Prayer Against Holiday Depression

Depression, despair, despondency-state of being not just a bad mood that will pass in a few hours, and the worst health disorder. Sometimes a prolonged depression put on a par with complex diseases, treatment of which is engaged in occupational therapists.

It is Worth noting that in Orthodoxy such state of mind was equivalent to a mortal sin. But the lives of some saints also suffered from such complex mental disorders. Therefore, until our time has come to prayers from despondency and depression, which help the believer to overcome this difficulty in his life.

Today, there are a sufficient number of different prayers that can help the believer to get rid of a bad moral condition. The first step is to choose a sacred text, which will have a positive impact on people, asking for help from the saints.

It is Worth noting that every Orthodox can distinguish which prayer – from depression and despair, and some from sadness and depression. It is only necessary to read the prayer, the text becomes clear, and the believer himself should feel that this sacred text is designed specifically for his condition.

Moreover, it is necessary to choose a Saint that will hear your request, understand it and because of the need to implement it. To make it not so simple, you need to consider your situation and to find that miracle worker whose story fits a particular situation.

It is Also worth considering which type of people one or the other strong prayer against depression. That is, people can be in a state of oppression for various reasons, there are prayers of such a plan for people:

  • Who are in despair and depression, because they are in prison and they did not have enough spiritual strength;
  • Sometimes depression because of separation of person with people close to him;
  • In some cases, a believer is unable to cope with depression the perpetual failures in various endeavors.

Saints to help Christians from laziness, discouragement, despair, depression

Depending on the specific conditions that each believer must choose a worker who will be able to hear his requests and to help in difficult times. Every Orthodox Christian can ask for help from these saints.

  • Mary.
  • Matrona of Moscow.
  • John of Kronstadt.
  • Nicholas.
  • St. Tikhon.
  • Martyr Trifon.
  • St. Ephraim.

It is Worth noting that the prayers in the temples before the icons of all these saints worked incredible miracles. Repeatedly observed that the people asking for their help, its really been received.

Sometimes the situation was seemingly hopeless, but suddenly appeared a way out after reading prayers from depression. To choose a miracle worker, you should briefly know the history of each of them.

Mother of God

The Orthodox mother of God has special significance. Her image was written by an incredible number of different icons, some of which are miraculous. It is believed that the person who asks the mother of God help, be sure to get it, she hears all and never refuses to help but when it really counts.

As for this situation, read the sacred text the Christian is right in front of the icon «unexpected joy». In the case of reading a sincere prayer before the icon of the person returns to his normal existence, he acquires a spiritual strength and emotional balance. Orthodox gets rid of the doldrums and continues a normal life.

Matrona of Moscow

It is also Considered one of the strongest saints that helps all those in need. Matrona was born totally blind, and she never saw this world. But almost from childhood she had the gift of foresight and healing. The life of Matrona devoted to helping other people, she never refused, and did all that was in her power.

To Pray before the icon of Matrona of Moscow directly at home or in the temple. If possible, it is highly recommended to come to the relics of Matrona. In this place is daily visited by hundreds of Orthodox who have sought its assistance to this day. But, if this is not possible, then read a prayer from despair, depression, anguish and despair in the home before the icon.

John of Kronstadt

John was born in the far North of Russia in the family of a poor rural worker. Even from an early age, the future Saint was able to experience all the harsh conditions of life.

Living in a poor family, the young man is fully known what life is, full of poverty, tears and despair.

Such living conditions made John fairly introverted person, but at the same time he had a compassionate love for the poor.

Due to the lack of material goods, he did not play with toys and other children's games that were available to his peers. However, he never lost heart and carried in his heart of God. John loved the outdoors, she gave him spiritualstrength and inner balance.

It did not break poverty, and he began to learn to read and write. After some time John entered the Academy and later becomes a priest. For the rest of his life, he helped all the people who asked him for help, he did all that was in his power.

That is why the powerful prayer of this Holy depression helps people who have lost their vitality due to financial failures.

Saint Nicholas

From infancy, Nicholas was a very religious man, he fasted from childhood. At the age of 10 years he began to study the Divine Scripture, for days he could stay in the temple, not leaving it, where he prayed.

At a very young age he became a priest, for some time the fame of the young but very wise priest spread across the country. Many Orthodox came to the temple, where he served as Nicholas, and asked for his blessing.

He spoke long enough and competent speech, which was not the young man, and the wise old man.

He read a very large number of books, both religious and scientific, and therefore different from a large number of people with his incredible erudition.

