Five Promises for Your Bible Reading and Prayer

Prayer For God’s Promise Of Peace

Do you consistently seek God in the word and prayer? Or have you tried again and again, become discouraged, and given up?

We are deep enough into January that this is the story for many us. Resolutions have begun to stall. And even if you do get time with God, is it life-giving? Or is it just going through the motions, reading an assigned passage, praying through your list, and being relieved when it’s over?

It’s not too late to make some good changes. So, if you are struggling to spend time with God, here are five promises that can help:

1. God is my exceeding joy

Send out your light and your truth; let them lead me. . . . Then I will go to the altar of God, to God my exceeding joy. (Psalm 43:3–4)

God promises to be your exceeding joy, not because of what he gives, but because of who he is. When we behold and worship him, we have infinitely more joy than we have in anything else.

So, why would we rather sleep in than seek God? It’s because we’re not trusting that God is our exceeding joy. So, what can we do?

“Not seeking God because your faith feels weak is not going to the doctor because your body feels sick.” Don’t just grit your teeth and try harder. Do what the psalmist says: ask God to send you his light (the heart-enlightening work of the Spirit) and his truth (the word of God). Then pray over promises describing God as your joy, Psalm 43:3–4, Psalm 16:11, Matthew 13:44, and 1 Peter 1:8.

As you do, God will send his light and truth so you see and feel that he really is your exceeding joy. Then, when you see that infinite joy is found in him, you’ll want to spend time with him.

2. Hearing God’s word will increase my faith

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. (Romans 10:17)

Many mornings I’m tempted not to seek God because my faith feels weak. But that’s not going to the doctor because my body feels sick. Just doctors heal sick bodies, so God strengthens weak faith, as we hear his word.

Weak faith is a weak battery. But God’s word is a battery charger. So, when your faith is weak, open his word and plug in your weak faith. God promises that, as you do that, he will recharge you.

3. God’s word is the only perfect source of guidance

Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path. (Psalm 119:105)

The world is a pitch-black cave in which we can’t see anything. But God has given us the high-powered flashlight of his word.

So, if we head into our day without pondering God’s word, it’s stumbling through a cave without turning on the flashlight.

But starting the day in God’s word is turning on the flashlight, so we can see the crevice to avoid, the rock to duck under, the turn we want to take. Don’t head into your day without turning on the flashlight.

4. When I pray, God will answer

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.” (Matthew 7:7)

One reason we don’t pray is because we believe Satan’s lie that prayer does nothing. But that’s not what Jesus taught (Matthew 7:7).

Jesus promises that every time we pray, God will answer. He will either do exactly what we ask, or something even better, which he would not have done had we not prayed.

So, if I start the day praying about my heart, marriage, children, work, and ministry, then God will do things in my heart, marriage, children, work, and ministry that he would not have done had I not prayed. Trust Jesus’s promise about prayer — and pray.

5. This is the one thing which will not be taken away

“Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.” (Luke 10:41–42)

Martha had busied herself in the kitchen, while Mary sat at Jesus’s feet, listening to his word. And Jesus said Mary had made the right choice, because she had chosen the one thing which could not be taken from her.

“When we would rather sleep in than seek God, we’re not trusting that God is our exceeding joy.”

Everything else can be taken from you. But time with Jesus will never be taken from you, because the heart you nurture for Jesus now will bring you increased joy in him forever. And ever. And ever.

So, if you haven’t spent time with God, and you are tempted with the newspaper, , or a phone call, stop. Ask yourself: What will bring me joy that will never be taken away?

Then set everything else aside to join Mary at Jesus’s feet, listening to his word.

Tomorrow Morning

The alarm goes off.

I’m tired. Maybe just a little more sleep. But wait. . . .

  • God is inviting me to exceeding joy.
  • His word will strengthen my weak faith.
  • His word will shine light on the darkness around me.
  • When I pray, God will work.
  • This is the one thing that can’t be taken from me.

I think I’ll get up.

