Fighting for Your Kids: 5 Scriptures Every Mom Should Pray

Prayer For A Child On Drugs

You want your kids to be okay, to be safe and un-harmed. You want them to love the Lord with all their hearts and follow after God and not fall to the snares of the world.

And you want them to make healthy and wise choices as they grow and mature.

But let’s be real: you also know you can’t make all that happen; there is SO much about parenting beyond our control, especially as our kids get older and start becoming more and more independent.

it or not, we can’t protect our kids from every evil or every bad choice.

That’s why prayer is so vital.

In prayer, we ask the omnipotent, omnipresent God to intervene on behalf of our children.

Sometimes the best thing we can do as parents is simply fight for them.

I’m not talking about fighting with the teacher, the legal system, or with other parents, I’m talking about fighting on your knees. I’m talking about fighting with prayers for your children.

I Peter 5:8 says the enemy of our souls is on the prowl, ever looking for someone to devour. That means:

  1. We really do have an enemy and
  2. We are his targets… me, you, our spouses, and sadly, our innocent children.

Praying for your kids is one of the most powerful things you can do as a parent.

This week I was reading in Nehemiah and was so encouraged by this passage from Nehemiah 4:14:

“Don’t be afraid of the enemy! Remember the Lord, who is great and glorious, and fight for your brothers, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your homes!”

Praying the Scriptures for your children is the best way to FIGHT!

And while that seems a no-brainer, so many of us struggle with consistency. Can I get an amen?!

I’ve learned having a simple plan to follow helps me tremendously with prayer for my children. Without one, I flounder.

There are SO many wonderful Scriptures to pray for our children but for this post, I’d to share my all-time top 5 Scriptures I to pray.

These prayers for children have given me a spring board for deep prayer and are perfect to take into your war room and do battle with!

Tip: My plan for prayer for my kids involves using prayer cards that I post around my home and leave in my Bible basket to pray during my time with the Lord. Here’s a sample one from our FREE Scripture Card Pack with war room prayers for your child:

Now on to 5 Scriptures I love to use as a prayer for my children!

Praying For Your Children Way #1: John 16:8

  • Conviction of Sin: We cannot monitor our children 24/7, neither is it our responsibility to play the Holy Spirit in his or her life. But we can entrust them to God and ask His Spirit to convict our children, guard their hearts and keep them from evil.”And He, when He comes, will convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment.” John 16:8

Praying For Your Children Way #2: Galatians 1:10

  • Free from the need of other’s approval: Growing up is tough. Peer pressure can be vicious and the desire to be significant doesn’t end when you turn 18. It is vital for our children to make choices the Lord’s plan and leading, NOT fears, insecurities, misplaced identity, or the desire for other’s favor.”Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.” Galatians 1:10

Praying For Your Children Way #3: Hebrews 11:6

  • Experience God as Rewarder: There are so many pitfalls for a young…or old… one to fall into. Drugs, alcohol, gambling, cutting, excessive gambling, sex, anorexia, and the list goes on. These things promise some sort of fulfillment, some sort of escape. It is important that our children learn to RUN to God as their Rewarder. Only He can satisfy and He promises to do just that!”It is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him.” Hebrews 11:6

Praying For Your Children Way #4: Joshua 1:8

  • Love for God’s word: God’s word is a lamp, a shelter, a rock and a sword. It could be compared to the best weapon ever– the kind that morphs into whatever you need at the time! If our children have a love for God’s word, we can be assured of their success.”Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” Joshua 1:8

Praying For Your Children Way #5: I Peter 5:6

  • Submission to God: A great man or woman, boy or girl is the one who humbles herself before God. True greatness is not found in climbing ladders but in stooping low in the hidden places. That’s a secret I want my children to know.”Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.” I Peter 5:6

I hope these Scriptures to pray over your children stir your heart and provide a starting place for bringing your children before the Throne.

I’ve found that having a strategy for prayer for my children is essential to actually praying… and is why I love using prayer cards!

Parents Prayers for Their Children: 7 Requests to God

Prayer For A Child On Drugs

In the Bible we read “Behold, children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb a reward.” (Psalm 127:3)  Children are one of the biggest ministries you will ever have.  Our precious little ones are a gift from God and we should be in prayer for them daily.  Here are 7 prayers that you can pray for your kids.

Heavenly Father,

You are the King of Kings and the Lord of Lords.  I pray that You watch over my children and use me as a vessel to showcase the love of Christ to them.  I pray for their salvation, Lord.  I pray that You will draw them to You so that they can understand how deep Your love is for them.  Give me time every day with them, Father.

Give me time where I can read the Bible with them and pray with them.  Lord, I want them to know You I know You.  It breaks my heart to know that some kids I see will reject you as they grow older, Lord.  Please let it not be so with mine!  I pray that they will continue to walk with You as they grow older.

