Prayer For Grace To Accept That I Am Forgiven

5 Verses to Pray that will Help You Forgive Big Hurts – Counting My Blessings

Prayer For Grace To Accept That I Am Forgiven

Wow, I’ve wrestled with this post…I shouldn’t be surprised, this forgiveness thing is hard. Something the Lord laid on my heart as I was working on this is the thought that many of us forgive from a “Law” perspective … one that believes “you have to forgive or God won’t forgive you.”

And although, the Bible tells us Jesus said that while He walked among us … I wonder if just maybe we’re missing the point He was trying to make. That from a “Gospel” perspective … it’s a blessing to forgive as we’ve been forgiven.

Believe me, I understand how hard it can be to forgive when the hurt is huge and the consequences lasting.

In fact, I wrote about my struggle – here.

Something I’ve learned about God’s love and His desire for you and me to forgive as we’ve been forgiven is that He is not sitting on His throne holding a big threatening stick over our heads shouting, “You better forgive or else.

” On the contrary, I believe He is a loving Father, who is holding us saying, “Let it go. Let me carry this for you. I love you and I understand your pain but I want you to enjoy all the blessings I have waiting for you when you lay down your burden of anger and resentment.

” I want to pray for us and ask God for His help. I love that you and I can honestly go to Him with the hard stuff this.

David wrote…

The Lord hears His people when they call to Him for help. He rescues them from all their troubles. The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

Psalm 34:17–18
One of the things I’ve always loved about this “man after God’s own heart” is his honesty before God. David poured it all out there trusting that the Lord would help him.

So let’s get honest. If you’re struggling to forgive someone who has hurt you, I’d to invite you to honestly pray the following and ask God for His help. I’ve been where you are. I know how hard it is. But I also know God wants to help…

5 Verses to Pray that will Help You Forgive Big Hurts

Since God chose you to be the holy people He loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.

Colossians 3:12–13

Father, this is hard! I am so thankful for Your forgiveness. In fact, I can’t imagine my life without Your grace and mercy. I know my sins are many and that You forgive me each time I ask.

I don’t want to have a double standard … an I want forgiveness but I don’t want to give it attitude, but Father, You know how painful this is. You know the consequences are huge and lasting.

You know my heart hurts.

But I don’t want to live with this bitterness and anger any longer. It’s eating me up inside. Please help me. I need You! Amen.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud 5or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged.

1 Corinthians 13:4–5

Father, thank you! You are patient and kind and by Your grace, You don’t keep a record of my failures … of the times I’ve wronged You or one of Your children. I want to love You! I want to love Jesus! Let love be my highest goal.

(1 Corinthians 14:1) And when I’m angry and my heart hurts, Father, help me see You as my loving parent. Help me know how You want to hold me close and calm my fears and frustrations.

You don’t walk away during my tantrums but whisper through Your Spirit reminding me of Your faithful presence and love.

Thank you for loving me most when I deserve it least. Amen.

Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.
Ephesians 4:2

Father, this is hard. Humbleness, gentleness, patience, and forgiveness are not things the world affirms right now. Self-righteous anger seems to be the attitude of the day.

But You have called me to be different … to show the world Your love. And that means speaking Your truth with gentleness and respect. That means loving when it’s hard and serving when it’s inconvenient.

That means forgiving even when it’s undeserved and difficult.

Help me, Father! I know I can’t love the way You want me to on my own. I need Your Spirit within me guiding and helping … so I can trust and submit to Your will even when it’s hard.

Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you.

1 Peter 5:7

Father, Thank you for caring about me. Thank you for caring for me. Thank you for loving and forgiving me.

I don’t want to carry this hurt and anger any longer. The burden weighs me down and robs me of the joy You want for me. I’m ready, Father. And with Your help, I privately offer these words of forgiveness over the person who hurt me.

I have held on to this anger, hurt, and resentment for too long. And because I am completely loved, accepted, and forgiven by God in Christ Jesus, I am able to forgive you, ______________. I choose to forgive you for ______________, and I release you completely. You don’t owe me. I will no longer hold this against you. You are free. I am free.

Thank you, Lord!

The Lord gives His people strength. The Lord blesses them with peace.

Psalm 29:11

Father, now I ask that You will give me the strength to move on from this anger and bitterness. Help me live and enjoy Your peace … fully trusting that I have left this all in Your more capable hands. Help me live each day with restored joy and point people to the amazing blessings You have for them.

