Prayer For Those That Are Seeking Godly Wisdom

5 Steps to Increase in Godly Wisdom

Prayer For Those That Are Seeking Godly Wisdom

When we look to our Savior’s example of how we should love, we see that “Jesus increased in wisdom” (Luke 2:52).

A proverb that is a constant challenge to me reflects the importance of such growth stating, “The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on foolishness” (Proverbs 15:14).

Put another way, an intelligent person purposefully seeks knowledge, but fools nibble randomly, vacantly chewing on words and ideas that have no value, no flavor, and no nutrition.

What are you and I feeding our minds? Are we heeding this biblical warning about the danger of “garbage in, garbage out?” May we purposefully seek knowledge and guard against spending precious time on things that have no value. I know that I have wished and prayer for God’s knowledge and change in an area of my life only to realize two or three years have passed without my actively taking His advice and seeking it.

I once learned from a friend a practical and fun way to set goals and remind myself to seek God’s wisdom and to guard my mind with His truth. This practice has given me a path to follow and ensure that I am following after God with my whole heart.

1. Each year, I create five files

You’re probably puzzled as this doesn’t sound so spiritual. But, hang with me!

2. Aim at expertise

Next, select five areas you’d to become an expert in and label a file for each of them. A word of caution: choose areas from the spiritual realm.

Remember the proverb? You don’t want to feed on pursuits that have no value. Instead choose topics of eternal value.

To help you determine those five areas, answer the questions, “What do you want to be known for?” and “What topics do you want your name associated with?”

I have a friend, Lois, for instance, whose name many people associate with prayer. Whenever we needed someone at church to teach on prayer, lead a day of prayer for our women, or open a meeting with worship prayer, everyone automatically thinks of her.

For more than 20 years, she has been studying what the Bible teaches about prayer, looking closely at the men and women of the Bible who prayed, reading about prayer, and praying. Prayer is definitely one of her areas of expertise, one of her five files.

Another friend is known for her knowledge of the Bible. Whenever the women at church needed someone to lead a survey of the Bible or give an overview of the prophets, we would call on Betty. Still another friend speaks to church groups about time management. These three women have become experts.

Through the years, I’ve compiled a list of the files that the students in my “Woman After God’s Own Heart” class kept. Here’s some of the topics to help stimulate your thinking.

They range from the practical — hospitality, health, child-raising, homemaking, Bible-study methods — to the theological — attributes of God, faith, fruit of the Spirit.

They include areas for ministry — biblical counseling, teaching, serving, women’s ministry — as well as areas of character — the devotional life, heroes of the faith, love, virtues of godliness.

They center around lifestyles — singleness, parenting, organization, widowhood, the pastor’s home — and zero in on the personal — holiness, self-control, submission, contentment. Wouldn’t you love to sit in on the classes these women may teach in ten years — or read the books they may eventually write? After all, such personal spiritual growth is all about preparation for ministry. It’s about filling yourself up first so that you have something to give in ministry!

3. Fill the files

Never let months or years pass with half-hearted hope that something with change in your life or you will grow closer to God without any preparation and input on your part. You will be overjoyed and amazed when you look back over your subjects and realize that God has worked in you, growing your confidence that His truth will never leave nor forsake you.

4. Watch yourself grow

Start putting information into your files. They’ll get fat as you diligently search and collect everything on your subject…articles, books, specialized magazines, and news clippings…attend seminars…teach on the subject(s)…spend time with those who are the best in these areas, picking their brains…seek and sharpen your expertise.

Most importantly, read your Bible to see firsthand what God says about your areas of interest. After all, His thoughts are the primary knowledge you want. I even code my Bible.

Pink highlights passages of interest to women, and you’re probably not surprised to learn that one of my five files is “Women.” Besides marking those passages in pink, I’ve put a “W” in the margin beside them.

Anything in my Bible that relates to women, wives, mothers, homemakers, or women of the Bible has a “W” beside it. I did the same thing with “T” for teaching, “TM” for time management, etc.

Once you pick your areas and set up your code, I guarantee you’ll be so excited and motivated that you’ll wake up before the alarm clock rings eager to open God’s Word, pen in hand, to look for His wisdom about the areas where you want wisdom!

5. Spread your wings

Personal spiritual growth is all about preparation for ministry. It’s about filling yourself up first so that you have something to give. As you continue your quest for knowledge about five spiritual topics, remember that you are working on this personal growth in order to minister to others.