Prayers for Peace

Prayer For God’s Promise Of Peace

Lord Jesus, we adore your cross which frees us from sin, the origin of every division and evil; we proclaim your resurrection, which ransoms man from the slavery of failure and death; we await your coming in glory,

which will bring to fulfillment your kingdom of justice, joy and peace.

Lord Jesus, by your glorious passion, conquer the hardness of our hearts, imprisoned by hatred and selfishness; by the power of your resurrection, save the victims of injustice and maltreatment from their suffering; by the fidelity of your coming,

confound the culture of death and make the triumph of life shine forth.

Lord Jesus, unite to your cross the sufferings of the many innocent victims: the children, the elderly, and the persecuted Christians; envelop in paschal light those who are deeply wounded: abused persons, deprived of freedom and dignity;

let those who live in uncertainty experience the enduring constancy of yourkingdom: the exiles, refugees, and those who have lost the joy of living.

Lord Jesus, cast forth the shadow of your cross over peoples at war; may they learn the way of reconciliation, dialogue and forgiveness; let the peoples so wearied by bombing experience the joy of your resurrection: raise up Iraq and Syria from devastation; reunite your dispersed children under your gentle kingship:

sustain Christians in the Diaspora and grant them the unity of faith and love.

O VirginMary, Queen of peace, you who stood at the foot of the cross, obtain from your Son pardon for our sins; you who never doubted the victory of his resurrection, sustain our faith and our hope; you who are enthroned as Queen in glory,

teach us the royal road of service and the glory of love.

Amen.

Pope Francis' Prayer for Peace (June 4, 2014)

Lord God ofpeace, hear our prayer!

We havetried so many times and over so many years to resolve our conflicts by our ownpowers and by the force of our arms. How many moments of hostility and darknesshave we experienced; how much blood has been shed; how many lives have beenshattered; how many hopes have been buried… But our efforts have been in vain.

Now, Lord, come to our aid! Grant us peace, teach us peace; guide our steps in the way ofpeace. Open our eyes and our hearts, and give us the courage to say: “Neveragain war!”; “With war everything is lost”. Instill in our hearts the courageto take concrete steps to achieve peace.

Lord, God ofAbraham, God of the Prophets, God of Love, you created us and you call us tolive as brothers and sisters.

Give us the strength daily to be instruments ofpeace; enable us to see everyone who crosses our path as our brother or sister.

Make us sensitive to the plea of our citizens who entreat us to turn ourweapons of war into implements of peace, our trepidation into confident trust, and our quarreling into forgiveness.

Keep alivewithin us the flame of hope, so that with patience and perseverance we may optfor dialogue and reconciliation.

In this way may peace triumph at last, and maythe words “division”, “hatred” and “war” be banished from the heart of everyman and woman. Lord, defuse the violence of our tongues and our hands.

Renewour hearts and minds, so that the word which always brings us together will be”brother”, and our way of life will always be that of: Shalom, Peace, Salaam!

Amen.

Prayer of Pope Benedict XVI for the World Day of Peace (Jan. 1, 2007)

Tothe Queen of Peace, the Mother of Jesus Christ “our peace” (Eph 2:14), Ientrust my urgent prayer for all humanity at the beginning of the year .. .

to which we look with hearts full of hope, notwithstanding thedangers and difficulties that surround us.

May Mary show us, in her Son,the Way of peace, and enlighten our vision, so that we can recognizeChrist's face in the face of every human person, the heart of peace!

Pope John Paul II

O God, Creator of the universe, who extends your paternal concern over every creature and guides the events of history to the goal of salvation, we acknowledge your fatherly love when you break the resistance of mankind and, in a world torn by strife and discord, you make us ready for reconciliation.

Renew for us the wonders of your mercy; send forth your Spirit that he may work in the intimacy of hearts, that enemies may begin to dialogue, that adversaries may shake hands and peoples may encounter one another in harmony.

May all commit themselves to the sincere search for true peace which will extinguish all arguments, for charity which overcomes hatred, for pardon which disarms revenge.