Thank you for giving me Your Spirit’s strength to do what I couldn’t do on my own. Thank you for showing me the way to know and experience a peace that only You can give. Thank you for loving me and for never giving up on me. In Jesus name, Amen.

Friends, I’ll admit there have been times I have needed these prayers desperately. Today, by God’s grace, all is forgiven.

But I’m always mindful there is a real possibility that I will know this fight again in the future. So, I’m bookmarking these prayers to be ready and armed the next time I’m hurting and find it hard to forgive. And just maybe … even if you can say along with me, “by God’s grace, all is forgiven,” you may want to bookmark it too. Because the battle is real! But…

God is always gracious … willing to hold you close, hear your honest heartfelt prayers, and He will help you forgive just because that’s how much He loves you!

Prayer Request for Forgiveness and Confessions

Prayer For Grace To Accept That I Am Forgiven

As human beings, there are times we fall short, and we commit acts against other human beings that we end up regretting in the end.

Have you ever said something mean to someone only to instantly regret it moments later? Have you been disrespectful to your parents, or told a lie to get something? These are all things that God does not to see his children do. When we commit a sin we must seek forgiveness.

The best way to seek forgiveness from your Holy Father is to ask the Lord to bear all transgressions of yourself and that of other people through prayer.

God loves us no matter what, but He does expect us to be responsible for our mistakes. By talking to God through prayer, this allows Him to know that you accept your mistakes, accept His mercy, and that you will seek Him in the future at all times, in all things.

If the need for forgiveness is what you are seeking most, whether in your own life, or in the life of someone you love, let us pray for you at the holiest place on earth, the Church of the Holy Sepulcher.

We have faith that sending your prayer to the place where our Lord Jesus Christ gave his life for us will help your request be granted! It is our honor and privilege to be a prayer warrior for you, and to ask the Lord to watch over you, protect you, and keep you, always. Please submit your prayer request today.

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.” John 1:9

Prayer for Personal Forgiveness

Lord, there are no words to express how horrible I feel every time I break Your heart.  The guilt and the shame is overwhelming when I allow myself to do so. I ask for Your touch right now, and for Your forgiveness for all I’ve done.

I am so sick of being “born again” and still doing the things I hate doing. The hardness of allowing myself to do wrong is a barrier between the two of us that I can’t stand. I love You, and I am so regrettably sorry for my selfish actions against You and all others.

Thank You for Your forgiveness, Lord. With Your forgiveness I am whole again, and new. Amen.

Prayer for Forgiving Others

Holy Father, I can’t seem to shake the harm that’s been done to me from my thoughts. I am drowning in the anger I feel. Lord, I shouldn’t think the vengeful thoughts that I currently find myself having.

You have called me to forgive every single person that wrongs me, but I need Your strength to overcome these trespasses against me. Father, I want to forgive those who have done wrong.

I want to forgive them completely so that You can use me however You wish, and to be a loving example of You towards them. I ask that you take this burden from me. Do with me as you please Father. Amen.

Prayer for New Life

Father, I know that I have broken your laws and my sins have separated me from You. I am truly sorry, and I want to turn away from my past sinful life, drawing my eyes toward You. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again.

I believe that your son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, and to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward.

Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Your precious name I pray, Amen.

Prayer for Hope and Forgiveness

Heavenly Father, from whom comes the beauty of each new day and every newborn child, I want to thank You for Your everlasting forgiveness and eternal hope.

You turn the pages of our lives, filling our days with forgiveness, erasing our transgressions, and encouraging us to try again.

You are the author of life, who brings fresh expectation into each day, for all of your treasured children. Lord, flood this heart of mine with your hope.

Prayer for Dedication and Forgiveness Towards Others

Father, I ask to be called as a witness to your love by the love I extend to others, and as a precursor of Your justice by my unfailing commitment to what is right and good.

May I lead a compassionate, righteous life with Your unfailing love by my side. I want to reflect the light of Christ in my forgiveness, mercy and compassion towards all.

I long to be a dedicated servant in all that I do, and all that I am. Amen.

Prayer for Forgiveness of Adultery

Father, You are the God of Restoration, redeeming us from the pit which eternally lies below for everyone who rejects You. Yet, I feel rejected as my spouse is cheating and it breaks my heart into a million pieces.

