Prayer For Christian Prisoners

Pray With These 21 Christian Prisoners in Iran and 14 Awaiting Appeal Verdicts

Prayer For Christian Prisoners

To help you pray specifically with Christian prisoners in Iran and those waiting for the verdict on their appeals, we have compiled a list of names and stories to introduce you to those who, at this moment, are suffering behind bars because they are “not ashamed of the gospel” (Romans 1:16) and, the Apostle Paul, have risked their lives to tell others about the Jesus who revealed Himself to them and transformed their hearts and lives.

The lists below represent current prisoners in Iranian prisons and Christians in the appeal process. However, they are not exhaustive. There will always be cases we don’t know of, cases that are kept secret because it’s better for those involved, etc.

Bur our hope is that as you read these names; discover a small piece of their story; and see their photo (for some), you will connect to their heart and share in their suffering.

As Paul reminds us in his letter to the church in Corinth:

“If one part suffers, every part suffers with it; if one part is honored, every part rejoices with it” (I Cor. 12:26).

We encourage you to leave a prayer for one or many of these men and women on our Prayer Wall this month–devoted to praying with isolated Christians in Iran. You can also read the prayers of others who are praying with you.

CURRENT PRISONERS

From left: Saheb Fadaie, Youcef Nadarkhani, Yasser Mossayebzadeh and Mohammad Reza Omidi.

Saheb Fadaie was arrested July 6, 2017 (along with three others, including Pastor Yousef) and was sentenced to 10 years in prison for “propagating house churches and promoting ‘Zionist Christianity.’” On July 24, he was arrested at home and taken to Evin Prison.

Pastor Yousef Nadarkhani has been arrested and convicted several times for his passion to organize and lead house churches, and see Muslims come to Christ.

His most recent sentence on July 6, 2017, led to his violent arrest on July 22, 2018 when 10 plain-clothes Iranian police officers raided his home, using unnecessary force on both him and his teenage son.

Yousef is now in Evin Prison, serving a 10-year sentence followed by another sentence of two years of internal exile away from his family.

Yasser Mossayebzadeh On July 2017, Yasser (along with three others, including Pastor Yousef) was arrested and sentenced to 10 years for “propagating house churches and promoting ‘Zionist Christianity.’” On July 25, he was arrested and taken to Evin Prison.

In October 2017, he went on a hunger strike to protest against being held in a ward of dangerous criminals and demand a transfer. He ended his strike 40 days later after he was moved and continues to serve his sentence. Following his prison sentence, Ebrahim is to serve two years’ internal exile in the remote town of Sarbaz near the Pakistan border.

His elderly mother is suffering from cancer. Ebrahim was the financial support for his mother and sister.

Sevada Aghasar was arrested with Ebrahim Firouzi on Aug. 21, 2013, and released on bail in March 2014. He was sentenced on April 20, 2015, to five years in prison and after an unsuccessful appeal, began serving his sentence on July 4, 2017.

As a result, he is in danger of losing his teeth.

Mehrdad Houshmand and Sarah Nemati On September 10, security forces arrested a Christian couple after summoning them to the intelligence ministry, accusing them of “performing funeral rituals according to Christian faith.” He and Sarah were transferred to an unknown location and are believed to still be detained.

Ramiel Bet-Tamraz (son of Victor and Shamiram Isavi Khabizeh) was arrested Aug. 26, 2016, during a picnic in Firuzkuh and released on bail. On June 18, his hearing took place and on July 11, he was sentenced to four months in prison for “acting against national security” by joining house churches.

APPEALS IN PROCESS

Typically, appeal verdicts for Iranian Christians who are convicted and sentenced rarely go in the defendant’s favor. Usually, the sentence is upheld. These Christians are awaiting the verdict on their appeal hearings.

Victor Bet-Tamraz and his wife, Shamiram Isavi Khabizeh, are both awaiting appeal verdicts.

Victor Bet-Tamraz, an Assyrian pastor, was arrested and jailed for “illegal house-church activities” and was sentenced to 10 years. His appeal was heard in June. The pastor was arrested with two members of his church in 2014 as they celebrated Christmas together.