Prayer of Pope John Paul II for the World Day of Peace (Jan. 1, 2002)

“Salve, Madre santa!”Virgin Daughter of Zion, how deeply must your Mother's heart suffer for this bloodshed! The child you embrace has a name that is dear to the peoples of biblical religion: “Jesus,” which means “God saves.” So the Archangel named him before he was conceived in your womb (cf. Lk 2,21).

In the face of the newborn Messiah, we recognize the face of all your children, who suffer from being despised and exploited. We recognize especially the faces of your children, to whatever race, nation or culture they may belong.

For them, O Mary, for their future, we ask you to move hearts hardened by hatred so that they may open to love and so that revenge may finally give way to forgiveness.

Obtain for us, O Mother, that the truth of this affirmation — No peace without justice, no justice without forgiveness — be engraved on every heart.

Thus the human family will be able to find the true peace, that flows from the union of justice and mercy.

Holy Mother, Mother of the Prince of Peace, help us!

Mother of Humanity and Queen of Peace, pray for us!

Blessed John XXIII

Lord Jesus Christ, who are called the Prince of Peace, who are yourself our peace and reconciliation, who so often said, “Peace to you,” grant us peace. Make all men and women witnesses of truth, justice, and brotherly love.

Banish from their hearts whatever might endanger peace. Enlighten our rulers that they may guarantee and defend the great gift of peace. May all peoples of the earth becomes as brothers and sisters.

May longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always over us all.

Pope Leo XIII

O Lord, you see how everywhere the winds have burst forth, and the sea is convulsed with the great violence of the rising waves. Command, we beseech you who alone are able, both the winds and the sea.

Restore to mankind the true peace of your name, that peace which the world cannot give, and the calm of social harmony.

Under your favor and inspiration may men return to due order, and having overthrown the rule of greed, bring back again as ought to be, the love of God, justice, charity toward neighbor, temperance in all desires. May your kingdom come.

May all recognize that they are subject to you, and must serve you who are truth and salvation; that without you they labor in vain. In your law is reason and fatherly kindness. You are ever at hand with your strength and your copious power to help man to keep it. Life upon earth is a warfare, but you watch the contest and aim man to conquer. The weak you sustain; the victor you crown.

Saint John of the Cross

O blessed Jesus, give me stillness of soul in You. Let your mighty calmness reign in me. Rule me, O King of Gentleness, King of Peace.

Alcuin of York

Christ, why do you allow wars and massacres on earth? By what mysterious judgment do you allow innocent people to be cruelly slaughtered? I cannot know.

I can only find assurance in the promise that your people will find peace in heaven, where no one makes war.

As gold is purified by fire, so you purify souls by these bodily tribulations, making them ready to be received above the stars in your heavenly home.

Saint Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of Thy peace;Where there is hatred, let me sow charity;Where there is injury, pardon;Where there is error, the truth;Where there is doubt, the faith;Where there is despair, hope;Where there is darkness, light; andWhere there is sadness, joy.

O, Divine Master,Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled, as to console;To be understood as to understand;To be loved as to love;For it is in giving that we receive;It is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

And it is in dying to ourselves that we are born to eternal life.

Amen.

Study 8 THE PROMISE OF PEACE IN THE MIDST OF STORM – Words of Life Ministries

Prayer For God’s Promise Of Peace

GREAT PROMISES IN THE OLD TESTAMENT by Francis Dixon

(Key verse: Isaiah 26:3)

This promise was given by God in the darkest period of Israel’s history, yet it will be a great help to us now when we are surrounded by much gloom and depression, constantly threatened with the three enemies of doubt, fear and worry.

When all is going well it’s easy to read a promise this in a superficial way, but when disappointment and trial comes these words become precious. There is no promise in the Bible to suggest that here on earth we shall ever experience freedom from trouble, war, trial, temptation, anguish, loss etc.

, but something far better is promised: it is the promise of perfect peace in the midst of all these.

