Anyone who knows me knows that I love to sing. One of the greatest ways to worship the Lord is in song. We can find many songs to the Lord in the Bible as well as guidelines, reasons and examples of worship.

As we praise and worship we must always remember who is at the heart of our worship. Even when there is no music, we praise and worship our awesome heavenly Father and His Son, Jesus.

Here are twenty encouraging Bible verses about worship

A Call to True Worship

Psalms 8:1 O LORD, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

Psalms 29:2 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; worship the LORD in the splendor of holiness.

Psalms 95:6 Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!

Psalms 99:5 Exalt the LORD our God; worship at his footstool! Holy is he!

John 4:21-24 Jesus said to her, “Woman, believe me, the hour is coming when neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem will you worship the Father.

You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.

But the hour is coming, and is now here, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for the Father is seeking such people to worship him. God is spirit, and those who worship him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Reasons for Worship

Deuteronomy 12:5-7 But you shall seek the place that the LORD your God will choose all your tribes to put his name and make his habitation there.

There you shall go, and there you shall bring your burnt offerings and your sacrifices, your tithes and the contribution that you present, your vow offerings, your freewill offerings, and the firstborn of your herd and of your flock.

And there you shall eat before the LORD your God, and you shall rejoice, you and your households, in all that you undertake, in which the LORD your God has blessed you.

Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God has highly exalted him [Jesus] and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

James 4:8 Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you…

Revelation 5:9 And they sang a new song, saying, “Worthy are you to take the scroll and to open its seals, for you were slain, and by your blood you ransomed people for God from every tribe and language and people and nation,

Revelation 4:11 “Worthy are you, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they existed and were created.”

Examples of Worship

Exodus 33:9-10 Then Moses entered the tent, the pillar of cloud would descend and stand at the entrance of the tent, and the LORD would speak with Moses. And when all the people saw the pillar of cloud standing at the entrance of the tent, all the people would rise up and worship, each at his tent door.

Psalms 100:4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving, and his courts with praise! Give thanks to him; bless his name!

Romans 12:1-2  I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship. Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

I have been crucified with Christ

Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.

Hebrews 5:7 In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence.

Worship in Song

Exodus 15:20-21 Then Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a tambourine in her hand, and all the women went out after her with tambourines and dancing. And Miriam sang to them:  “Sing to the LORD, for he has triumphed gloriously;the horse and his rider he has thrown into the sea.”

Psalms 59:16 But I will sing of your strength; I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning. For you have been to me a fortress and a refuge in the day of my distress.

Psalms 63:3-4 The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

Psalms 66:4  All the earth worships you and sings praises to you; they sing praises to your name.” Selah

Psalms 150 Praise the LORD! Praise God in his sanctuary; praise him in his mighty heavens! Praise him for his mighty deeds; praise him according to his excellent greatness! Praise him with trumpet sound; praise him with lute and harp! Praise him with tambourine and dance; praise him with strings and pipe! Praise him with sounding cymbals; praise him with loud clashing cymbals! Let everything that has breath praise the LORD! Praise the LORD!

Worship God: prayers and ceremonies

Prayer of Worship to God

Worship of God is very common in almost all known religions. Both modern and pagan, which today is almost forgotten. In order to properly conduct worship in each religion developed special rites and rituals.

Christian worship

It Should be noted that worship of God is very common in our country, where the majority of believers of the population profess Christianity. The word “worship” comes to us from the Greek language. It is frequently used on the pages of the old Testament. Especially in the sense of “to fall or bow down before anyone or anything”.

Worship of God, in the broad sense of the term, is an expression of a person's inner feelings, spiritual condition. This is a purely individual action that a Christian can perform at any place. He do not even have to go to Church.

But there are mandatory for the believers of a form of worship during religious holidays. Then you need to gather in the temple to pray and ask God for help.

But even during the religious holidays in the forefront is individual praise and worship of God. Ultimately, each independently pray and turn to God.

Quality Christian worship

Even in the New Testament prophets, it was noted that Christian worship must come from within the person. And mandatory to have two important qualities.

First, it is necessary to worship in truth. It has nothing to do with your physical condition and position. But only the inner essence. For the implementation of worship must be born again, to believe that without the Holy spirit residing in each person, to offer prayer makes no sense.

The Second important quality is that the mind of the believer must be completely focused on God. You need to forget about the ordinary things of the world, completely to disconnect from them. Only then the power of worship to God will be sufficient.

Also do not forget that worship is possible only with a pure and repentant heart, that is, only after confession and absolution of sins. The glorification and worship of God initially comes from the heart, so it can not be released of sin.

Worship in truth means that man has to determine for themselves who is God. For this it is necessary carefully to study the Bible. This is the only reliable source, in which the Lord fully appears to man.