Shamiram Isavi Khabizeh, the wife of Victor Bet-Tamraz, is appealing against her own five-year prison sentence for “acting against national security and the regime by organizing small groups, attending a seminary abroad and training church leaders and pastors to act as spies.”

Bahram Nasibov, Eldar Gurbanov and Yusif Farhadov were arrested with Nasser-Navard Gol-Tapeh (he is currently in Evin Prison) on Oct. 29, 2016, while at a Christmas party and sentenced to 10 years each in prison. The appeal hearing on Nov. 12, 2017, upheld the sentence. Bahram and Yusif are awaiting their summons to prison.

Eskandar Rezaei and Suroush Saraei were arrested on July 6, 2017, sentenced to one year in prison for “acting against national security” by forming house meetings and proselytizing. Their appeal was March 8, 2018. They are awaiting the court verdict.

From left: Amin Afshar-Naderi, Kaviyan Fallah-Mohammadi, and Hadi Asgari.

Amin Afshar-Naderi and Kaviyan Fallah-Mohahammadi On December 26, security officers raided the home of Pastor Victor Bet-Tamraz, an Assyrian Christian, during a Christmas celebration, and detained him, Amin and Kaviyan.

On June 3, 2017, the three men were each sentenced to 10 years in prison and a two-year ban on travel abroad for “acting against national security by organizing and conducting house churches.

” Amin was sentenced an additional five years for “insulting the sacred” (he shared a post from someone that “adopted a Quranic writing style” about the sharp rise in the price of chicken in Iran).

Hadi Ashgeri was arrested during a picnic on August 26, 2016, in Firuzkuh and on July 4, 2017, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. All his identification documents were confiscated. He is awaiting his appeal outcome.

Andre Vatanian and Nana Badrian

Andre Vatanian and Nana Badrian, a Christian couple from an Armenian ethnic background, were arrested by Tehran’s intelligence service on January 4 and 14. Both are out on bail awaiting a trial for national security-related charges for their Christian activities.

Anousheh Reza Bakhsh (known as Veronica) and her son, Soheil Zagarzadeh Sani (known as Augustine) were arrested in Urmia in August 2017, convicted of “acting against national security by evangelizing “ and sentenced to five years in prison.

PRAYING WITH IRANIAN CHRISTIANS IN PRISONS

We can take comfort in knowing that our sovereign, omniscient, and omnipotent God knows about every arrest, every conviction and every prison sentence, and every appeal won and lost. And that He has a plan our limited human view just can’t comprehend.

Throughout history, God has used persecution as part of His sovereign plan to spread His gospel and strengthen believers. Scripture tells us repeatedly that we will not always understand God’s ways. But we continue to pray even when things don’t make sense in our heads and hearts, trusting God and His wisdom–remembering that He is good.

Pray with Iranian believers in prison and awaiting their appeal … in many ways praying somewhat miraculous prayers:

  • Pray that prisoners experience the presence and the power of the Holy Spirit, even in their prison cells.
  • Ask God to give them supernatural endurance and courage, becoming bold witnesses to the guards and other inmates.
  • Pray that they walk in peace and talk in wisdom during interrogations, almost daily for some.
  • Pray that they will find physical healing and favor with guards as they request medical treatment.
  • Ask God to give them dreams and other ways to assure them their families are safe. Sometimes Christian prisoners–especially at the beginning of their term when authorities are threatening to harm their families during interrogations–are not allowed to talk to family members.
  • Pray that imprisoned Christians learn to pray for their persecutors and to see them as tools the Enemy is using to thwart the gospel.
  • Pray that they will continue to pray each day, asking God to guide their steps and bring them closer to the heart of Christ.
  • Ask God to make a way for them to have a Bible or get their hands on the printed Word.
  • Pray that they will be reminded of strengthening and comforting scriptures, especially in difficult situations.
  • Pray that ultimately, prisoners will be released and allowed to return home.
  • Ask God to be almost tangibly close to those in exile away from their family.
  • Pray for peace and comfort for Christians and families awaiting the verdicts of appeals. Ask God to prepare them for the road ahead and ultimately, that their sentence would be overturned.
  • Pray with prisoners in Open Doors’ post-prison trauma counseling. Ask God to open their hearts and close their eyes to difficult scenes and memories that would keep them from recovery and healing.