Of what value would freedom from these troubles be if we had no inward peace? Yet it’s possible in the fiercest battle for the trusting soul to experience a deep-down calm, an inward peace and a quiet confidence –- look up Isaiah 30:15. Do you long to experience perfect peace?

1. NOTICE WHAT THIS BLESSING IS THAT IS OFFERED TO US

It is described as ““perfect peace””, but can we define that? Yes, it is a condition of freedom from disturbance; it is perfect harmony reigning within us. The Hebrew word ‘‘shalom’’ has in it the idea of soundness of health, so that to be filled with perfect peace is to be spiritually healthy and free from discord within our souls.

There can be no room for jealousy, envy, uncontrolled temper, selfishness, pride, intolerance, harsh criticism, fear or anxiety in the soul that is filled with peace; all these things are disturbing factors in our hearts and discordant notes. The peace which God offers and which by His grace we may experience is very practical. It is a great calm which He commands (Mark 4:39).

God calls His peace ““perfect peace””. In what sense is it perfect?

  1. 1. It is perfect in its quality. That is to say, it is perfect in the kind of peace it is. There is an imperfect peace; there is the imperfect peace of ignorance when we imagine that all is going well, whereas in fact all is not well (Jeremiah 6:14). There is the imperfect peace of stagnation. The pool of water may be calm and peaceful but underneath it is foul and green with slime. Many men and women know only a peace that, and one day the shock of God’’s judgment will stir up their pool and they will find that they have no real peace at all (Isaiah 57:14). Then there is the imperfect peace of dependence, which is a peace dependent upon some thing or some person in this world. The ‘‘thing’’ may fail, the ‘person’ may die –- and where then is their peace? In contrast, God’’s peace is perfect.
  2. 2. It is perfect in its quantity. That is to say, the supply of it is sufficient and it exactly meets our need. The marginal rendering of ““perfect peace”” is ““peace, peace”” –- that is double peace. Notice the significance of this in Philippians 4:7 where we read that this double peace is the peace of heart and of mind; and that is the kind of peace we need, a peace that garrisons our mind and calms our heart. It is also double peace in the sense that it is peace with God (Romans 5:1) and the peace of God (Philippians 4:7), and we can never know the peace of God until we know peace with God.
  3. 3. It is perfect in its constancy. It is permanent and not intermittent. The promise says, “”You will keep…”” –- compare Psalm 121:4.

2. HOW DOES THIS PERFECT PEACE COME TO US?

  1. 1. By Christ Jesus. In Philippians 4:7 we read that the Lord Jesus Christ is the source from whom God’’s peace flows into our souls.

It is the possession of the Christian alone; there is no peace for anyone who does not possess Christ and who is not resting on the finished work of Christ for salvation, thereby ““making peace through his blood, shed on the cross””. Read Colossians 1:19-20.

  2. 2. By the Holy Spirit.

The Lord Jesus Christ procured peace on the Cross of Calvary and it is offered to us by Him as the source; but it is conveyed to our hearts and minds by the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22). As the Holy Spirit fills and floods our lives, so He produces this fruit within us.

  3. 3. By His Word.

Have you ever noticed the great promise made in Psalm 119:165? A better rendering of ‘’stumble’’ is ‘‘disturb’’. How often things and people disturb us! But here is a promise of perfect peace to those people who love, meditate in and obey the Word of God.

  4. 4. By our obedience.

Please look up Leviticus 26:3-6 and be sure to notice that the most important word here is the word ‘‘If’’’. God guarantees to us that if we will do our part He will surely do His part.

  5. 5. By plenty of prayer and praise. Notice that the promise of Philippians 4:7 is preceded by the conditions mentioned in verse 6.

3. TWO CONDITIONS MUST BE MET IF WE WOULD EXPERIENCE PERFECT PEACE

Who will God keep in perfect peace? The one ““whose mind is steadfast”” and the one who ““trusts””.

Both these expressions denote faith but one is a head word and the other is a heart word.

What is the difference? With the head we believe that God is the author and giver of peace and that He is able and willing to give it; and with the heart we trust Him to do it, so receive it by faith.

