Blessings On A Christian Wedding

26 Beautiful Wedding Blessings And Prayers

Blessings On A Christian Wedding

It’s a great gift and blessing from Heaven to find real love. Wedding unites people, unites their hearts and souls. According to wedding traditions, at the ceremony or reception, one of the guests says wedding blessings to a young couple.

Nowadays it’s not obligatory to be done by religious prayer, as we tend to think, but possibly just a wish for newlyweds’ happiness and prosperity. Here, we’ve picked up everything you need to know about wedding blessings.

You’ll be amazed!

Firstly, let’s answer the question “what exactly is a blessing?” A blessing is mercy, benefit, approval. In general, people used to say the blessing before or after a meal, or when they favored someone or something.

They mostly appeal to a High Power, asking for the guard, protection, health, and peace. Speaking about wedding blessings, they don’t differ much. We also ask for all the best, but precisely for the bride and groom, for their marriage, well-being and a bright future.

Traditionally, a blessing is given during the ceremony or at the reception before dinner. Depending on customs and couple’s preferences, it’s said either by a religious leader or by a family member. Generally, it goes before the ceremony to grace all the guests, to invite holiness to the venue. But at the end, the blessing is to pray for God’s approval of the new marriage.

At the reception, you might say wedding blessings to a family member, father’s pray to son, sister’s blessing, etc.

However, they all vary in length, it could be long marriage quotes or just a short saying, but they all have care, kindness, and goodwill in common.

Religious wedding blessings are those which appeal to God. They could be taken from the Bible as a quote, or be simply directed to divine forces. For example, English traditional vows are usually written on the base of the Bible but don’t sound very pious.

Thus, we picked up the best examples of Christian wedding blessings:

May God bless, keep and guide you the rest of your lives. Happy Wedding Day!

Rejoice in your love for each other! God bless you now and always.

God bless this marriage and may your love for each other continue to grow.

May God bless the two of you abundantly in love, joy, and happiness.

We are praying that God guides you in your new adventure. May God pour out blessings on you two.

Therefore what God has joined together, let no one separate. Mark 10:9

Rejoice in your love for each other! God bless you now and always.

As you become one in Christ, we wish you more joy and blessings.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear. I John 4:18

We are praying that God guides you in your new adventure. May God pour out blessings on you two.

Jewish people take wedding ceremonies seriously. They pay a lot of attention to it and make efforts to keep and cherish their customs. One of them is ShevaB’rachot, Seven Blessings. Jewish wedding blessings are the pray for the bride’s and groom’s joy, companionship, love, and peace. Let’s have a look at some examples:

A good marriage is at least 80 percent good luck in finding the right person at the right time. The rest is trust.

Here’s to health and prosperity, To you and all your posterity. And them that doesn’t drink with sincerity, That they may be damned for all eternity!

May all your hopes and dreams come true, and may the memory of this day become dearer with each passing year

No doubt, there are families and young couples who are not really close to any religion. Some statistics say their number dominates. Still, people want to say something warm, cheerful and motivative to the newlyweds. Speaking of non-religious wedding blessing, they are similar to the religious ones, but you just won’t hear the name of God in it.

When you say wish or blessing, it’s crucial to be yourself, to feel at ease and speak from your heart. So, in case you are not a member of any confession, don’t feel uncomfortable and choose one of the following timeless wedding blessings:

“May the years ahead be filled with lasting joy.”

“May today be the beginning of a long, happy life together.”

“Best wishes on this wonderful journey, as you build your new lives together.”

“Wishing you joy, love and happiness on your wedding day and as you begin your new life together.”

“Wishing you a lifetime of love and happiness.”

“Congratulations on the most important union of your life! May you two always find love and hope in the company of one another.

“My best wishes to two very exceptional people. Nothing makes me prouder than to tell the world that both of you are my friends. Enjoy a happy, fulfilling married life!”

“Here’s to you two—wishing my two favorite lovebirds a lifetime of happiness and love. Congrats on a beautiful wedding!”

“Warmest wishes to a fantastic couple. Here’s to a lifetime of adventure, love, and happiness! Congratulations on your matrimony.”

” I hope that every day you two spend together is as blissful and love-filled as possible. Here’s to one of my all-time favorite couples! Congratulations.”

Here is a look at some of the best Christian wedding prayers for the bride and groom.

Prayer #1

Heavenly Father, We come to you asking your blessing and favor on (Bride Name & Groom Name). We pray for patience, tolerance and understanding as they begin to adjust to wedded life. May theirs be a home where there is much joy, laughter, support and an atmosphere of acceptance and safety.

We pray that they will always respect each other and may both of them enjoy the freedom to become all that you want them to be individually and as a family unit. Grant them courage to choose God’s instructions in a world that often abandons these. May their trust in you increase. May their home be filled with your peace.