Don’t forget to leave a prayer for one or many of these men and women on our Prayer Wall this month–devoted to praying with isolated Christians in Iran. You can also read the prayers of others who are praying with you.

CHRISTIAN POETRY

Prayer For Christian Prisoners

Christian poetry is any poem that contains Christian teachings, themes or references.

Christian poetry acknowledges the sacrifice Jesus made to save our souls.

These poems offer us words of comfort and wisdom in times of need, encouragement when we are afraid, and hope for a better tomorrow.

We all have days when we feel we can't survive.Sometimes dreams are shattered.Friendships may fall apart.Love ones may hurt us.Finances may worry us.Sickness may overtake us.But, God will always be there to guide usthrough even the toughest of times.Never lose faith.Hold on to hope.Trust in God always.

Amen

Christian Poem: You’re Always There for Me

When the world comes crashing inAnd chaos rules my mind,I turn my heart to you, Lord,And pure, sweet peace I find. You lift me troubleYou comfort me in pain; You nourish, heal and cleanse me, cool, refreshing rain.

In times of joy and bliss,When things are going right,You lift me even higher,And fill me with delight. You listen to my prayers; You hear my every plea;I’m safe because I knowYou’re always there for me.

Joanna Fuchs

I pray that happiness be at your door. May it knock early, stay late and leave the gift of God's peace, love, joy, and good health behind.

Just going to church doesn't make you a Christian any more than standing in your garage makes you a car. ~ G.K. Chesterton.

A sacrifice to be real must cost, must hurt, must empty ourselves. The fruit of silence is prayer, the fruit of prayer is faith, the fruit of faith is love, the fruit of love is service

the fruit of service is peace.

~ Mother Teresa

God

When I am alone, God is my comforter. When I am nothing, God is my everything. When I am sad and lonely, God is my song and joy. When I am weak and helpless, God is my strength.

Amen

Today's Prayer

Where there is love, there is life.Where there is life, there is hope.Where there is hope, there is faith.Where there is faith, miracles happen.Where there is peace, there is God.And when you have God, you have everything.

Amen

Christian Prayer, Letting Go

Forgive me Lord, for these Thy gifts, were taken quite for granted. My harvest could have been so full,if seeds of faith I'd planted. Instead, I spent time wishingfor the things that I had lost, when all the while you held for me,more blessings at no cost.

You waited oh so patiently, for me to just let go,so there'd be room inside my heart,to feel your blessings flow. I never thought I'd say it Lord, but”thank you” for this thorn. It brought me to myknees in prayer, wherehope and faithwere born!

Santa's Prayer

My dear precious Jesus, I did not mean to take your place,I only bring toys and things and you bring love and grace.People give me lists of wishes and hope that they came true; But you hear prayers of the heart and promise your will to do.

Children try to be good and not to cry when I am coming to town; But you love them unconditionally and that love will abound.I leave only a bag of toys and temporary joy for a season; But you leave a heart of love, full of purpose and reasons.

I have a lot of believers and what one might call fame; But I never healed the blind or tried to help the lame.I have rosy cheeks and a voice full of laughter; But no nail—scarred hands or a promise of the hereafter.

You may find several of me in town or at a mall;But there is only one omnipotent you, to answer a sinner’s call.And so, my dear precious Jesus, I kneel here to pray;

To worship and adore you on this, your holy birthday.

Happy New Year

Throughout the New Year, and each step of the way,May Christ be your portion, your joy and your stay. With God's precious precepts your daily delightTo lead and encourage in paths that are right.

“The Lord is my Shepherd,” how precious the word! He'll lead in green pastures, His promise is heard.”Beside the still waters” – what comfort and rest! What peace there is found upon Jesus' breast.