Isaiah 26:3 begins with God and ends with God; it begins with ““you”” and ends with ““you””, and the trusting soul goes in between. Perfect peace is the Lord Himself within us –- not an experience, a doctrine, an ‘’it’’, a code of belief –- but the Lord Himself!

5 Powerful Prayers for Peace Within

Prayer For God’s Promise Of Peace

Is your heart troubled? Are you feeling the psalmist, who asked his own soul, “Why are you in despair? And why have you become disturbed within me?” One of the hardest parts of knowing peace is understanding how it has nothing to do with control.

If you're having trouble with trust or finding the words to pray above the howling of the scary storms, feel free to offer up these words to the Lord now! Below are 5 of our most favorite prayers to speak when we need God's peace to speak over our heart and mind.

A Prayer for Peace Within

Oh Lord, sometimes my insides feel a battle zone, where missiles are falling too close to home. Other times I'm caught in an endless storm, with thoughts flying control.

Confusion reigns, and defeat creeps in to steal my joy. I need your peace—the deep-down-in-your-heart kind that stays with me day and night and speaks confidently into the wind.

Calm my anxious spirit, Lord; all the attacking “if-onlys” and “what-ifs” fill me with needless worry.

I know that trust is a big part of experiencing peace and that fear has no place in my life. Most of the things I worry about or dread don't even happen. So I'm declaring my trust in you.

I'm releasing the reins of my life again and asking you to take control. I may need to pray this same prayer daily, but I'm tired of the frenzy of life that leaves my schedule and my thoughts without any margin.

I need more of you, Lord, and less of me.

I surrender and admit: I can't control people, plans, or even all my circumstances, but I can yield those things to you, and focus on your goodness.

Thank you today for every good gift you've given, every blessing you've sent, all the forgiveness I did not deserve, and, yes, for every trial you've allowed into my life. You bring good every circumstance if I'll only let go and believe you.

I know that when I pray and give thanks instead of worrying, you have promised that I can experience the kind of peace that passes all understanding. That's your kind of peace, Lord. And it's the kind I crave.

Whenever I’m stressed, anxious, or afraid, help me remember to run to you. You're the only one that can calm my fears and end my fretful behavior.

Whether in trivial or heavy matters, I know you will not only give me peace; Lord, you will be my peace.

And when I draw close to you—in prayer, in reading your Word, in helping another, in taking my mind off myself—you will be there, up close and personal.

I can't handle these times alone, Lord. Will you speak peace and calm my storms, or hold my hand while we walk through them together? Will you bring the reassuring wisdom of those who have come through similar times into my life? Thank you, Lord. I'm trusting you.

In the name of the One who makes the wind and the waves stand still, Amen. ~ Rebecca Barlow Jordan

A Short Prayer for Peace

Lord, I come before you ready to pour out my worries, anxieties and fears at Your feet. I am claiming and declaring Your promises for blessings of peace and strength over my life. Bring a peace into my soul that passes all worldly understanding and make me a light for others to see Your strength.

A Prayer for Peace of Mind

Almighty God, We bless you for our lives, we give you praise for your abundant mercy and grace we receive. We thank you for your faithfulness even though we are not that faithful to you. Lord Jesus, we ask you to give us all around peace in our mind, body, soul and spirit. We want you to heal and remove everything that is causing stress, grief, and sorrow in our lives.

Please guide our path through life and make our enemies be at peace with us. Let your peace reign in our family, at our place of work, businesses and everything we lay our hands on.

Let your angels of peace go ahead of us when we go out and stay by our side when we return. In Jesus' name, Amen.