Then throughout his life he has helped people. Instructed in the difficult moments, and when it was necessary, and helped them financially.

Known history when one man was willing to give his daughters to a brothel because of the terrible monetary problems. So when it came to Nicholas, then threw them money thereby saved the girls from a bitter fate.

Holy also helped people who have been wrongfully convicted, and have made many different good deeds.

Therefore, every Orthodox, praying from boredom and depression, can do it before the icon of Saint Nicholas. It is worth noting that the sacred texts are best read in the temple, in peace and quiet.

St. Tikhon

A Very powerful prayer from despair and depression to read the Holy Tikhon, who delivereth the needy from such a mental disorder. A distinctive feature of this prayer is its privacy. To read the sacred text must be home before the icon, when it is desirable to seek help in silence.

How to pray?

After you chose which Saint to pray from depression, you need to know how to pronounce that prayer was heard. The ideal is to visit the relics of the Saint and to ask for help directly on a place of burial. But, unfortunately, not everyone has such an opportunity.

However, to visit the temple almost every person, it is necessary to pray before the icon of the Saint and ask him to give mental strength, which will help to overcome this moral disease. Before reading prayers from depression, you should light a candle and only then start communicating with the saints.

At home prayer will also be heard, most importantly – to light a candle before the icon, put a glass of Holy water and say a prayer. You need to read with understanding and with pure intentions, and at the end you need to drink a SIP of Holy water and crossed himself.

Another important factor – it is sincerity. When a Christian requires the help and index in the form of reports that he needs, then the miracle can not wait.

It is very important to read the test sincerely, with a pure soul and heart. Also, do not hope that after the first reading, immediately there will be a miracle.

The Lord knows better than we when and what time the person really needs help.

What to do if prayer does not work?

Do Not despair, when for a long time, a prayer from depression, and morale is not improving. The first thing to think about as you read the prayer, whether it flows from lips sincere, or the text is notes requirements.

It's Also worth remembering, what was your lifestyle before started to ask the Saints. Moreover, if people never read the daily prayers, did not visit temples, do not expect that the first time a miracle will happen. Every day we need to thank the Lord for all he gives, and then the person, even without knowing it, you will get more vitality.

Conclusion

When a person is in a prolonged depression and professional psychologists can help in this situation, a significant part of the population resorts to the help of prayers.

It should be noted that this remedy is quite effective because there are quite a number of examples of physical and moral healing just from the fact that Christian was really a believer that you put in your heart to God.

Keep a correct way of life, thank the Lord for all that you have, and periodically, when it is really necessary, ask for help.

A Prayer for When You Battle Depression

Prayer Against Holiday Depression

If you're feeling depressed, remember that you're not alone. God is with you always. Don't be afraid to reach out to people in your family, your church, or your friend circles.

Ask them to pray with and for you, and continue to pray each day, asking God to draw you closer to Himself.

If you're feeling down today or if you've felt down for quite some time, pray this prayer today:

A Prayer for Battling Depression

Dear Heavenly Father,

Thank you that you never change, even when everything around me is changing and unpredictable. (Hebrews 13:8) Thank you that you are stable, even when I feel so very unstable. (Isaiah 33:6) It feels Satan has been whipping me around! Please sustain me, protect me, and enable me to stand. (1 John 4:4; Psalm 28:7)

I know that because sin entered the world, all of creation is under a curse–all creation groans. (Romans 8:22) Because of this, I struggle physically, emotionally and spiritually. Thank you for how my body is made, and that it sends me warning signals to tell me that I need help. Right now my brain and emotions are telling me that something isn’t right.

Help me to see if there is something physical that is causing my depression. Help me to sift through my circumstances to see if there is a need for change in some way. If I am experiencing depression as a result of a spiritual battle, please bring that to light and show me the best way to fight that battle.

Please lead me to the right source for help. Thank you for understanding what I am going through (Hebrews 4:15), and thank you that Your Word tells me that even Your Son went through hard times emotionally.

There were times that He was distressed, grieved, faced loneliness, experienced deep sorrow, and after the death of John He went into isolation (Matthew 14:13). He cried in prayer (Hebrews 5:7-9), and at times he was overwhelmingly sad (Isaiah 53:3).

There was even a time that he was afraid his body would not survive the anguish he felt. (Matthew 26:38)

I pray that You would send someone to  help bear my burden.

(Galatians 6:2) Thank you for again reminding me of how weak I am, and for the body of Christ that you have provided to help bear burdens when we grow too weary to bear them alone.