His “goodness and mercy,” each day may you prove,His comforting presence, His infinite love! With richest compassions, each morning anew,May multiplied mercies be showered on you! “My cup runneth over,” His grace so abounds,That fullest enjoyment in Jesus is found.

“The Lord is my portion,” this may your soul say,And you will be happy each step of the way.

~ Lois Beckwith

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven,Hallowed be thy Name.Thy Kingdom come.Thy will be done,On earth as it is in heaven.Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,As we forgive those who trespass against us.And lead us not into temptation,But deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom,The power, and the glory,For ever and ever.

Amen

Christian Poem: The Weaver

My life is but a weaving,Between the Lord and me.I cannot choose the colors,He worketh steadily. Oft times He weaveth sorrow,And I in foolish pride,Forget he sees the upper,And I, the underside.

The dark threads are as needful,In the weaver's skillful hand,As the threads of gold and silverIn the pattern He has planned. Not 'til the loom is silentAnd the shuttles cease to fly.

Shall God unroll the canvasAnd explain the reasons why.

~ Author Unknown

I Take Your Hand Sweet Jesus

When my world falls down around meAnd the ground is sinking sandWhen peace can't be found on this earthI reach out for your hand When your hand wraps 'round my ownA strength pours from your soulIt brings me to a quiet calmTil once again I'm whole A peace beyond all reasonA rest there in your touchSomething in your quiet wordsMy heart yearns for so much… If I but rest my worriesUpon your shoulder thereStrength that pours forth from your soulWill wash away each care. a cool sweet taste of waterFor a tired thirsty manMy heart finds peace, my soul is calm

When I reach out for your hand.

Rise & Shine

Awake my child, embrace the day,for I've blessed you with a chance…to choose to spend it joyfullythrough every circumstance. If you could see YOU through my eyesyou'd never feel alone… or lost, or sad, or less than great, for your strength is not your own.

I offer you My Spirit,so don't let it waste away.I pray that you'll accept My giftand grow closer every day.Now Rise & Shine! And guard your thoughtsby keeping them on Me.I'm giving you what you need today, though you may not always see.So ask Me child, for what you need,I'm just a prayer away.

I bless you & I send My love,

on this ordinary day!

Christian Poem: Hang It On The Cross

If you have a secret sorrow,a burden or a loss,An aching need for healing…Hang it on the Cross. If worry steals your sleepand makes you turn and toss,If your heart is feeling heavy…Hang it on the Cross.

Every obstacle to faithor doubt you come across,Every prayer unanswered…Hang it on the Cross. For Christ has borneour brokennessand dearly paid the costTo turn our trials to triumph…

Hanging on the Cross

Christian Prayer: A Child's Prayer

Heavenly Father, are you really there? And do you hear and answer every child's prayer? Some say that heaven is far awayBut I feel it close around me as I prayHeavenly Father, I remember nowSomething that Jesus told disciples long agoSuffer the children to come to meFather, in prayer I'm coming now to Thee. Pray, he is there;Speak, he is listening. You are His child; His love now surrounds youHe hears your prayerHe loves the children.Of such is the kingdom, the kingdom of heaven.

Christian Poem: Jesu

Jesu is in my heart, his sacred nameIs deeply carved there : but th’other weekA great affliction broke the little frame,Ev’n all to pieces: which I went to seek:And first I found the corner, where was J,After, where ES, and next where U was graved. When I had got these parcels, instantlyI sat me down to spell them, and perceivedThat to my broken heart he was I ease you,And to my whole is Jesu.

By George Herbert

ONE

One tree can start a forest; One smile can begin a friendship; One hand can lift a soul; One word can frame the goal; One candle can wipe out darkness; One laugh can conquer gloom; One hope can raise your spirits; One touch can show you care; One life can make a difference,

be that one today.

Christian Christmas Poems

Why do the bells of Christmas ring? Why do the little children sing? Once a lovely shining star,Seen by shepherds from afar,Gently moved until its light,Made a manger's cradle bright. There the darling baby lay,Pillowed soft upon the hay;And its mother sung and smiled:”This is Christ, the holy Child!” Therefore bells for Christmas ring,

Therefore little children sing.