A Prayer for Missing Peace

Father God, my heart is filled with chaos and confusion. I feel as if I am drowning in my circumstances and my heart is filled with fear and confusion. I really need the strength and peace that only You can give. Right now, I choose to rest in You. In Jesus' name, Amen. ~ Mary Southerland

A Prayer for Peace When You're Overwhelmed

Lord, when my heart is overwhelmed, overwhelm me with Your peace. Lead me to You, my rock. Guide me to Your Word which gives me strength and refuge. Help me not to run to lesser things. Draw me to run to You first. Help me get into the habit of taking my “overwhelmed” and placing it under your will. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. ~ Jennifer Rothschild

A Prayer for the Troubled Heart

Dear God, Our world is hurting and broken. We pray for those who have lost loved ones this week, please comfort them in their grief and loss, cover them with your peace and presence, as only your Spirit can do.

We know that in whatever we face, you are our Peace and Refuge, a very present help in times of trouble. Thank you that you remind us throughout your Word, we do not face the storms alone, but you are always with us.  Whispering calm.

Speaking peace. Bringing rest to our souls.

We confess our need for you. We ask you to forgive us for trying to figure everything out on our own, for not trusting that you are more than able and powerful to work on our behalf.

Forgive us for picking back up what we already determined to lay down at your feet.

Give us the ability to trust you more, give us a heart that finds rest in your presence, give us the wisdom to seek peace and pursue it, remembering it’s only to be found in you alone.

Thank you that your yoke is easy and your burden is light. Thank you that you care for us. Thank you that the peace of your loving and strong presence guards and protects our hearts and minds in you.

Thank you that we do not have to walk in fear or live in overwhelmed cycles of worry and stress. Thank you for your voice that breaks through the greatest wind and storm swirling around us, and whispers “Peace, be still.

” Thank you that you sent your One and Only Son to set us free. In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen. ~ Debbie McDaniel

A Prayer for Peace in Hard Times

Draw me to run to You first. Help me get into the habit of taking my “overwhelmed” and placing it under your will. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen. ~ Lysa Terkeurst

Lord, how I long to break free from negative thinking and embrace peace and joy and optimism. I invite You to begin transforming my thought patterns and help me recognize, reject and replace thoughts that are not pleasing to You. In Jesus' Name, Amen. ~ Traci Miles

The world wants to steal your peace. Your mind wants to steal your peace. But, don’t worry because prayer has the effects on mental health. Prayers for Peace of Mind and Heart

A calm and undisturbed mind and heart are the life and health of the body, but envy, jealousy, and wrath are rottenness of the bones. (Amplified Translation)

These prayers for peace of mind asks god to relieve anxiety and stress, and grant a clarity of mind to feel at ease in one’s life. Say it in the morning or evening on a daily basis until you feel at peace.

Also, one of the best prayers for anxiety is the famous Acceptance Prayer. If you’re not familiar with this prayer, I highly recommend it.

Life can easily spiral control, but not when prayer becomes a priority. – Jackie M. Johnson tweet

You have tasted shame.

I meditate on you O Lord. For you have beaten death,You have covered everything

With gentle loving breath.

I meditate on you O Lord. For you’re the promise bright,You’re the hope of healing hands,

A Prayer for Health

A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body;
jealousy is cancer in the bones. (Proverbs. 14:30 NLT)

My Father,

You know the stress points in my life. One by one I hand them over to you. I lay them at your feet, knowing that you care for me even more than I care for myself. I give you all my fears, anxieties, pain, sin, burdens, and worries.

I surrender all of that to you.

And I receive from you, Prince of Peace, the quiet fortitude of your Holy Spirit, the peace that stays calm even in the battle, the confidence that doesn’t diminish when everything around me shakes profusely.

Please cleanse me of all negative emotions towards others. Forgive me for jealousy, covetousness, envy, and anger. Help me to rejoice with those who rejoice. And then please, Lord, grow me up to maturity.

Renew my mind in your Holy Word, and give me your great joy. As I walk in your love, I know the level of Peace will grow in my heart and expand and spill over to others.

That peace will be a source of health to my body, and for that, I thank you in advance.

I surrender myself to your leadership, Your Lordship. I love You, Father, and I thank you for your Spirit living and abiding in me. Thank you that I have the power that Jesus has promised to withstand every trial, temptation, and test.