As my praying friend Lois filled her mind with the things of God and her lifelong study of prayer, she then allowed that fullness to fill others in ministry. Serving others means being full of things eternal, things worth sharing.

Our fullness becomes the overflow that is our ministry. It’s what we have to give and pass on to others. As a dear mentor constantly drilled into me, “Nothing going in equals nothing going out.

” May Jesus be living and shining you and me!

Top 7 Bible Verses About Wisdom

Prayer For Those That Are Seeking Godly Wisdom

The Bible has so much wisdom in it that it’s hard to decide on only 7 Bible verses.  What Bible verses would you include about wisdom?

Wisdom Literature

The Bible contains so much wisdom in it but there are specific books that concentrate on wisdom Proverbs but we could include the Book of Psalms, Ecclesiastes and even the Book of Job but what is wisdom according to human definitions?  Some dictionaries define wisdom as the judicious application of knowledge for circumstances encountered on a day to day basis.  It is making a right decision based upon conditions from which experience or education has informed us.  The Bible has a much better definition of wisdom.   For one thing, the believer can find wisdom in the Word of God, from Genesis to Revelation, and the giver of wisdom is not of human origin but He Who is Divine.  God Himself is full of all wisdom and the Holy Spirit can impart to us godly wisdom which is far above that which humans generally tend to see it as.  The real beginning and the very ending of wisdom is the fear of the Lord (Prov 1:7) and it is foolish to ignore the true source of wisdom, as we shall read.

It is wise to please God because God will give wisdom to those who strive to walk in righteousness.  The one who chases “after the wind” depends upon himself or in others and that will end up in meaninglessness.  God is the source of all wisdom while the world offers only empty advice that ends up in death.

Solomon could have asked for riches, fame, and power over his enemies, instead he asked for wisdom and knowledge and so because Solomon asked for wisdom God gave perhaps the greatest wisdom ever given to any man but because he valued godly wisdom, God also gave him “wealth, possessions, and honor” to which no man had ever had before and possibly since.  To seek godly wisdom is to seek those things that are worth all the treasure in the world because wisdom and truth outlasts earthly possessions.

Solomon describes wisdom as a personal pronoun or as a person and just as humans can sometimes forsake their mates, their friends, and their families, it is possible to forsake wisdom too.

To forsake wisdom is to depend upon human reasoning but nothing compares with the wisdom of God because godly wisdom will “protect you” and “watch over you” while others forsake you and that is why Solomon writes that “wisdom is supreme.”

James agrees with Solomon’s writings in that wisdom is not of human origin but it “comes from heaven” and what is wisdom according to James?  We know that wisdom is fearing the Lord but this wisdom also is “pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.

”  What a clear definition of godly wisdom.  It is wise to be a peaceable person, to have mercy on others, to be impartial to people (for God is no respecter of persons), be submissive to God and to those in authority and to live a pure life.

James even says that if we lack wisdom, we can ask God for it and He will give it to us (James 1:5).

No one accumulates wisdom on their own nor does it come by accident.

It must be pursued and this pursuit of wisdom comes from listening to the advice of the godly but is not yet complete; the person that listens to godly advice must then “accept [this] instruction” for it does no good to just listen to it and not act upon it.

This is why James wrote that we must “be doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22).  Solomon says that if we listen and accept godly instruction “in the end [we] will be wise.”

Job’s words agree with what Solomon wrote that we must listen to and accept instruction and who better to listen to than the aged?  That is because a long life of experience brings this understanding because the aged have made enough mistakes and learned the hard way so many times that they have learned wisdom by all their experiences.  I have learned more from my mistakes than I ever learned from situations that worked out for me.

Finally, think of wisdom as something that can defend you from error.  Wisdom can be a fortress in that it defends us from ignorance and foolishness which can destroy us and tear us down.

The “excellency of knowledge is, that wisdom gives life to them that have it,” conversely the lack of such godly wisdom can lead to death because “The wise lay up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool brings ruin near” (Prov 10:4).

Conclusion

First Corinthians 1:30 gives us the greatest wisdom of all saying “you in Christ Jesus, who of God is made unto us wisdom, and righteousness, and sanctification, and redemption” but those who reject Jesus Christ as Savior and refuse to repent, they foolish have chosen to have the wrath of God upon them (John 3:36), therefore the wisest thing you could do is to bend the knee, confess your sins, repent of them, and then put your trust in Christ.  There is simply no other way to be saved (Acts 4:12) because even the “foolishness of God is [by far] wiser than men” (1 Cor 1:25).