Please help me Father, in this great time of heartache. Help me to be able to continue in this marriage in the hopes that we can both be reconciled to one another, and seek forgiveness.

I know that my spouse is not really happy inside and that the passing pleasures of sin are fleeting, but they cannot suppress their conscience for very long.

I ask that You move my spouse to confess their sin, to be convicted of their sin, and to repent of their sin with the passionate desire that we can be reconciled to one another. You are the answer to our time of great need, conviction, and forgiveness. Amen.

Prayer for Forgiveness of Sins and Healing

Lord, I need your help and your insight more than ever. Today I have gained a better understanding of forgiving others and with your help; I fully forgive from my heart. Just as you have freely forgiven me, I forgive them.

Father, I ask you to forgive me for hurting others my own hurt and to heal my relationships with those that I care about. I pray all of this in Jesus’ precious name and by whom all forgiveness and healing has been made possible. Thank you for loving me in ways I’ll never comprehend.

I am so thankful to have You in my life, and to call you Father.

25 Bible Verses On Forgiveness To Bring You Peace

Prayer For Grace To Accept That I Am Forgiven

Forgiveness can be a struggle for most. In life, people behave in ways that can offend us. Holding a grudge might feel natural, but the Bible encourages us to forgive.

Recent studies on forgiveness show that practising forgiveness can improve our mental and physical health. But how do we practice forgiveness and experience the peace it brings?

Reading these Bible verses about forgiveness will inspire you to forgive others and help you remember that we have been forgiven thanks to Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

All of these Bible verses about forgiveness have been taken from the NIV version of the Bible.

Bible verses about forgiveness

These are the Bible verses I turn to when struggling with the challenge of forgiveness. They remind me that God’s forgiveness is so powerful. If we turn to Jesus, we find full forgiveness of our sins, freedom and peace.

Psalm 103:12 “As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.”

Ephesians 1:7 “In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace.”

1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.”

Daniel 9:9 “The Lord our God is merciful and forgiving, even though we have rebelled against him.”

Isaiah 43:25 “I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake,

and remembers your sins no more …”

Isaiah 1: 18 “Come now, let us settle the matter,” says the Lord. 'Though your sins are scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red as crimson,

they shall be wool.'”

Micah 7:18-19 “Who is a God you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. 19 You will again have compassion on us; you will tread our sins underfoot

and hurl all our iniquities into the depths of the sea.”

Hebrews 10:17 “Then he adds: “Their sins and lawless acts I will remember no more.”

Jeremiah 31: 34 “For I will forgive their wickedness
and will remember their sins no more.”

Jesus’ forgiveness

Jesus gives us the perfect example of forgiveness. While in agony on the cross, Jesus called out, exclaiming “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.” (Luke 23:34).

Wondering how many times the Bible calls us to forgive? Jesus asks us to model our forgiveness of others on the way God has forgiven us, forgiving “not by seven times, but seventy seven.”

Luke 5: 20 “When Jesus saw their faith, he said, 'Friend, your sins are forgiven.'”

Luke 6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

Matthew 18: 21-22 “Then Peter came to Jesus and asked, 'Lord, how many times shall I forgive my brother or sister who sins against me? Up to seven times?' Jesus answered, 'I tell you, not seven times, but seventy-seven times.'”

Matthew 6: 14-15 “For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.”

Forgiveness and Compassion: a story from Rwanda

If you’re finding it hard to forgive, you may be encouraged by Methode’s testimony.

Methode was only 6-years-old when the Rwandan genocide occurred, during which, both of his parents were murdered.

Looking back, Methode says, “The biggest thing that happened to me, that the government would not have managed to give me, is forgiving my parents’ killers.

“God convinced me that I would not be any different if I revenged. I thank Compassion, and my sponsor because they introduced me to knowing God bit by bit, until I got born again and my family followed on. My project helped me discover my singing and leadership talent. I am learning to accept God’s love for me and in the end, I know He is enough.

“Because I was a sponsored child, I went to the church project every week. Through the regular project activities singing, games, praying together and reading the Bible, I started to realise that I could get peace from God.”

We invite you to consider sponsoring a child Methode and giving them real hope for the future. Your sponsorship will enable them to go to a local church project every week where they can come to know the grace and peace of God for themselves.