External behavior

It is Worth noting that external behavior in matters of worship plays virtually no role. In Christianity, no matter in what position the person is when she prays or goes to God. He can sit, stand, lie down. No strict order.

There are certain rules when visiting the temple. But they are easily doable. So, the girl at the entrance to a Christian sanctuary should cover their head with a scarf or any other headgear. Man, on the contrary, in front of the Cathedral is obliged to remove the cap.

Any requirements for the person who decided to pray and seek God at home, not at all.

Prayer

One of the most common ways is through prayer. Worship of God produced in the form of multiple repetitions of the same sacred text. Prayer is a very important part of the life of a believer. With its help, he can reach out to the Creator, I believe Orthodox Christians.

The Prayer performed not only on holidays or when a person needs help immediately. Prayers also are public, which are regularly spoken at the General meeting of the congregation or religious holidays.

So, in the Orthodox tradition of regular prayer are often made without public worship. They recognized the collective prayers.

Types of prayer

Prayer can be divided into several varieties, which are clearly visible even maloveroyatno person.

Some of the most common prayers of praise. There are also thanksgiving (when what people asked for in the Church, true), repentance of a believer who needs to receive absolution or to beg forgiveness for his actions. As well as petitionary and intercessory. When I ask God about health and longevity or appeal with a specific request.

Praise prayer

Perhaps the first extant prayer is praise. She was well known to our ancestors since ancient times. Laudatory prayers are not always addressed directly to God. There are many texts which ascends praise to Jesus Christ or mother of God.

Penitential prayers

A Classic example of a penitential prayer of the 50th Psalm in the New Testament. Also to this species include the prayer of the publican (it is an ancient tax collector and tax), and the prayers read after confession for the remission of sins, or the Great penitential Canon of Saint Andrew of Crete.

Petitionary and intercessory prayers are fundamentally different from one another. If in the first case, the believer asks directly for themselves, the second asks for the other person. Typically, your relative or friend.

In order to properly perform the prayer, observe a few simple rules.

The Custom of praying standing came to us from the Jews, however, if you for some reason cannot stand (for example, sick and feel bad), then you can sit during the Church service.

From the same people borrowed kneeling before God.

In early Christianity it was also decided to stretch out our hands to the sky during prayer, as did Moses. However, over time, this custom has disappeared. In modern Christian rituals hands up raises only a priest when leading the Liturgy.

Custom to pray, and even to be in the temple with his head uncovered, came into Christianity from pagan practices. However, he somewhat modified. Women, on the contrary, strictly forbidden to remove his or her hat in Church or during a prayer.

Church

Place of worship to the gods in ancient times was the temple. In the broadest sense of the word, is a pagan temple. Is a place of worship for the Gentiles in which were installed the idols that were worshipped.

In this case, if about Western pagan temples is no evidence that pagan temples were the Eastern Slavs, no. It could be a sacred place, not a specific structure.

Directly in the temple entrance was allowed only to the priest and his entourage, the associates who help conduct the sacred ceremony. The place of worship of pagan gods was often sacred.

In modern Russia, the most Orthodox Christians go to Church, there to perform a rite of worship. The temple is a religious building that is specifically designed to hold religious ceremonies and worship.

Usually in the architectural symbolism of the temple, and the interior can be traced to the view of believers on the world. In former times, primarily in the Middle ages, the Church was still an important social place. It often was the only place not under the open sky, where you could gather a large number of people to solve their pressing issues.

At the same time the temples wore a memorial event, and in some countries was a refuge. Neither the police nor military could not enter the Holy building without special permission of the Abbot. Therefore, in the walls of the temple were often able to hide for long periods of time political opponents of the current government or unjustly accused of crimes to citizens.

In the Orthodox tradition, the main sanctuary is the Church. It has an altar, to which only a limited number of individuals. the status of the building features as Catholics and Christians. The altar is made such rite, as the Eucharist. This is the consecration in a special way of bread and wine. In the Catholic worldview thus believers join the body of Christ (bread) and his blood (guilt).

But in Protestantism such a reverent attitude to this rite there. So the temple often acts as a space for General meetings and prayers, but not religious rites. Some modern Protestant churches refuse to, preferring to rent a small POM…

Difference Between Prayer and Worship

Prayer of Worship to God

Prayer and Worship are two words that are often confused due to the appearing similarity between them when in truth, there are differences between them when it comes to their meanings and connotations. According to Jesus, one can proceed from prayer to worship.

It is interesting to note that prayer and worship can go together. In fact, they are done together to bring success in the life of the doer. This is the belief in every religion of the world. It is generally believed that worship sans prayer is not capable of producing the desired fruits.

Let us see what more we can find about each term.

What is Prayer?