The Christmas Story

Once upon a time,A long, long time ago.Begins the story of baby,That most of you should know. His daddy's name was Joseph,And Mary was his Mom,This babe was very specialHe was God's only Son. Some angels came from heaven,And they began to sing.

To the shepherds in the fields below,”Glad tidings do we bring!” A bright star lit heavens,To light the magi's way,To the baby in the mangerWho was born on Christmas day. And all who gathered round Him,Rejoiced and praised His birth.

For the babe, the King, named Jesus,Is our Saviour here on earth!

People hurt you, God will heal you. People humiliate you, God will magnify you. People judge you,

God will justify you.

LORD

Enlighten what's dark in me, Strengthen what's weak in me, Mend what's broken in me, Bind what's bruised in me, Heal what's sick in me, And lastly, Revive whatever peace and love has died in me.

Amen

Dear God, Bless me with: Ears that can hear your voice, A mind that understands your direction, Eyes that see your vision, Hands that will do your work, A mouth that will speak your word, Arms that will reach out and help, and feet that will walk by faith.

Amen

Another favourite of mine is Make Me a Channel of Your Peace, by St Francis of Assisi. Of course, many of the old hymns are also poetry, written to encourage and inspire. In addition, much of the book of Psalms was written in poetic form, to help us understand how to speak to God, especially in difficult times.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

In his heart a man plans his course but the Lord determines his steps. ~ Proverbs 16:9

Listen for God's voice in everything you do and everywhere you go; He's the one that will keep you on track.
~ Proverbs 3:6

God has sent His only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through Him. ~ John 4:9

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to His purpose. ~ Romans 8:28

Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. ~ Proverbs 3:5

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.. ~ Psalms 23:4

10 Short Daily Prayers For Christians

Prayer For Christian Prisoners

Prayer is something that should be a part of our lives daily throughout the day. We should pray when we wake up, go to sleep, and many times in between. Even if you and I don’t have a lot of time to pray, God still wants to hear us. Here are 10 short daily prayers that you can pray throughout your day.

Morning

“In the morning when I rise, in the morning when I rise, in the morning when I rise, give me Jesus.” (Fernando Ortega, Give Me Jesus)

Father in Heaven,

Thank you for watching over me as I slept through the night. Your hands of comfort and strength held me as You watched over me. Father, I love You. You love me so much and I am in awe of how amazing You truly are. As I begin my day, I simply pray that you walk with me and lead me where you please. May Your will be done this day. Amen

In The Car

“Pray without ceasing” (1 Thessalonians 5:17)

O Lord,

An ambulance just went by. Father, I pray for Your mercy on who is injured in that ambulance. Father, use your hands of healing on them and bring them to the hospital safely.

May it be that they will live through this and find You if they haven’t already. Father, reach for them and show them Your love. Be with the family of this person and comfort them through this time of pain and suffering.

May Your name be glorified in this. I love You, Father! Amen

I pray that today you will be with me as I am patient with my boss (the thorn in my flesh).

Your Boss (The Thorn In Your Flesh?)

“I don’t wanna say a word, unless it points the world back to you, back to you!” (Hawk Nelson, Words)

Lord,

I pray that today you will be with me as I am patient with my boss. He/she preaches diversity and equality to look good and does things that are the complete opposite. Father, this is such a struggle for me.

I don’t even want to go to work some days because of the unfairness. I have strength to go on those days only because of You, Father. Thank You for giving me Your peace that passes all understanding when I need it most.

May my boss and fellow workers see Jesus in me today. I love You, Father! Amen

School

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.” (Ephesians 4:15)

Dear Lord,

I thank You for my school and the faculty that runs it. I pray that you will give me courage to speak the truth in the midst of lies that may be taught there. I don’t ever want to accept a lie just to get a better grade.

Father, be with me as I fight for truth in the midst of chaotic moments there. I know we did not evolve from monkeys because God made humans special and different from the animals.