5 Verses to Pray When You Need Wisdom – Counting My Blessings

Prayer For Those That Are Seeking Godly Wisdom

You’re tired. You’ve done it your way long enough. You’re ready for a change, but how?

Jesus’ brother, James wrote:

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. James 1:5

If you need wisdom. Ask. That’s it?

But you’re nervous. Is praying for wisdom praying for patience? Will you come up against more tough decisions or opportunities to practice wisdom? Are you afraid you’ll fail agaaaaiiiinnn.

You and I have opportunities to be wise or foolish every day.

And I don’t know about you, but I get tired of learning the hard way. I need advance knowledge to avoid as many wounds as possible.

So, I’m asking God to help me. I’m turning to His Word and prayer, and I’m asking Him to give me upfront wisdom . . . ready for the challenge, up to the test wisdom.

Will you join me?

I’ve found 5 verses we can add to our War Room walls to help us.

5 Bible Verses to Pray When You Need Wisdom

James 1:5–8

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and He will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.

Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. Such people should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.

Their loyalty is divided between God and the world, and they are unstable in everything they do.

Father, forgive me. I have divided loyalty. I want to have faith in you alone. I want to trust your truth and wisdom, but voices coax and pull me with half-truths, okay lies really, and I listen. I’m so sorry. I’m tired.

I want Your wisdom. Please help me. Grow my faith. Help me know that You are who You say You are, that You can and will do what You say, and that Jesus is the Way, Truth, and Life. I surrender my life to You, my Lord and my God.

Amen.

Proverbs 2:1–6

My child, listen to what I say and treasure my commands.
Tune your ears to wisdom, and concentrate on understanding.
Cry out for insight, and ask for understanding.

Search for them as you would for silver,
seek them hidden treasures.
Then you will understand what it means to fear the Lord,
and you will gain knowledge of God.

For the Lord grants wisdom!
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding.

Father, help me to know and obey Your perfect will. Teach me Your truth and bless me with the courage and strength I need to follow it faithfully. I long for insight and understanding . . .

gifts given through Your Spirit. I will study Your Word and learn Your commands, and with Your Spirit’s help, I will do my best to glorify You and obey. Help me, Father. I know Your ways are best.

Give me all I need to trust and obey. Amen.

James 3:17

But the wisdom from above is first of all pure. It is also peace loving, gentle at all times, and willing to yield to others. It is full of mercy and the fruit of good deeds. It shows no favoritism and is always sincere.

Father, Your wisdom is pure. Pure. Free of additives. It never is wisdom plus something. It is rock solid lasting truth. We’re so foolish. Looking for worldly knowledge to somehow work along-side or replace Your wisdom. Forgive us, Father.

Help me to see through worldly lies. Help me to know and live by Your peace-loving, gentle, humble, servant wisdom. Just saying that makes me realize how different it is from the world’s way that tells us to “take care of number one.” No more.

By Your grace, I will live for Your glory and follow Your wisdom.

Proverbs 8:12, 33–34

I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment.
I know where to discover knowledge and discernment.
Listen to my instruction and be wise. Don’t ignore it.
Joyful are those who listen to me, watching for me
daily at my gates waiting for me outside my home!

Father, I need to make better decisions. I need good judgment that helps me know and follow Your will. Help me set safe boundaries. Keep me from foolishly getting as close as I can to worldly thinking that goes against your Word. I want to know Your will. I want to fulfill Your plans and purposes.

I want to serve You with all I am and all I have. I want to live for Your glory. I want the joy that comes from living for You alone. But Father, I need Your grace. On my own, I can’t. But by Your grace through Jesus, I can anything You have prepared for me. Help me Lord, for Jesus’ sake. Amen.

Ephesians 1:16–18

I have not stopped thanking God for you.

I pray for you constantly, asking God, the glorious Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, to give you spiritual wisdom and insight so that you might grow in your knowledge of God.

I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope He has given to those He called—His holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.

Father, I lift up my loves to You. Protect them. They need wisdom. I love them so much and want them to know the joy of following Your truth and wisdom. Draw them close to You. Grow their faith. Give them a love for Your Word and prayer. Open their hearts and minds to understand Your truth. Help them trust and obey You. Protect them from the world’s lies.