Bible verses about forgiving others

We may find it hard to forgive others, but the Bible encourages us to show others the same grace our Heavenly Father has given us. Take a moment to reflect on these scriptures on forgiveness and ask God’s help in forgiving those around you.

Colossians 3:13 “Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you.”

Ephesians 4: 31-32 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.”

Mark 11:25 “And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins.”

Matthew 6:9-15 “This, then, is how you should pray: ‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,

but deliver us from the evil one.’”

Bible verses about a new beginning

When we experience forgiveness of sins, we become a new creation. We can know the fullness of relationship with God because of Christ’s sacrifice for us. These forgiveness quotes talk about the new start we’re given when God forgives us!

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

1 Peter 1:3 “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.”

Luke 7:47 “Therefore, I tell you, her many sins have been forgiven—as her great love has shown. But whoever has been forgiven little loves little.”

Psalm 40:3 “He put a new song in my mouth, a hymn of praise to our God. Many will see and fear the Lord

and put their trust in him.”

Ezekiel 11:19 “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.”

Christian forgiveness quotes

These famous forgiveness quotes remind us again of the richness of God’s grace and mercy. Because of who He is, we can be fully forgiven.

  •   “And you know, when you’ve experienced grace and you feel you’ve been forgiven, you’re a lot more forgiving of other people. You’re a lot more gracious to others.” Rick Warren
  •   “One of the most staggering truths of the Scriptures is to understand that we do not earn our way to heaven. … works have a place–but as a demonstration of having received God’s forgiveness, not as a badge of merit of having earned it.” Ravi Zacharias
  •   “I believe that as often as I transgress, God is more ready to forgive me than I am ready to offend.” Charles Spurgeon
  •   “No child of God sins to that degree as to make himself incapable of forgiveness.” John Bunyan
  •   “A great many people want to bring their faith, their works, their good deeds to Him for salvation. Bring your sins, and He will bear them away into the wilderness of forgetfulness, and you will never see them again.”- Dwight L. Moody
  •   “You have been forgiven, so act it!” A.W. Tozer
  •   “There are some facts that will never change. One fact is that you are forgiven. If you are in Christ, when he sees you, your sins are covered-he doesn't see them. He sees you better than you see yourself.” Max Lucado

Our favourite Bible stories about forgiveness

The prodigal son

The parable of the prodigal son is one of Jesus’ most famous teachings. It shows us that God’s forgiveness is always available to us. There is nothing we can do to separate ourselves from God’s lavish grace!

Luke 15: 11-22 “There was a man who had two sons. The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them.

“Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living.

After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs.

He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything.

“When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired servants have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me one of your hired servants.’ So he got up and went to his father.

“But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. The son said to him, ‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. I am no longer worthy to be called your son.’

“But the father said to his servants, ‘Quick! Bring the best robe and put it on him. Put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet. Bring the fattened calf and kill it. Let’s have a feast and celebrate. For this son of mine was dead and is alive again; he was lost and is found.’ So they began to celebrate.”

The parable of the unforgiving servant

Jesus told this parable to help us understand that we need to forgive others time and time again. We're warned not to follow the example of the servant who was forgiven a great debt himself, but was unwilling to forgive his neighbour.

“Then Peter came up and said to him, 'Lord, how often will my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? As many as seven times?' Jesus said to him, 'I do not say to you seven times, but seventy-seven times.

“Therefore the kingdom of heaven may be compared to a king who wished to settle accounts with his servants. When he began to settle, one was brought to him who owed him ten thousand talents.

And since he could not pay, his master ordered him to be sold, with his wife and children and all that he had, and payment to be made. So the servant fell on his knees, imploring him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you everything.

’ And pity for him, the master of that servant released him and forgave him the debt.

“But when that same servant went out, he found one of his fellow servants who owed him a hundred denarii, and seizing him, he began to choke him, saying, ‘Pay what you owe.’ So his fellow servant fell down and pleaded with him, ‘Have patience with me, and I will pay you.

’ He refused and went and put him in prison until he should pay the debt. When his fellow servants saw what had taken place, they were greatly distressed, and they went and reported to their master all that had taken place.

Then his master summoned him and said to him, ‘You wicked servant! I forgave you all that debt because you pleaded with me. And should not you have had mercy on your fellow servant, as I had mercy on you?’ And in anger his master delivered him to the jailers, until he should pay all his debt.

So also my heavenly Father will do to every one of you, if you do not forgive your brother from your heart.”