May it be that Your name be glorified today as I shine the light of Jesus Christ to a hurting world. I love You, Lord! Amen

Rifts Among Friends

“What causes quarrels and what causes fights among you? Is it not this, that your passions are at war within you?” (James 4:1)

Forgiving Father,

Forgive me for my own sin that is a part of the reason for a hurting friendship. I miss the way things were before our fight. Lord, I need your strength right now. I want to mend this relationship badly, but it has to be You that my friend sees in me. Father, give me the words to say today as I try to reconcile a wonderful friendship. I love You, Lord! Amen

Plans

“For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

Gracious Lord,

I have many things to do today. Bills need to be paid, a dental check-up, an oil change in my car and many other things. Father, I pray that You will be with me as I do all of these things. More importantly, I ask that You show me what plans You have prepared for me today. May it be that I don’t put my plans ahead of Yours, Lord. You know what is best for me, Father, and I love You! Amen

Prayer For The Evening Meal

“Blessed be the Name of the Lord from this time forth and forevermore!” (Psalm 113:2)

Father in Heaven,

Blessed be Your Name! You have brought my family back home safely through all of the things we accomplished today. I am grateful for this family You have given me. Thank you for my spouse and my children. I am truly blessed. Father, thank you for this food that has been prepared.

I pray that You would use it to nourish our bodies and give us strength. Thank You most of all for Your Son, Jesus, who paid the price for our sins on the cross. Words cannot express how thankful I am for the cross.

All glory, honor and praise belong to You! I love You, Father! Amen

Prayer Before Devotions

“An intelligent heart acquires knowledge, and the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.” (Proverbs 18:15)

Dear Lord,

Prepare my heart for what I am about to read in Your Holy Word. I pray that You would enlighten my mind to understand everything I read. I want to know You more, Father. Show me Your will in this time as I grow closer to You through Scripture. I praise Your Holy Name, Father! I love You! Amen

I Am Thankful

“Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise! Give thanks to Him; bless His Name!” (Psalm 100:4)

Wonderful Lord,

I just want to thank You for everything You are. You have given me Jesus and now You look at me as if I am holy. I can’t wrap my mind around this because I know how stained I am with sin. Father, I thank You for the beauty in nature.

Thank you for lush wooded forests, crystal clear island waters, the sun for warmth and light, the moon, and the twinkling stars that You have specifically placed into constellations for us. You are wonderful and awe-inspiring, Father.

I love You! Amen

Prayer For The Lost

“All the poor and powerless
And all the lost and lonely
All the thieves will come confess
And know that You are holy
And know that You are holy” (All Sons And Daughters, All The Poor And Powerless)

Father, God

I pray for the lost and hurting people in this world. We are all surrounded by greed, malice, strife, conceit, pride, and many other horrible, evil things. Father, I pray that You would use me to spread Your Good News to someone today.

It grieves me to know many who have died without Jesus. Hell is such a horrible place. To be eternally separated from You is hell, Father! I am eternally grateful for the cross, and Jesus’ blood spilled for me.

Father, I truly am in love with You! Amen

13 Uplifting Inspirational Prayers for Prisoners

Prayer For Christian Prisoners

Being incarcerated can make an individual feel they have hit rock bottom. These uplifting inspirational prayers for prisoners can help to alleviate the physical and emotional challenges they may be faced with during their time of incarceration.

Prayer #1

Heavenly Father I come to You with a heavy heart as my son has recently been sent to prison and has now been separated from me and his family for many years.

Lord I know that prisons can be such hard and cold places and pray that in Your mercy You would look down on him in pity, and bring him I pray, to full repentance. Lord, draw him to Yourself – so that he comes to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus.

I pray that this experience will not embitter him but rather will cause him to rethink his whole life and lighten the darkness in his soul I pray and bring him into Your family I pray. Keep him safe I pray, knowing that prisons can be places of uncaring brutality and return him to us I pray in the days that lie ahead, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Prayer #2

Father we give you thanks for our lives, and that you teach us to number our days, help us to know that every day is a gift whether it comes with joy or trouble. Lord we pray for those who find themselves in prison or those of us confined by other walls.

We pray for them and ourselves that we would all know you are the God of HOPE and that is a HOPE that does not disappoint because it is poured into our hearts by your Holy Spirit.