Father, I know You love my loves even more than I do. I know You want what’s best for them. You have plans and purposes for them. I surrender them to your care. Fill them with Your love. Teach them Your truth. Give them Your wisdom. In Jesus message, Amen.

Don’t you just love that God wants us to ask Him for things wisdom?

He wants to bless us with everything we need to live today and face tomorrow.

10 Ways Prayers are Hindered (#5 is Shocking)

Prayer For Those That Are Seeking Godly Wisdom

Prayers are an important part of Christian life. They are worship, supplication, and confession; therefore, we don’t want them to be hindered. (See 3 requirements for effectual fervent prayer: ask, seek, and knock) If you don’t want your prayers hindered, stop doing these ten things.

1) Prayers are hindered by lack of love

All the virtue that is saving, and that distinguishes true Christians from others, is summed up in Christian love. When that love is missing or corrupted, then our prayers are hindered.

Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full–pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” (Luke 6:38)

Those who shut their ears to the cries of the poor will be ignored in their own time of need. (Proverbs 21:13)

Whoever forgives an offense seeks love, but whoever keeps bringing up the issue separates the closest of friends. (Proverbs 17:9 GWT)

2) Prayers are hindered by pride and selfishness

Pride and selfishness are the opposite of Christian love, so it’s obvious they hinder prayer.

When you pray for things, you don’t get them because you want them for the wrong reason-for your own pleasure. (James 4:3)

3) Prayers are hindered by unbelief and doubt (the absence of faith)

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to him must believe that God exists and that he rewards those who sincerely seek him. (Hebrews 11:6)

If any of you needs wisdom to know what you should do, you should ask God, and he will give it to you. God is generous to everyone and doesn’t find fault with them. When you ask for something, don’t have any doubts.

A person who has doubts is a wave that is blown by the wind and tossed by the sea. A person who has doubts shouldn’t expect to receive anything from the Lord.

A person who has doubts is thinking about two different things at the same time and can’t make up his mind about anything. (James 1:5-8)

You didn’t choose me. I chose you. I appointed you to go and produce lasting fruit, so that the Father will give you whatever you ask for, using my name. (John 15:16)

  • 1001 Verses about faith
  • Faith cometh by hearing
  • Faith is the substance

4) Prayers are hindered by disobedience

Once we know the will of God on any subject, it is disobedience and rebellion to continue to pray for a different answer on that subject. If we aren’t doers of what we know we should do, it will hinder our prayers. We need to obey God and please him for our prayers to be answered.

What the wicked fears will come upon him, But the desire of the righteous will be granted. (Proverbs 10:24)

Dear friends, if our conscience doesn’t condemn us, we can boldly look to God and receive from him anything we ask. We receive it because we obey his commandments and do what pleases him. (1 John 3:21-22 GWT)

  • God of Peace
  • God is a consuming fire

5) Prayers are hindered by family discord and strife

The marriage relationship was ordained by God in the first few chapters of the Bible. It was part of the first 6 days of creation. God made everything that was made and he looked at it and said, “it was good.

” Then he looked at man and said, “it is not good that man should dwell alone,” so he made a helper fit for him. Man and woman were created by God in a special way to complement and finish each other. This relationship is used as a model of Jesus Christ and the church of his children.

When this relationship is filled with ungodly discord and strife, everything suffers.

Husbands, in a similar way, live with your wives with understanding since they are weaker than you are. Honor your wives as those who share God’s life-giving kindness so that nothing will interfere1465 Egkoptó with your prayers. (1 Peter 3:7)

1465 egkóptō(from 1722 /en, “in” and 2875 /kóptō, “cut”) – properly, cut into ( blocking off a road); hinder (A-S) by “introducing an obstacle that stands sharply in the way of a moving object” (Souter); (figuratively) sharply impede, by cutting off what is desired or needed; to block (hinder).

6) Prayers are hindered by unforgiveness

The cornerstone of the Christian faith is Jesus Christ died for sins. Jesus Christ paid for sins. Jesus Christ forgives sins. If you do not understand forgiveness enough to forgive others, then your faith is so small that it is tantamount to unbelief. In that case, don’t expect any prayers to be answered except prayers of confession.

“This is how you should pray: Our Father in heaven, let your name be kept holy. Let your kingdom come. Let your will be done on earth as it is done in heaven. Give us our daily bread today. Forgive us as we forgive others.

Don’t allow us to be tempted. Instead, rescue us from the evil one. “If you forgive the failures of others, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you don’t forgive others, your Father will not forgive your failures.