  I love You, Father!  Amen

Gracious Father,

I pray for my child today.  He/she is struggling with the medications the doctors gave us.  Lord, the side effects are almost as bad as the sickness.  It hurts to see him/her in agony.  Father, You have the power to heal anything by just thinking it.

If it is Your will, please heal my son/daughter.  I want nothing more than my child to be happy and running around with their friends in the back yard again.  Please, Father, hear my prayer and petition now.  I love you, Lord!  May Your will be done this day.

Dear Lord,

Thank you for another day of life with my kids.  I pray that You will watch over them as they are in school today.  Give them a safe journey to and from school on the bus.  I pray that You will keep me safe everywhere I go, as well.

Bring me home safe to my children.  I pray that You will empower my kids to stand boldly for You as they encounter sin and depravity in school.

I pray that the joy they have for Jesus will shine bright today!  Thank you for my children, Father!  I love them and I love You!  Amen

“Lord, I pray that they fight against peer-pressure and stay away from drugs.”

Holy Father,

My teenagers are in one of the most difficult times in their lives.  I pray that they will stand up for what they believe in, Lord.  I pray that the Holy Spirit will convict them on every decision they make, so that they make good choices.

Lord, I pray that they fight against peer-pressure and stay away from drugs.  Lord, I pray that you watch over them and guide them safely today.  I pray my kids can learn the value suffering for the sake of Christ.  I pray that they make decisions today their faith in You.

Thank you for my kids, Lord!  Amen

Merciful Lord,

I pray for the purity of my children.  Lord, all of the hormonal changes are good because they are from You.  I pray that my kids will stay strong and wait until marriage before enjoying the blessings of the bedroom.

I pray that they abstain from all sexual situations so they stay healthy too.  So many diseases are being spread because of bad decisions today.  Lord, only You know what they will choose and I pray that they will choose wisely.

I praise You for my kids, Father!  Amen

Their Calling

Amazing Lord,

I pray that my children will heed the calling You have set for them.  I pray that they will follow where You lead, Father, whether it is in missions, music or the post office.

I pray that they will do everything whole-heartedly for You, so that You can be glorified.  I pray that they will find their strength in You daily as they spread the Good News of Jesus Christ to whoever they come in contact with.

Let Your will be done in their future calling, Father.  Amen

Future Families

Wonderful Father,

I pray for the future spouses of my kids.  I pray that You will provide my son with a Proverbs 31 woman and I pray that You provide my daughter with a man who is completely devoted to You that will love her and cherish her all of her days.

I pray for Your sovereignty in this, Lord, that my kids can start families of their own someday.  I pray for a love for them, Lord, as in the Song of Solomon.  I pray that my kids will cleave to their future spouses and look to You for guidance as they journey through marriage together.

You are so good to us all, Father, and I pray for Your blessings on my children.  Amen

There are many things to pray about when it comes to our kids.  Salvation is the most important thing that we can pray about for them.  I encourage you to pray that your kids will love Jesus all of their days.  Heaven is way too wonderful to miss out on.  To be in the presence of God for eternity will be amazing!  God bless you as you live a life worthy of the calling!

The power of prayer in addiction recovery

Prayer For A Child On Drugs

“Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you. Let me teach you, because I am humble and gentle at heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy to bear, and the burden I give you is light.”  – Matthew 11:28-30

Struggling with a substance abuse addiction takes its toll not only physically and emotionally, but spiritually as well.

That’s why Christian drug and alcohol treatment centers strongly believe in treating the person as a whole; mind, body and spirit.

How does prayer work in recovery? The power of prayer in recovery builds hope and provides the motivation and strength to fight the good fight against addiction.

Finding or restoring a relationship with God during rehab provides a powerful Helper while on the journey to life-long recovery. Strengthening a relationship with God through group and personal Bible studies, and fellowship with others through prayer groups, provides an unexplainable sense of peace and boundless hope. In its essence, faith in recovery needs to be accompanied by actions.

Prayer Heals

“Jesus stopped and called them. ‘What do you want me to do for you?’ he asked. ‘Lord,’ they answered, ‘we want our sight.’ Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.”  -Matthew 20:32-34

The healing power of prayer is a proven fact that scientific and medical research equally support.  There are documented studies that prayer has healed many serious diseases much to the puzzlement of medical practitioners. The power of prayer is a mighty God-given gift that can heal addiction too.

No one is without weakness; no one. How we react to that weakness, however, makes all the difference in the world.  Turning to drugs or alcohol is the easy way out and not the reaction God desires.

God offers unlimited strength to those who turn to Him in prayer; releasing control and allowing Him to take charge of that weakness – that addiction – will extinguish its power and hold on an addict’s life.