We ask this in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Prayer #2

Dear Lord Jesus,
Thank you for this beautiful day. You have fulfilled the desire of our hearts to be together in this life.

We pray that your blessing will always rest upon our home; that joy, peace and contentment would dwell within us as we live together in unity, and that all who enter our home may experience the strength of your love.

Father, help us to follow and serve you with an ever growing commitment because of our union. Guide us into greater love and sacrifice as we care for each other’s needs, knowing you will care for us.

May we always be as keenly aware of your presence as we sense it today on our wedding day. And may our devotion in marriage be a radiant reflection of your love for us.

In the name of Jesus, our Savior, we pray.

Prayer #3

Most gracious God, we give you thanks for your tender love in sending Jesus Christ to come among us, to be born of a human mother, and to make the way of the cross to be the way of life.

We thank you, also, for consecrating the union of man and woman in his Name.

By the power of your Holy Spirit, pour out the abundance of your blessing upon this man and this woman.

Defend them from every enemy.

Lead them into all peace.

Let their love for each other be a seal upon their hearts, a mantle about their shoulders, and a crown upon their foreheads.

Bless them in their work and in their companionship; in their sleeping and in their waking; in their joys and in their sorrows; in their life and in their death.

Finally, in your mercy, bring them to that table where your saints feast for ever in your heavenly home; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever.

Prayer #4

Hand in hand, we come before you, O Lord.

Hand in hand, we are stepping out in faith.

We, who are gathered here, ask that you would take this couple into your hands. Help them, O Lord, to keep firm in the commitments they have just made.

Guide them, O God, as they become a family, as they each change through the years. May they be flexible as they are faithful.

And Lord, help us all to be your hands if there be need. Strengthen, tenderly all of our commitments, through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Prayer #5

May your love and deep respect for each other sustain throughout the years to come. May your life together flow with peace and harmony. May your vows be fully realized and may you realize their own true nature together.

May you both promise to do what you think to be right; speak what you think to be the truth; help others in what is fair, accept your mistakes without excuses for them. May you both accept full responsibility for your actions and reactions.

May sincerity of this resolution give you both strength to fulfill your duties towards yourself and others. Amen.

Blessed is one who comes in the name of Love.

Praying for victory in your marriage is an important part of gaining success in your daily life as husband and wife. Here is one couple’s prayer titled ‘Shield of Faith’ as they go on to have their newly form relationship bonded.

Irish Marriage and Irish Wedding Blessings

Blessings On A Christian Wedding
Gaelic Matters > Irish Wedding Blessings

Irish Marriage and Irish Wedding Blessings reveal the Celtic take on love-often sensitive or funny and sometimes both at the same time. Below is a list of short Irish blessings inspired by Cupid.

In general, Irish people do not formality and there is no set way to give a blessing. It's about choosing the right time. (Some of these blessings can also serve as wedding toasts.) You may choose to say give a blessing quietly to one or both of the married couple or in a more public setting.

Some couples will also put a Celtic wedding blessing on their wedding invitations, place settings at the reception or as part of the wedding ceremony itself.

A word of warning, I include an approximate pronunciation of the versions of the Gaelic blessings below. Just remember that 'ch' in Gaelic is the 'ch' in 'loch', not as in chalk. If you can't manage that, pronounce as a 'k' to be understood.

40 Powerful Blessings to Pray over Your Marriage

Blessings On A Christian Wedding

Marriage is a gift – an amazing blessing from God.  Yet often, the greatest gifts in life are not always cherished the way they should be.  Maybe because life gets busy, or we get hurried and distracted.  Maybe because we start to take one another for granted.  Or we disagree and let resentments hang on longer than they should.

Life gets hard.

The baggage we bring along from our past doesn’t help much either.  What worked for us as two individuals, coping with the everyday stresses of life, may not work so well when joined as “one.

”  We spin our wheels comparing our own marriage to the next one over, complaining about the problems; falsely thinking it might propel the other to action.  We long for brighter tomorrows, but instead get stuck, in regret and hurt.  We begin to drift away.

And sadly, many times, we start looking for the nearest door marked “Exit.”

There’s a battle over marriages today, and the enemy would love nothing more than to destroy yours, and to

Don't let him win.

The enemy's aim – to destroy.  God’s aim – to build up.

In all of the talk about marriage, defending our views, or pointing out differences, we have to ask ourselves one question…have we prayed?  I mean, really prayed, consistently, over time?  And if we’re not, then who is?

God promises in Isaiah 55:11 that His word will not return empty, without accomplishing great things.

There’s no magic formula in praying verses and words, but there is power through the Spirit of God.  And there’s power in His Truth to bring forgiveness, healing, renewal, and restoration – no matter how bad things may seem. His reach is big.  His love is huge.  His grace covers all.

Prayer + God’s Word = Power – the pathway for Him to do miraculous things.