Prayer #3

Father, we pray for those who are incarcerated, but we also pray for their families that they would receive the care and attention they need, and have their physical, emotional, and spiritual needs met by other family members, friends, church members, or someone else. Please Lord, allow them to keep their hope alive that a family member behind bars is still not forsaken or forgotten by God if they have trusted in Christ; if not, we pray for them to know Your Son, Jesus Christ.

May the families find comfort from others who are in similar situations and that they would be praying for one another. Oh Righteous Father of Mercy, I pray for these men and women who are cut off from their families and who are serving time behind bars.

As you know, it is very hard being separated from loved ones. I pray these inmates may be able to see themselves as you see them, and that they are a child of theirs and are co-heirs with Christ, just as much as those who are out in the world.

We know, if they never get out, we will all meet together someday at the great wedding feast of the Lamb of God.

If they are able to be released, please shield them from the judgment of others because they have already paid their debt to society, and they are now free. They shouldn’t be referred to as a criminal, con, or anything but a child of God…just we are.

Many of these men and women face that double jeopardy every day of their life after prison, so help others see them as forgiven and cleansed, and a child of God, and treated with respect and not treated as if they’re still guilty.

I pray this in the name that is above all names, the Lord Jesus Christ, Amen.

Prayer #4

Heavenly father, today we lift to You those in prison who cannot face tomorrow. We pray that you will place people around them who will speak words of comfort and show acts of kindness that encourages their spirit. But most of all, we ask that when the noise of crashing doors and shouting has faded, Your voice will be heard, bringing hope in the darkness once again. Amen.

Prayer #5

Father, we know You can even use evil for good. All we need to do is to look at the cross, so help these men and women who are incarcerated to know that everything in our life, good and bad, is for our ultimate best (Rom 8:28).

Sometimes we don’t always understand how bad can be good. Help these prisoners to see that God is not going to give up on them, because Your Word shows that You forgive their sins and cleanse them from all unrighteousness.

If these prisoners are able to see that You are still working in their life Lord, they might have hope and know that You have promised to never leave them or forsake them (Deut 31:6; Heb13:5), even when they or we forsake You.

Help them to take You at Your Word, and not use their feelings to guide their beliefs. Perhaps You can use others to help them inside the prison Lord, for nothing is too hard for You. Allow them to see the good that can come from where they’re at now, and even if it looks bleak, good will come from it, and in Jesus’ strong name I pray, Amen.

Prayer #6

Heavenly Father, I bring before You the many men and women who are incarcerated behind prison bars and been deprived of their freedoms, due to their many and various crimes.

Father You alone know the heart of each one and the reason why they are imprisoned – and You alone are the One that can bring these men and women to repentance, and to a saving faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Father, You alone can convict these people of their crimes – and we pray for each one, knowing and You died to pay the full punishment for each of their sins – And Lord although it is only right that men and women face the bitter consequences of their crimes – I pray that they will come to an understanding that in Christ their sins maybe forgiven and that each one will come to true repentance by trusting in the Lord Jesus as their Saviour.

I pray that You would send into the different prisons around the country and indeed the world, those who would minister to these prisoners in their need, and tell them of Christ and the wonderful forgiveness of sins that comes from Him alone. Have pity in each one I pray, in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Prayer #7

Father God, I pray for those prisoners who are behind bars and that You give those who’ve trusted in You, peace. Please help them to know that You are sovereign over all things and that much good can come from bad (Gen 50:20; John 3:16), and in even these men and women’s darkest hours, You are their true source of light which is found in Jesus Christ.

I pray that you give them the peace that Your Word promises for those who believe in Your Son (Rom 5:1) and please help them to know they are no longer condemned (Rom 8:1).

With the comfort that You give us, please give to them Lord, so that they might pillow their head tonight in peace, knowing that if you would come tonight, those doors would be open forevermore.

I ask this for the glory of the Lord, Jesus Christ, in Whose name I pray, Amen.