There are many more benefits gained through genuine faith and prayer:

  • You will never be alone in the battle
  • Relief from fear and anxiety
  • Balance of mind, body and spirit
  • Experiencing pure joy which increases the effectiveness of treatment during rehab
  • Inspiration to do the work necessary to achieve a new life free of addiction
  • Greater mental focus
  • Diminished stress levels
  • Strength against addiction triggers
  • Reduced rate of relapse
  • An increase of dopamine levels in the brain generating the serenity once manufactured by drug use
  • Absence of depression
  • A 24/7 Helper to guide you to making the right choices while accepting what cannot be changed

How to Pray

“I lift up my eyes to the hills—where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.”  – Psalm 121:1-2

Don’t let your loved one suffer. 1-888-882-1456

Think of prayer as a conversation between you and God. Talk to Him as if you were talking with a friend. Prayer does not have to be a script; filled with ‘thee’ and ‘thou.’ God wants to hear from you – personally.

A good guideline is to:

  1. Start with some praise, tell Him how you care for Him and trust in Him alone
  2. Thank Him for the blessings in your life; big and small
  3. Ask Him for healing from your addiction and share the desires of your heart with Him
  4. Ask for forgiveness
  5. Ask for strength and protection against the evil powers of addiction

The 12-Step Recovery and Prayer

“God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference” – Reinhold Niebuhr

A.A. and N.A. believe deeply in utilizing the power of prayer for recovery and healing. A countless number of addicts have achieved successful long-term recovery with the strength gained through praying to God.

Each of the twelve steps is complemented by a prayer which can be incorporated into personal prayer time. Reciting the Prayer of Serenity during A.A. meetings is customary and a good prayer to find strength on a daily basis during life-long recovery (what the Serenity Prayer means).

Believe in the Power of Prayer for Recovery

“The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy. My purpose is to give them a rich and satisfying life.” –John 10:10

Drugs and alcohol are not your friends. They are the enemy – the thief – that is intent on destroying lives and families. God promises unconditional love, protection from your enemies, a Helper to guide you and strength to carry you through. All you have to do is believe.

Thank you that you are bringing my child back from the land of the enemy and that they will be in their right mind and sound in body.

I thank you that my child is whole and redeemed from every evil work and that they have complete control over their body. I believe that my child is set free and delivered because I have called upon the name of the Lord. Keep me in perfect peace as I wait for my appointed time with my child. In Jesus name Amen.

Prayer #9

Lord, I bring my child to You with such a heavy heart knowing that the precious child You blessed me with has become caught up with drugs.. and their life is spiralling control. Help us Lord I pray to know what to do and show us how we can help to stem and to stop these drug-related activities.

Wherever the blame for this situation lies.. I pray Lord that You would help us to address it so that our child is able to be freed from this drug-related trap. We pray in the name of Jesus that You would step into this situation and whatever it takes.. I pray that You would convict our child of the need to call out to You for help – for You alone have the power to help and heal their life.

Give me the strength I pray to support my child.. in prayer or therapy or any other way so that they may be enabled to leave this drug-related past behind.. and step out into the future having been freed from this bondage. And help I pray.. for me to trust in Your many precious promises and not lean on my own understanding. This I ask in Jesus name, Amen.

Prayer #10

Loving Lord Jesus we lift up all those who are suffering today from some form of addiction to drugs – whether they are prescribed medicines from a doctor or unlicensed drugs that have been gained illicitly – all addiction is detrimental to health and wholeness and Lord we want to lift up all who are addicted in one way or another.

Lord .. we believe that You were sent to heal those that are broken and damaged, crushed and hurting – in bondage to drugs or addicted to some form of medication.. and we plead Your grace and mercy over such people and pray that You would meet each man or woman at their particular point of need – and deliver each one.

Raise up those that would stand in the gap in prayer.. and bring friends and relatives who will be supportive to those that need to be liberated from their drug dependence or delivered from some form of addiction. Into Your hands we commit each one and thank and praise You for all that You are going to do in these lives – in Jesus name we pray, Amen.

Prayer #11

Lord it breaks my heart that my beautiful daughter has somehow become involved with drugs and she has almost become a different person with her mood swings, depression and anger. Lord this is not what I want for my daughter and pray that You would help her to reverse this terrible addiction, which has had such a devastating impact on all our lives.

We love her so much and I know that Your love for her exceeds our own (if that is possible) and I pray that in Your grace and mercy You would help her to break free from this addiction to drugs and medication.. and that You would help us to give her the help and support she needs during this most difficult time.

Give me wisdom I pray to know what to do and how to help with her. I feel at a loss to know what to do but my eyes are on You Lord. Visit us all with Your peace I pray and restore the joy and happiness we once had – this I ask in Jesus name, Amen.