I need someone to come along side me, take my arms, wrap them around their neck, and help me walk until I am strong enough to walk on my own. (Ecclesiastes 4:9)

Thank you for the grace that you have provided. (Hebrews 4:16)  I pray You will use this difficult time to cause me to go deeper in my relationship with You, and that You would get the glory for anything that is produced in me. (James 1)

Thank you for how you are going to use this time in my life and for all you are doing through this depression. Thank you that You have allowed my weakness to manifest itself in the form of depression, so that You can work more of Your image into my life. (Galatians 2:20; Galatians 4:19)

Thank you that I am not defined by this weakness.  Since I am Your child, I am defined by what You accomplished on the cross. Because of Christ’s death on the cross, I can wake up every morning and live life knowing that no matter what I do, think, say, or feel–the cross covers it.

Because You offered up Your own beloved Son, I can have peace with You and can face each day with fresh hope and grace.  Help me to focus on what is true, and not focus on how I feel.

As I sit before the cross, help me to gain a new appreciation for what it actually means for me on a daily basis.

Help me to embrace my weakness as a gift. Remind me that my weakness allows You to work through me even when I am so very weak and feel as though I can do nothing. (2 Corinthians 12:9) Through this time, I pray that you would enlarged my heart that I might love and obey You, and love others more deeply. (Psalm 119:32; Galatians 6:2; 2 Corinthians 1:3-4)
Amen

A Prayer Against Depression

“Heavenly Father, please strengthen our hearts, and remind us to encourage one another when the troubles of life start to overwhelm us. Please guard our hearts from depression. Give us the strength up to rise up each day and fight against the struggles which seek to weigh us down. Amen.” ~ John Barnett

A Prayer For Escaping the Pit of Depression

“Lord, it seems as if my world has collapsed, hurling me into a deep, dark pit. I come to you in complete surrender. I am desperate for you, helpless and afraid. Please lift me this pit and show me the way, Lord.   In Jesus’ name, Amen” ~ Mary Southerland

One Weapon You Need Against Holiday Depression

Prayer Against Holiday Depression

The scent of pine and cinnamon filled the air. Presents were piled high around the Christmas tree as it twinkled a rainbow of colors.

Peace and joy should have filled the heart of each person gathered to open the gifts but although their faces revealed smiles, for the most part a different emotion ruled in their hearts.

Grandma was remembering Christmases when Grandpa was the one who passed out the gifts to open and a deep sadness filled her heart to the point that a tear or two slid down her wrinkled cheek.

Barbara, although smiling was thinking of the mess everyone was making and how tired she already was, and why on earth did Gary give her that stupid looking scarf?

She hated wearing things around her neck.

She thought he knew that.

What she really wanted was that brand new cologne that had just come out.

He was a terrible gift giver.

Barbara’s sister, Joan was visiting for Christmas because her husband had served her with divorce papers last month. She was hoping that his Christmas was as miserable as hers was.

Gary couldn’t help but worry about how much all these presents had cost him and what the credit card statement was going to look when it came in this month.

He preferred to keep Christmas shopping simple and useful.

He had no use for the gifts he got this year.

He hated wearing bulky sweaters, (his gift from Barbara), and that cologne Joan bought him smelled shoe leather to him, and not new shoe leather either.

Why did they even have to give gifts anyway?

Besides he was angry and frustrated with Tanner, his 4 year old son who had a fit when the last gift was opened and he did not get a remote controlled car.

Who gave a 4 year old a remote controlled car anyway?

Those things were expensive.

This is a fictional story that rings all too true in many Christmas circles

Instead of focusing on the joy of the moment, the gifts given and the love of family around them each person was focusing on what they did not have.

Grandma did not have Grandpa to be by her side, Barbara did not get the gift she wanted, and her husband was not the man she wanted him to be.

Joan did not have her husband by her side, she was going to have to give up her beautiful home and part with many possessions she had come to enjoy.

Her children would be shared on this holiday and she would end up a fifth wheel at other people’s celebrations.

Gary did not his gifts either and was thinking of all the money he did not have.

Little Tanner, although he did get the Lego set he requested and lots of other great presents, fifteen all together, was angry because he did not get the one thing he wanted most.

I think we can identify with this family’s feelings.

We have probably felt the same many times.

In fact this scenario is the way most people live their everyday lives.

Every one of us have two sides to our life: the full side and the empty side

1. The full side contains the things we possess.

This includes our possessions, health, relationships and qualities within those relationships.

