When God has placed something on our hearts, then Hannah we will be tempted to settle for the ‘status quo’ or second best. But that is the very time to passionately press in to God for the answer.

3. Pray from the Heart

Hannah cried a wordless prayer of deep groaning—and God answered it. (1 Sam 1:12-16, Rom 8:26-27)) Nehemiah shot up a prayer whilst he was going about his daily occupation. (Neh 2:1-5) These seemingly simple prayers, carried from the heart, changed nations.

There are no right and wrong ways to pray. Just real prayers.

It’s time to put aside formulas, and not to be intimidated by someone else’s style and eloquence. The prayers that God answers are real prayers from the heart, regardless of time, place or technique.

4. Pray with Praise and Thanksgiving

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. (Phil 4:6)

Paul and Silas were in a difficult situation. God called them to evangelise a city, but they were stuck in a dungeon, held in stocks. As they prayed in the night and offered up hymns of praise, God sent an earthquake to open the prison doors. (Acts 16:22-29)

When used in addition to prayer, praise is a powerful cutting-edge weapon for breakthrough. (Ps 149:6-9)

5. Don’t Give Up

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up. (Luke 18:1)

Daniel prayed and fasted for 21 days before an answer came. An angel appeared who had been battling in the heavenlies for the entire time Daniel had been in prayer. Daniel’s persistent prayers provided fuel for what God was doing on his behalf. (Dan 10)

6. Find Others who will Agree with You

Jesus said, “…if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Matt 18:19-20)

Esther is known as a woman whose courage saved a nation. However, prior to approaching the King, Esther called on Mordecai, all the Jews of the city, and her own attendants, to fast before God for 3 days. Esther knew that the real power lay in God answering the prayer of those who had joined her in the fast. (Esther 4:16)

When in need of a breakthrough, find others who will join you in prayer, because there is multiplied power in agreement.

This Prayer For Inner Peace Comes In Handy When Life Gets Crazy

Prayer For Help To Supply Those In Need Today

Is your heart troubled? Are you feeling the psalmist, who asked his own soul, “Why are you in despair? And why have you become disturbed within me?” One of the hardest parts of knowing inner peace is understanding how it has nothing to do with control. If you’re having trouble with trust or finding the words to pray above the howling of the scary storms, feel free to offer up these words to the Lord now!

Credit: ThinkStock

Oh Lord, sometimes my insides feel a battle zone, where missiles are falling too close to home. Other times I’m caught in an endless storm, with thoughts flying control. Confusion reigns, and defeat creeps in to steal my joy.

I need your peace-the deep-down-in-your-heart kind that stays with me day and night and speaks confidently into the wind. Calm my anxious spirit, Lord; all the attacking “if-onlys” and “what-ifs” fill me with needless worry.

I know that trust is a big part of experiencing peace and that fear has no place in my life. Most of the things I worry about or dread don’t even happen. So I’m declaring my trust in you.

I’m releasing the reins of my life again and asking you to take control. I may need to pray this same prayer daily, but I’m tired of the frenzy of life that leaves my schedule and my thoughts without any margin.

I need more of you, Lord, and less of me.

I surrender and admit: I can’t control people, plans, or even all my circumstances, but I can yield those things to you, and focus on your goodness.

Thank you today for every good gift you’ve given, every blessing you’ve sent, all the forgiveness I did not deserve, and, yes, for every trial you’ve allowed into my life. You bring good every circumstance if I’ll only let go and believe you.

I know that when I pray and give thanks instead of worrying, you have promised that I can experience the kind of peace that passes all understanding. That’s your kind of peace, Lord. And it’s the kind I crave.

Whenever I'm stressed, anxious, or afraid, help me remember to run to you. You’re the only one that can calm my fears and end my fretful behavior.

Whether in trivial or heavy matters, I know you will not only give me peace; Lord, you will be my peace.

And when I draw close to you-in prayer, in reading your Word, in helping another, in taking my mind off myself-you will be there, up close and personal.

I can’t handle these times alone, Lord. Will you speak peace and calm my storms, or hold my hand while we walk through them together? Will you bring the reassuring wisdom of those who have come through similar times into my life? Thank you, Lord. I’m trusting you.

In the name of the One who makes the wind and the waves stand still, Amen.

Kasey Simmons is a sweet guy who just wants to make others smile. He did just that for an elderly woman he found crying in an aisle at the grocery. And while the Applebee’s waiter didn’t do it for any type of reward, his kindness was repaid in the most unexpected way — a $500 tip!

Kasey loves to make people smile. And God truly blessed him with a servant’s heart.

“It’s selfish really,” he says. “When people smile, I feel better. It lightens my world.”

The 32-year-old Applebee’s waiter was out doing his grocery shopping at Kroger when he saw an elderly woman crying. It broke his heart.

Kasey was determined to cheer her up, so he struck up a friendly conversation and paid for her groceries.

“It was only $17, but it’s not about the money — it’s about showing someone you care,” he said.

Of course, this chance encounter was no accident. The elderly woman never told Kasey why she was so upset, but God put the Applebee’s waiter in her path for a very specific reason!

Kindness Repaid

The woman’s daughter showed up at the restaurant where Kasey works to surprise him with a special “thank you.” She sat in his section, but kept her identity and purpose a secret from Kasey. As far as he knew, she was just another diner.