Prayer refers to communication. Prayer can mean confession. Prayer literally means talking to God or in simple words thanking God.

It does not require any particular procedure to be followed as it is a mere conversation with the God. Prayer embodies a creature’s interest. So, in that case, it has a selfish nature, un worship.

Prayer is totally a spontaneous expression of the attitude of the person towards the spirit or God.

Prayer leads to spiritual progress. It is spirituality. In other words, prayer leads to spiritual accomplishment. Prayers lead us to the attainment of our goals.

It is generally believed that prayers get more power by repetitions. Prayer is the breath of spirit life. Prayer is normally done or performed on a regular basis and involves chanting and singing.

Prayer does not need the guidance of a priest. It can be pronounced individually.

What is Worship?

Worship basically means the religious praise and devotion. It results in the honoring of God. In other words, worship is an expression of love for God and involves mere praising of the God.

Un prayers, worship does not mean confession, and it is not a conversation with the God. Worship is a lifestyle, and it requires a certain procedure to be followed. Un prayers, worship is not selfish too.

In worship, we are only showing our gratitude to God.

Worship is ritualism. Worship leads to ritual progress. In other words, worship leads to a ritual accomplishment. An important fact about worship is that worship does not accumulate power just by repeating them. Worship is a technique of detachment from the routine life. It is a way to deviate from the monotony of life.

Worship is a transforming experience in which the finite approaches the infinite. Moreover, worship is not performed on a regular basis. It is done during certain religious festivals in the case of a few religions Hinduism. Worship does not involve chanting. It involves action and performance.

On the other hand, singing can form part of worship, but worship, on the whole, does not consist of the act of singing. Worship sometimes needs the guidance of the priest.

What is the difference between Prayer and Worship?

• Worship denotes religious praise and devotion. It results in the honoring of God. Worship is an expression of love for God. But, prayer refers to communication with God. It literally means talking to God or in simple words thanking God.

• Prayer can mean confession, but not worship.

• One of the primary differences between prayer and worship is that worship requires a certain procedure to be followed, but prayer does not require any such procedure to follow.

• Worship is ritualism, whereas prayer is spirituality. Prayer leads to spiritual progress. Worship leads to ritual progress. This is another important difference between prayer and worship.

• Worship is not selfish as we are showing our gratitude to God. On the other hand, prayer embodies a creature’s interest. So, in that case, it has a selfish nature, un worship.

• It is generally believed that prayers get more power by repetitions, but worship does not accumulate power just by repeating them.

• Prayer is normally done or performed on a regular basis, but worship is not performed on a regular basis. It is done during certain religious festivals in some religions.

• Another important difference between prayer and worship is that prayer involves chanting. On the other hand, worship does not involve chanting. It involves action and performance.

• Prayer involves singing as well. On the other hand, singing can form part of worship but, worship on the whole, does not consist of the act of singing.

• Worship sometimes needs the guidance of the priest, but prayer does not need the guidance of a priest. It can be pronounced individually.

These are the differences between the two words, namely, prayer and worship.

10 Christian Songs That Can Become Your Prayer To God

Prayer of Worship to God

I love listening to Christian music and oftentimes find songs that speak to me. There is something wonderful about songs that give praise to God and just make you want to lift your hands and thank Him. However, there are many songs out there that I have come to find to be prayers.

These songs' prayers touch my heart in a way that makes me recognize the depth and pain of my soul. And makes me realize the prayers that I haven't given to God. So take a deep breath, grab some tissues, and take a seat. God is about to speak to you through these beautiful songs…

1. “Give Me Faith” by Elevation Worship

Give me faith to trust what You say,That You're good and Your love is greatI'm broken inside, I give You my life.

This song is a surrender to God. Sometimes we need to stop and recognize how great God is and how our lives should be surrendered to Him.

We must ask Him to soften our hearts, open our eyes, cleanse us, and put us back together. I listen to this song often in my weakest times when I know my faith is diminished.

I soon come to recognize that I am broken and that's OK but I must continue to walk daily in my faith.

2. “Great Plans” by Cloverton.

I know you're scared but the voices in your head, will send you mine instead; they'll say “Great plans I have for you.”

I fell in love with this song years ago and although it is slow, it is a truly moving song. This is not a prayer song but is rather a song intended to be God speaking to us.

Sometimes when I am in a rough patch and don't really know what God is doing in my life, I sit down and listen to this song and the tears start rolling in. God has great plans for us and sometimes this is hard to recognize.

His plans are for us to prosper. Our future is in His hands and we must recognize this daily.

3. “I Will Look Up” by Elevation Worship.

I will look up for there is none above YouI will bow down to tell You that I need YouJesus Lord of all

This song is another prayer of surrender. Every single worry and doubt we must lay at our Father's feet. We must trust that God has everything and everyone in His hands and that He is fully working in our lives.