2. The empty side of our life contains the things we do not have, the things we have not been granted.

This includes the things we cannot afford, and probably will never be able to afford.

It also includes the lack of health which could be the fact that you do not have 20/20 vision or that you do not have a pancreas that works well requiring you to take insulin.

And of course it includes the people who do not have the qualities we wish they had and those people who are no longer part of our lives due to conflicts or death .

Most people focus the majority of their lives on the empty half, while ignoring the bounty of life granted to them

Instead of enjoying their spouse or child they complain about all the qualities that they do not possess that they wish they did.

Instead of being truly thankful for the home in which they live, they complain because of some feature they wish was different.

Instead of enjoying the health granted to them they complain because of their area of suffering.

In the garden of Eden God had granted to Adam and Eve every tree bearing fruit …except one.

Imagine the bounty of their existence.

Perfect, in-season fruit any time they wanted it.

They had perfect health because they had unlimited access to the tree of life. When the serpent came to Eve, he asked her, ”Did God really say that you could not eat of any of the trees in the garden?”

“No,” Eve replied. “He did not say that. He said we could eat of every tree, but we cannot eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil because if we eat from that tree we will die.”

“He told you that?” The serpent scoffed. “You will not die. God knows that this is the best tree of all. If you eat from this tree you will be God, knowing good from evil. God is keeping something from you.”

Suddenly Eve’s focus turned from all her bounty and fixated on the one thing that was not given to her. She became convinced that she would never be happy again unless she could have the one thing denied to her.

We mirror this attitude in the way most of us live our lives.

Paul the Apostle said in Philippians 4:12 that he had learned the “secret” of being content in any and every circumstance, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or living in want.

What was that secret?

Paul does not exactly tell us.

He does tell us that he had learned to be content.

He did tell us that he knew he could do all things through Christ who gave him the strength but what was the secret of actually being able to live this out?

I believe that Paul learned to live his life completely in the full side.

It did not matter if he had been granted only bread and water or a feast. He would be grateful for what he had.

We always have bounty all around us at all times.

When we think we do not it is because our focus has shifted to the empty side of life. If we want to completely and thoroughly enjoy our lives we must learn how to live our lives in the bountiful half.

I am not pointing the finger at you because if I did I know you could as easily point one back at me.

I have not learned yet to be content in any and every situation but I am traveling the journey.

I know many of you may have a good excuse to feel sad this Christmas but why give in to those feelings when instead we can cultivate a spirit of joy?

This is a learned response and takes time and a diligent refocusing of your thoughts and emotions.

Your life is filled with bounty. Your challenge is to turn around and enjoy it.

Great Ideas to Help Defeat Depression

This idea comes from a woman living in Georgia.

She had fought depression for several months and the main strategy she found to defeat depression was reading Psalms 145 – 150 every day. When she had read them for several days,

things begin to shift.

Another Idea

Great Ideas to Help Defeat Depression

The following idea comes from a friend of Inspirational-Prayers.

She was contemplating asking her doctor for some kind of medication for

depression. One of her friends suggested taking two L-Tryptophan and

one L-Tyrosine each day. (You get them at a health food store.)

The woman checked with her doctor before trying them.

When she tried them, her depression went away.

Be sure to consult your doctor before taking anything for depression.

Note that some medications may not react well with other

over-the-counter or health food medications.

Do adequate research and get your doctor's recommendation.

  • Do you feel hopeless, irritable, anxious, or guilty?
  • Have you lost interest in hobbies and activities that you once loved?

  • Do you have insomnia ? Or you over sleep most of the time?

In the bible several great men and women of God also battled bouts of depression.  Here is a Psalm written by King David that describes what he felt as he was going through his depression.

Psalm 42 (NLT)

1 As the deer longs for streams of water,
so I long for you, O God.
2 I thirst for God, the living God.
When can I go and stand before him?
3 Day and night I have only tears for food,
while my enemies continually taunt me, saying,
“Where is this God of yours?”

4 My heart is breaking
as I remember how it used to be:
I walked among the crowds of worshipers,
leading a great procession to the house of God,
singing for joy and giving thanks
amid the sound of a great celebration!

5 Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
    I will praise him again—
my Savior and 6 my God!

Now I am deeply discouraged,
    but I will remember you—
even from distant Mount Hermon, the source of the Jordan,
from the land of Mount Mizar.

7 I hear the tumult of the raging seas
as your waves and surging tides sweep over me.

8 But each day the Lord pours his unfailing love upon me,
and through each night I sing his songs,
praying to God who gives me life.