 (Matthew 6:12-15 GWT)

And when you stand praying, forgive, if you have anything against any: that your Father also who is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses. But if you do not forgive, neither will your Father who is in heaven forgive your trespasses. (Mark 11:25-26)

7) Prayers are hindered by lack of reconciliation

I love the picture that is developed by combining Matthew 5 with Matthew 18. If two people have a disagreement where one has something against the other, they both meet each other to reconcile. The one, who was wronged by the other, going to correct and restore the other. And the one, who has wronged the other, going to confess and reconcile to the other.

“So if you are presenting a sacrifice at the altar in the Temple and you suddenly remember that someone has something against you, leave your sacrifice there at the altar. Go and be reconciled to that person. Then come and offer your sacrifice to God. (Matthew 5:23-24)

8) Prayers are hindered by unconfessed sins

The Apostle John spent most of his life encouraging saints to have a relationship with God. In 1 John 1, he reminds us that our relationship with each other depends on our relationship with God. These relationships depend on the kind of lives we’re living. If we’re living in unconfessed sin, we cannot be living in close intimate relationship with God.

  • If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: (Psalm 66:18 KJV)
  • If I had cherished sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened; (Psalm 66:18 NIV)
  • If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. (Psalm 66:18 NLT)
  • Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore. (Isaiah 59:2)

Behold, the LORD’S hand is not shortened, that it cannot save; neither his ear heavy, that it cannot hear: But your iniquities have separated between you and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear. (Isaiah 59:1-2)

  • What about self-righteousness? (the damnable sin of justifying yourself)

9) Prayers are hindered by religion and idolatry

The people of Israel in the time of Hosea weren’t living outrageous profligate wild party lives. They were deeply profoundly piously religious, yet God rebuked their works and turned his back on them. It was true for them and it will be true for us.

For I will be unto Ephraim as a lion, and as a young lion to the house of Judah: I, even I, will tear and go away; I will take away, and none shall rescue him. I will go and return to my place, till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: in their affliction they will seek me early. (Hosea 5)

Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me.

And the word of the LORD came unto me, saying, Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be inquired of at all by them? Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the LORD will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols; That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols. (Ezekiel 14:1-5)

“I called, and you refused to listen. I stretched out my hands to you, and no one paid attention. You ignored all my advice. You did not want me to warn you. I will laugh at your calamity.

I will make fun of you when panic strikes you, when panic strikes you a violent storm, when calamity strikes you a wind storm, when trouble and anguish come to you. “They will call to me at that time, but I will not answer.

They will look for me, but they will not find me, (Proverbs 1:24-28 GWT)

10) Prayers are hindered when not in God’s will

One of the most important requirements of effectual fervent prayer is seeking God’s will. Even when Jesus prayed to his father, he sought the will of the father over his own will. Our prayers will be hindered if we don’t do the same thing.

And this is the confidence that we have before Him: If we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. (1 John 5:14)

The solution to hindered prayers

  • 3 requirements for effectual fervent prayer: ask, seek, and knock — The 3 requirements for fervent effectual prayer are ask, seek, and knock. The Christian life is an active life, it motivates, and it works. You need to ask the will of God. You need to actively seek the answer. Then, you have to put the answer into action. All 3 of these are required. Don’t expect a godly answer and good results without all three.
  • 10 mistakes most people make when praying — We need to pray Jesus taught his disciples in Matthew 6 and Luke 11. But, most of us can’t. We don’t believe God is that accessible. We don’t believe God is that close. We don’t believe God is that attentive. So, we make some of the following mistakes, which impede our prayer life.
  • 20 Things Godly Christians Do Every Day — Here are 20 things that godly Christians should do every day. There could be fewer if some of these were combined. There could be more. But, these 20 are plenty to think about. Most Christians should do most of these every day. If you don’t think you need to do some of them, I hope you will do the rest of them and check up on yourself.

#2.2 ASK GOD FOR WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING, IN JESUS NAME, IN FAITH

Prayer For Those That Are Seeking Godly Wisdom

Go to Introduction

This bible study uses a Greek Unicode font, and the Hebrew Unicode font “David” which comes with later versions of Windows.

How to Study the Word of God Index || Search this website || Bible Studies Index

Introduction 2.2

This bible study gives scriptures to show that we should ask God for wisdom and understanding in faith, in order to get them.

MATTHEW 7:7-8 (Jesus)
7 Ask1, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
8 For every one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened.