The woman’s daughter ordered the cheapest thing possible — a flavored water that cost $0.37. And when she paid the bill, she left a $500 tip and a message written on one of the napkins.

The heart-felt note explained how the elderly woman Kasey had comforted — her mother — was so upset because that day marked three years since she’d lost her husband. And the letter showed just how far one small act of kindness can reach. She wrote:

“On one of the most depressing days of the year … you made my mother’s day wonderful. You insisted on paying. Told her she is a very beautiful woman. I have not seen this woman smile this much since dad died.”

Kasey’s good deed not only blessed the elderly woman herself, but her daughter, too. And she wanted him to know just how much it meant to the family. And while the humble guy says he’d have declined the money if he’d had any idea that’s what they were there to do, he’s just glad to know his simple gesture made such a lasting impact.

Hear Kasey tell the story in the video below:

Top 7 Bible Verses To Help With Money or Financial Problems

Prayer For Help To Supply Those In Need Today

What are some of the top Bible verses that deal with money or financial problems?  Which ones would you include?

Worry about Tomorrow

This is one of the most powerful verses that many have committed to memory.

Most just quote “seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you” but what is left out is “all these things” which include anxieties about what we will eat, wear, and drink.  In 1st century Judea, most people worked daily for their wages.

That is, they worked and then got paid for that day.  They had no guarantees about tomorrow’s work and wages, therefore it was much easier for them to be anxious about the next day (tomorrow) than it is for us today but anxiety is not restricted to 1st century Judea.

Today we tend to be anxious about tomorrow when God only promises enough grace for today.  That is why Jesus said that it’s a waste of time to worry about tomorrow because “sufficient for the day is its own trouble.”

Testing God

This is the only place in the Bible where we are allowed to test God.  God tells us to bring in our tithes and put Him “to the test” to see if He won’t “open the windows of heaven” for us “and pour down a…blessing until there is no more need.”  He even promises to “rebuke the devourer for” us.

That means that if we trust God enough to give offerings, He promises to pour our blessings that will, in a sense, overwhelm us to the point that we have “no more need.

”  Test God by being faithful and generous in supplying the needs for the work of the kingdom and He will pour out more than we could ever imagine.

Every Need Met

Since God owns everything there is, is it too hard to trust Him to supply the needs for you or your family?  Of course not, but why do we, and why do I, still worry needlessly over things that God promises to provide for.  God supplies every one of our needs but not one of our greed’s.

The key word here is “need” because He knows what we need today and will need tomorrow too so why don’t’ we trust Him and take Him at His word?  The truest richest are already in our possession if we have repented and trusted in Christ.

Everything else is secondary in nature to salvation, yet it is too easy to get wrapped up in our needs, even when God promises to supply every one of them.

The Birds Don’t Worry

Have you ever seen a bird worry about their needs?  Can they even consider tomorrow? Have you ever seen a bird depressed, with their head down, and stopped chirping?  No, they don’t have to work and store up for tomorrow because God ensures that they are fed today and since we know that God values us above all other created things, why would He not do the same for us since we are “of more value than they?”

Pouring into your Lap

I love the picture Jesus gives us of giving.  When we give, “it will be given to” us but in what ways?  God will give back to us in “Good measure, pressed down, shaken together” and “running over [to] be put into [our] lap.

”  Imagine that you live day to day for your family and get paid only each day that you work.  That was the way it was in 1st century Judea for many.  Now imagine that you are paid by coins in a bag.

Since you have been generous in giving, you open your money bag to receive your day’s wages and it is given to you in good measure, then it is “pressed down” so more can be given.  After that, your money bag is shaken so that the coins settle allowing more room for money to be put in.

Then the employer pours yet more coins into your money bag until it spills over into your lap.  That is the image I get in this verse because God promises that “with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Honoring the Lord

Here, giving to the Lord is a sense of honoring Him because you trust Him.  When you “honor the Lord with your wealth” what results from this?  He ensures you that “your barns will be filled with plenty, and your vats will be bursting with wine.

”  Remember when this was written, there were no banks there are today so barns were the only place to have excess food stored and to have “vats…bursting with wine” meant that both food and drink will never be in short supply but only if you honor God with your offerings.

Wine is symbolic of joy so this could also mean that joy will be the byproduct of your giving to the Lord and when you give back to God, you honor Him by showing Him you trust Him enough to fill your barns and your vats.

Faithful in Little, Faithful in Much

Every one of us has been entrusted by God with the things that we have.  For most of us in the western world, we are richer by far than most of the world, yet studies show that the richer give proportionately less than do those who are poorer.

Jesus warns that those who have been given much, more will be required (Luke 12:48) and for those who have little and have been faithful in the little that they have, they will be given more.

Someday when the saved receive their rewards, those who were faithful in little will be rewarded with much and they will be entrusted with more.

Conclusion

Why shouldn’t we trust God because He owns all that there is?  Why not give back to God because all that we have is already His and we are only stewards.

Why do we tend to worry about tomorrow today?  Why don’t we test God in the only place that we’re allowed to and that is in our offerings to Him?  He promises to meet every one of our needs, just He does the birds of the air who could care less about what they’re going to eat or drink tomorrow.  If you honor the Lord, He will give back to you in an overflowing way that spills over into your lap and even if you have little and are faithful in that, He will entrust you to be faithful in much someday.  The question is, will you trust your eyes or will you trust God Who you cannot see with your eyes.  Even our eyes can lie to us but God never does.