Prayer #8

Heavenly Father, we lift up the many people that have devoted their lives to ministering to men and women in our prisons and pray that you would use their life and witness to draw many into a saving relationship and faith in Jesus Christ.

Lord we know only too well the path that has led each prisoner to be convicted of their crime and confined to a prison cell – but we pray that in Your grace and mercy You would reach out to all such men and women and send labourers into this harvest field to share the good news of the gospel of Christ.

Prepare each heart to receive the message of Salvation with joy and hope and may many prisoners be brought into a saving faith in Jesus Christ our Lord.

Thank You Father that there is no crime so great that You cannot forgive and no sin too big that it is beyond the power of the blood of Christ to cleanse completely.

Where there is a feeling of hopelessness in the heart of any prisoner or a doubt that God could ever forgive their particular crime – we pray that You would convict them of their need to turn to Christ for forgiveness – and to believe on His redemptive work on the cross – knowing that He is willing and able not only to forgive all their sins, but to clothe each one in His own garment of righteousness – simply by believing in Jesus Christ as Saviour.

Thank You Father – in Jesus name I pray, Amen.

Prayer #9

Great God in Heaven, You alone determine the future and know that which is not yet, so help these men and women to see that You have a purpose for where they are now, and know that You can use anyone for Your glory and for Your purposes, including them. We know that You have commissioned us to make disciples of all nations, and that includes those who are incarcerated.

Father, may You use these Christians behind bars to bring others into the kingdom by pointing others to Jesus Christ and trusting Him.

They realize that You have allowed them to suffer the consequences for their own actions, yet I realize You may use them to reach others behind bars where we cannot, so please Father, make divine appointments for these Christians in prison, and allow them to cross paths with those whose heart You have prepared for the Word, and in the Holy Name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.

Prayer #10

Loving heavenly Father, we pray for the many Christians who are being held in prisons, both at home and abroad, simply because they trust in the Lord Jesus as Saviour – many of whom have been falsely accused of crimes or deliberately set up to fall foul of the law– simply because they are believers in Your name.

Lord we pray that You would be with each one in their imprisonment. Break any bonds of fear and bitterness – and may the love of Jesus be shown forth in their actions and attitudes, so that those with whom they have to do, recognise that there is something very special about them, and the God Whom they serve.

Set each one free we pray not only from their physical incarceration but also from their spiritual prison – Help them to rest in the Lord Jesus, knowing that in a small part they are participating in the fellowship of His suffering.

Use each one as a witness of Jesus Christ and may many be drawn into the kingdom of God, simply because of their gracious love they display in their time of great difficulty, in Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Prayer #11

Father God, truly only You know how these men and women feel at this time. We cannot know exactly what they are living through right now. The world seems to be getting more dangerous every day Lord, and maybe for these men and women who might live with that fear.

In Your sovereign providence, it pleased You to call out some of these in their darkest hours, and to become new creations in Christ (2nd Cor 5:17); to a new life in Christ. Help see that they can run to You Father, for You are a Rock and a Shield to those Who trust in You.

In Your great wisdom God, You sometimes use hard places to soften hearts, and in such darkness, your grace is more amazing. Not many of us are great in the eyes of the world, but You have no respect for persons. You reach out to those who humble themselves Father, so help them submit to You and be set free from their fear by trusting in You.

Please Father, protect them on the inside so that they would be able to study Your Word, be a witness to those still sitting in darkness, and submit to authorities which is submitting to God (Rom 13:1-5). God, You alone know the future of these men and women; help them to rest in Your sovereignty. Help them to know they can trust in You.

For those who have not trusted in Your Son and received eternal life, please set divine appointments for those who are Christ’s witnesses inside the prisons, and keep them safe from harm while being His voice.

May You receive all the glory for these men and women’s lives that’ve trusted in You, and in the mighty name of Jesus Christ I pray, Amen.

Prayer #12

Heavenly Father, In Jesus You promise us fullness of life. We pray that all prison chaplains and chaplaincy volunteers will be filled with that fullness as they minister in Your name.

May their ministry be richly blessed as they share your Hope with all those whom they meet, both prisoners and staff.

We make our prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit now and forever.

Amen.