In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Anxious People

“Father, I pray for (name one or more) and others in my circle of family and friends who are carrying heavy loads… Your Word says an anxious heart weighs a person down, and this is how I think they must feel—as if they’re carrying heavy loads, more than they can bear.

When they feel upset and beside themselves, calm them down and comfort them with the assurance of Your love. Help them not be overwhelmed by anxious thoughts.

(Proverbs 12:25a; Psalm 94:19) Our hearts are not supposed to be troubled; but that’s their struggle—help them trust

You and the Lord Jesus, as I know they must.

Help them understand that You are the One who makes a way when things seem impossible; nothing is too hard for You! (John 14:27; Isaiah 43:19; Jeremiah 32:17; Luke 1:37) Help them be faithful to You and to the way You want them to live, for You guard the lives of those who are faithful; You protect them and never turn away from them. Help them know You as their fortress, as the rock in whom they take refuge, as One who is good, whose love endures forever, whose faithfulness continues through all generations. (Psalm 97:10; Proverbs 2:8; Psalm 37:28; 94:22; 100:5)

In Jesus’ name, amen.”

Lord, I am frazzled. My hands are full and my mind is reeling with all the things I have to do. Please help me to accomplish all that needs to get done each day and to find rest. As I work, help me to be productive and peaceful. As I love others, help me to be calm and encouraging. I need your peace in every area of my life today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation.

2 Thessalonians 3:16

Lord, it feels there’s so much to accomplish each day, and sometimes it’s hard to rest. I’m afraid I won’t get it all done. I’m afraid I will fail. Yet you promise to strengthen me.

You are the mighty God! Help me to focus on what you can do, not what I cannot. Empower and encourage me. Give me the lasting strength only you can give. Replenish me so I can live life better and stronger.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

For I can do everything through Christ who gives me strength.

Philippians 4:13

Prayer for Comfort and Strength

(a prayer for those in a difficult or stressful place)

Lord,Lead me into the valley of your protection.

May I feel safe and secure sheltered there.

Lead me to drink from streams of life.
May I find hope and healing in the waters.

Lead me to fields of green meadows.
May I rest in quiet places on the softness of your grass.

Lead me into the light of your eternal truth.
May I bathe in the promise of heaven.

Amen.

Getting My Priorities in Order

Lord, I have my agenda, but what do you want done today? Help me to prioritize all that needs to get done. In the midst of life’s busyness, help me to be centered on what’s truly important and not always get caught up in the urgent. Help me to put you first, for I know that from my replenishing time with you all else flows. I will seek you first. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.

Matthew 6:33

Lord, I am so grateful for rest. It was your idea in the first place! Instead of tossing and turning at night with eyes wide open, I give you my worries and cares, my lists and schedules. With open hands, help me to release all I cling to so tightly. I need rest for my spirit and my body. Let me live from a calm and grounded center as I come to you each day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.

Matthew 11:28–30

A Litany of Peace

Let us pray for all who suffer as a result of conflict,

and ask that God may give us peace:

for the service men and women who have died in the violence of war,

each one remembered by and known to God;

May God give peace

God give peace

for those who love them in death as in life,

offering the distress of our grief and the sadness of our loss;

May God give peace

God give peace

for all members of the armed forces who are in danger this day,

remembering family, friends and all who pray for their safe return;

May God give peace

God give peace

for civilian women, children and men whose lives are disfigured by war or terror,

calling to mind in penitence the anger and hatreds of humanity;

May God give peace

God give peace

for peace-makers and peace-keepers,

who seek to keep this world secure and free;

May God give peace

God give peace

for all who bear the burden and privilege of leadership,

political, military and religious;

asking for gifts of wisdom and resolve in the search for

reconciliation and peace.

May God give peace

God give peace

O God of truth and justice,

we hold before you those whose memory we cherish,

and those whose names we will never know.

Help us to lift our eyes above the torment of this broken world,

and grant us the grace to pray for those who wish us harm.

As we honour the past, may we put our faith in your future;

for you are the source of life and hope,

now and for ever.  Amen.