Our prayer should be to look up to God rather than looking out to the world and bowing down to God rather than bowing down to those around us.

Sometimes we get caught up in the world but must always come back to this prayer of surrender and commitment.

4. “Set a Fire” by Will Reagan & United Pursuit

Set a fire down in my soul
That I can't contain, that I can't control
I want more of you God

This song is my anthem prayer. It's repetitive but truly speaks the deepest desires of my heart. We can get so caught up in this world and become dry. We struggle to maintain our faith and to show the world love. That's why we must ask the Lord to set a fire in our souls. To ignite our passions and love for Him and to have us live a life that is worth spreading.

Sometimes when I listen to this song, I to think of my favorite place in the world or a place that I greatly miss. I then picture God's enormous love and grace and often get chills at the fact that my favorite place is nothing compared to the place of God's love. Wherever you are in life, God will meet you there and so will His love.

And in His love is the best place you could be.

5. “Lord I'm Ready Now” by Plumb.

Oh Lord I'm ready nowAll the walls are downTime is running outAnd I wanna make this countI ran away from youAnd did what I wanted toBut I don't wanna let you downOh Lord I'm ready now

God continually waits for us and calls out to us yet we need to recognize that our time is limited. We have to be ready for the Lord now before it is too late. This song is one that asks for forgiveness.

We often run away from God and then regret it. However, due to Jesus's sacrifice, God will always allow us to run back into His arms.

If you are at a point in your life where you've run away from God, maybe it is time to pray this prayer and run back to the Lord.

6. “Holy Spirit” by Francesca Battistelli

Holy Spirit, You are welcome hereCome flood this place and fill the atmosphereYour glory, God, is what our hearts long forTo be overcome by Your presence, Lord

When worshiping God, we must always ask the Holy Spirit to come in and move us. This song does exactly that, inviting the Holy Spirit in to touch us and change our hearts.

Being in God's presence is the most serene, beautiful feeling and I often feel most enveloped by God when I am surrounded by nature or surrounded by a congregation worshiping the Lord. Welcome God into your hearts and let Him touch you.

Don't be afraid to get emotional or to feel moved. Those moments can sometimes be the most touching moments of your life.

7. “Give Us Clean Hands” by Chris Tomlin

Oh give us clean hands and give us pure heartsLet us not lift our souls to another

Oh God let this be a generation that seeksWho seeks Your face, oh God of Jacob

Whenever I listen to this song, I come to recognize the sins I am bounded by and the sins the world is bounded by. I recognize that I must ask God for clean hands and a pure heart. I must ask God to free me of my bondage that has been holding me back.

Our generation is stuck in a place of bondage. However, we must continually ask God to turn this generation into one that seeks Him. Analyze your prayers today.

Are you asking God for things you want or are you asking Him for forgiveness of your sins and for redemption in this world?

8. “Fall Afresh” by Bethel Music

Spirit of the living God come fall afresh on meCome wake me from my sleepBlow through the caverns of my soulPour in me to overflow

Are you asleep? I know at points that I am. At points, I am not an active Christian seeking God and striving to love others. This song is a declaration to exactly that. To have God to wake us up and move in us so that we may love Him and love others more. Ask God to awaken your soul. To want to know more of Him and build a passion in your heart to love.

9. “Lead Me to the Cross” by Hillsong United

Lead me to the crossWhere Your love poured outBring me to my kneesLord I lay me downRid me of myselfI belong to YouLead me, lead me to the cross

Once in a while, I come to forget the sacrifice God made for us by sending His son to die on the cross for our sins. The ultimate sacrifice was made by Jesus Christ who died on the cross to forgive the whole world of their sins. If that sacrifice was not made, we would not be forgiven.

We would live in a world of great despair. Thus we must ask the Lord to lead us to the cross. To help us recognize His sacrifice and to treasure it in our hearts. To experience His love and truly understand it.

We belong to the Lord who saved our lives and often, we should pray to understand His love and sacrifice for us.

10. “Thy Will” by Hillary Scott & The Scott Family

Sometimes I gotta stop, remember that you're God and I am not so

Thy will be done

This song has been on my heart so much recently. It is a cry to God to help us comprehend the fact that our life is not ours, but it is His. Thus we must pray that His will be done in our lives. We must lay down every burden we have and give it to the Lord. His plans are for us and He will do good in our lives.

He laid down His life for us, so we must lay our lives down for Him. Tears come to my eyes when I listen to this song because I know I don't give my life fully to God because I to control where I am going. But I must let Him take control and trust that He is good and His promises are good.

Lay down your life today for the One who laid down His life for you.

To everyone who is struggling and full of worry, pray these prayers today so that you may be filled with God's love and blessings. He hears you and He is for you.