9 “O God my rock,” I cry,
    “Why have you forgotten me?
Why must I wander around in grief,
    oppressed by my enemies?”
10 Their taunts break my bones.
They scoff, “Where is this God of yours?”

11 Why am I discouraged?
Why is my heart so sad?
I will put my hope in God!
    I will praise him again—
    my Savior and my God!

We see that David was broken hearted, deeply discouraged, his body ached, he was crying and sad.  We also see his solution to his depression which was to praise God.  Worshiping God brought him his depression.  We know that while you are going through the depression you may not feel worshiping God but if the bible offers it as a solution I think it is something we should do!

Another great man of God who suffered from depression is Elijah.  He had just come the major victory of calling down fire on the false prophets and now Jezebel was after him.  What we learn from this is that after a great victory, or even sometimes going into a great victory, you may face depression.

1 Kings 19:4-5 (NLT)

4 Then he went on alone into the wilderness, traveling all day. He sat down under a solitary broom tree and prayed that he might die. “I have had enough, Lord,” he said. “Take my life, for I am no better than my ancestors who have already died.”

5 Then he lay down and slept under the broom tree. But as he was sleeping, an angel touched him and told him, “Get up and eat!”

We see that Elijah was suicidal and the solution to Elijah getting his depression was basically for him to eat something.  We are not saying that it will be this simple for everyone because each person’s process is different but we are saying that there is a solution for you and God can show you what it is.

We see in this following verse the Apostle Paul’s discouragement and that God sent Titus to encourage him and his joy returned.

2 Corinthians 7:5-7 (NLT)

5 When we arrived in Macedonia, there was no rest for us. We faced conflict from every direction, with battles on the outside and fear on the inside.

6 But God, who encourages those who are discouraged, encouraged us by the arrival of Titus. 7 His presence was a joy, but so was the news he brought of the encouragement he received from you.

When he told us how much you long to see me, and how sorry you are for what happened, and how loyal you are to me, I was filled with joy!

Know that in the midst of your depression, God’s word offers hope and insight on how to get it.  Put your hope and trust in God.  Praise Him. Worship Him.  Put on some worship music and sing to God, ask Him to deliver you from that spirit of depression and know that He will do it.  If He did it for the great men of the bible, He will do it for you as well.

Say what you will about Joel Osteen, you would have to be blind to not see that he has the gift of encouragement.

Regardless of your denominational affiliation, watching one or two of his sermons if you feel depressed will surely lift you it!  That is his spiritual gift at work in the body of Christ and at times when you feel you need it getting a word of encouragement from him will help. Here are some of Joel Osteen’s sermons

Here are some scriptures for you to meditate on to help you the depression:

Deuteronomy 31:8 (NLT)

8 Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the Lord will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

Psalm 3:3 (NKJV)

3 But You, O Lord, are a shield for me, My glory and the One who lifts up my head.

Psalm 34:18 (NLT)

18 The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; He rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

Romans 8:38-39 (NLT)

38 And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love.

Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.

39 No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Prayer for Depression

Isaiah 41:10 (NLT)

10 Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God.

Jeremiah 29:11-12 (NLT)

11 For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord. “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope. 12 In those days when you pray, I will listen.

John 16:33 (NLT)

33 I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”

2 Corinthians 1:3-4 (NLT)

3 All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. God is our merciful Father and the source of all comfort. 4 He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others. When they are troubled, we will be able to give them the same comfort God has given us.

Psalm 118:17 (NLT)

I will not die; instead, I will live to tell what the Lord has done.

Here is a Prayer for Depression:

Holy Spirit you are the Comforter and I ask you to comfort my heart at this time.  Fill my mind with your wisdom and enlightenment to see a way this state of depression.  I ask that you would send forth your warring angels to bind the spirit of depression and evil around me.  Close every door that I have left open to this spirit.

Send your ministering angels to speak life, truth and hope to me.  Guide me on a path of revival and renewal.  Refresh my spirit and fill me anew with your joy.  May the joy of the Lord be my strength.  I repent for not trusting and putting my hope in you.  I pray that your grace will fill me and that I will have a renewed hope in Your word and Your promises.

Give me the gift of discerning spirits so that will see where and when this spirit of depression comes in and bind it up before it attacks. No weapons that are ever formed against me shall prosper and I know that I shall live and not die to declare the salvation of the Lord.

Fill me from the top of my head to the tip of my toes with your Holy Spirit, with Your peace and Your presence, in Jesus name. Amen

Here are some other prayers for you.  And some other spiritual warfare prayers.