JOHN 14:13-14 (Jesus)
13 And whatever you shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
14 If you ask anything in my name, I will do it.

EPHESIANS 1:17 (Paul)

17 That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him.

JAMES 1:5-7
5 If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask2 of God who gives to all men liberally, and does not reproach; and it shall be given him.

6 But let him ask2 in faith, nothing doubting: For he who doubts is a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed.

7 For do not let that man think that he shall receive anything from the Lord.

Note: The word translated ask1 (Gr. αἰτεῖτε, Gtr. aiteite) (Matthew 7:7) is the second person, plural, present, imperative, active, of the verb “aiteō”, “I ask”.

In Greek, the present imperative often indicates a command to continue doing something, or to do it repeatedly, and in this case it literally means “keep on asking”. The word translated let him ask2 (Gr. αἰτείτω, Gtr.

aiteitō) (James 1:5; 1:6) is the third person singular, present imperative active, of the same verb “aiteō”, “I ask”. Again, the present imperative is a command to continue to do something, or to do it repeatedly, and here it literally means “let him keep on asking”. Godly wisdom is something that comes to us gradually (See #2.

3 Note 2), and if we continue to ask in faith, nothing doubting (Matthew 21:22; James 1:6), using the name of Jesus (John 14:13-14; 16:23), then as we submit ourselves to study God's word, and seek for it, God will manifest it to us.

#2.3 SEEK GOD FOR WISDOM AND UNDERSTANDING

1 CHRONICLES 28:8 (David)
8 Now therefore, in the sight of all Israel the congregation of the LORD, and in the audience of our God, keep and seek for all the commandments of the LORD your God: that you may possess this good land, and leave it for an inheritance for your children after you for ever.

EZRA 7:10
10 For Ezra had prepared his heart to seek the law of the LORD, and to do it, and to teach in Israel statutes and judgments.

PSALMS 119:45
45 And I will walk at liberty: for I seek your precepts.

PROVERBS 2:1-8 (Solomon)1 My son, if you will receive my words, and hide my commandments with you;

2 So that you incline your ear to wisdom, and apply your heart to understanding;

3 Yes, if you cry after knowledge, and lift up your voice for understanding;
4 If you seek for her as silver, and search for her as for hid treasures;5 Then shall you understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God.

6 For the LORD gives wisdom: his mouth comes knowledge and understanding.

7 He lays up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to those who walk uprightly.
8 He keeps the paths of judgment, and preserves the way of his saints.

MATTHEW 7:7-8 (Jesus)
7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and you shall find; knock, and it shall be opened to you.
8 For every one who asks receives; and he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks it shall be opened.

HEBREWS 11:6
6 But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he who comes to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of those who diligently seek him.

Note 1: If we require wisdom or understanding from God, then apart from having a gift of the word of wisdom (1 Corinthians 12:8), we need to ask for it in faith (See #2.2). In order to receive it we need to prepare our hearts (See #2.1), and seek for it.

Wisdom comes from hearing, seeing, and meditating on God's word (Psalms 19:7; 119:98; 119:130; Proverbs 1:1-6; 4:10-11; 5:1-2; 8:33; 9:9-10; 13:1; 19:20; 23:19), from obedience to God's word (Job 28:28; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:23; 14:16; Ecclesiastes 2:26; Mark 4:24), from fearing God (Job 28:28; Psalm 111:10; Proverbs 1:7; 8:13-14), through chastisement (Proverbs 21:11; 29:15), by keeping wise company (Proverbs 13:20), from observing nature (Proverbs 6:6-8; 30:24-31), and it is found in Christ (Colossians 2:2-3). If we expect God to bless us with wisdom, then we need to do those things which God has ordained that we should do in order to obtain it; this is how we seek for it. When Daniel had his dreams and visions, he also had to seek for understanding (Daniel 8:15-16 with 8:27; Daniel 10:2-3 with 10:10-14). The answer was given immediately (Daniel 10:12), but he still had to seek for the manifestation of it with prayer and fasting because of spiritual warfare in the heavens (Daniel 10:13).

Note 2: God's wisdom that is learned comes to us gradually:

(Deuteronomy 32:2) “My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass.

(Isaiah 28:9-10) “Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? those who are weaned from the milk, and drawn from the breast.

For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little.”

So we need to keep on asking, keep on believing, and keep on seeking, in order to keep on growing in wisdom.
