House-Wife’s Prayer For The Coming Day

The Prayer to St Joseph

House-Wife’s Prayer For The Coming Day

Prayers to St. Joseph, the foster-father of Jesus, date back almost as far as 50 A.D.! Even though he came from King David’s noble ancestry, St. Joseph lived a life of great humility and adoration to his Holy Family as a carpenter.

St Joseph and Infant Jesus

Matthew’s gospel characterizes him as a “just man” (1:19). He is the patron saint of the Universal Church, and people call upon his aid for workers, families, home buyers and sellers, and the grace of a happy death, among other requests. St. Thomas Aquinas once noted that St. Joseph is unique among patron saints in that he is able to assist us at any time for anything.

St. Theresa of Avila echoed this idea when she wrote “I know by experience that the glorious St. Joseph assists us generally in all necessities. I never asked him for anything which he did not obtain for me.”

This prayer is among the earliest invocations to St. Joseph, and also one of the best known:

Oh, St. Joseph, whose protection is so great, so strong, so prompt before the throne of God, I place in you all my interests and desires.

Oh St. Joseph, do assist me by your powerful intercession and obtain for me from your divine son all spiritual blessings through Jesus Christ, our Lord; so that having engaged here below your heavenly power, I may offer my thanksgiving and homage to the most loving of Fathers.

Oh St. Joseph, I never weary contemplating you and Jesus asleep in your arms. I dare not approach while he reposes near your heart. Press Him in my name and kiss his fine head for me, and ask him to return the kiss when I draw my dying breath. St. Joseph, patron of departing souls, pray for us. Amen

The St Joseph Novena

Saying a St Joseph Novena can be an effective way to get what you’re asking for. Say these prayers for nine days in a row. Pray with the same cause in your mind each day, and really mean the words you say.

Day 1: Oh God, guide of those who listen and helper of those who hear your voice, speak to me, as you did to St. Joseph, and help me accomplish the things you give me to do .

Day 2: O God, you love your people and bless the ordinary lives we quietly live. As you blessed St. Joseph, bless what I do, however, hidden and simple it may be, and let all I do be done with love.

Day 3: O God, ever faithful, you remember us always and in time reveal your blessings. Help me trust in you, as St. Joseph faithfully trusted, and never let me lose faith in the wonderful gifts you promise me.

Day 4: God of families, bless the family that’s mine. Keep us safe from harm, and never let evil come between us. Let peace remain in our hearts.

Day 5: O God, who loves children, be kind to our children today. Give them eyes of faith for seeing far, a loving heart for welcoming life, and a place always at your side.

Day 6: God of our heavenly home, bless our home on earth. Let the spirit of Mary and Joseph rest at our table, shape our words and actions, and bring blessing to our children.

Day 7: God, our Father, give your fatherly spirit to those who are fathers now. Joseph, give them hearts of devoted love for their wives and children and strength for forgiveness and patience.

Day 8: Give shelter, O God, to those who need it, and bring together families divided. Give us enough to eat, and decent work to earn our bread. Care for us, O God.

Day 9: Bless all families, O Lord especially those in need. Remembering the life of your Son, we pray for the poor, for those who lack a good home, for those in exile. Grant them a protector Joseph, O God.

Prayer to Sell a House

It is believed by some that by burying a St Joseph statue in the yard of a house for sale, will help sell the house more quickly. Whether this actually works or not is up to debate. But, there is certainly no harm in trying.

How to do a Prayer Walk through Your Home

House-Wife’s Prayer For The Coming Day

As a wife, mom, and homemaker, there are so many things that I desire to have in my home: Service to God, love, peace, safety, hospitality, and grace, just to name a few. Before we go out into the world each day, our home is our starting point.

I want this place to be so saturated with prayer, Scripture, and service that evil has no opportunity to invade. When my husband comes home each evening, I want him to be greeted with an abundance of peace and love.

I want to be able to sense God’s presence here every single day.

Talk about homemaking goals, right? If you’re anything me, a house that sounds a dream come true!

So how do we begin to cultivate a home full of God’s goodness?

One way is to saturate your home with prayer through regular prayers walks. Use this time to lift up your family and home in prayer to our Lord. Trust Him with every aspect of your home, seek His Will, and commit to following His lead.

What’s a prayer walk?

A prayer walk is just it sounds! You take a walk through a building or area, praying over each part as you go. This can involve thanking God, asking for blessings, and requesting protection.

How exactly do you take a prayer walk through a home?

Start on the outside of your home, pray over each window and doorway. Once you’ve done that, start praying inside your home. Pray over each room, your family, and visitors that come into your home. Use prayers that praise God as well as asking for any specific needs your home and family may have.

You can do a more formal prayer walk each week and a more informal version daily, praying over each room as you go about your daily routine. Find a structure that works for you and commit to regular prayer walks through your home.

Entire house

Pray that your home be built on the solid foundation of Jesus Christ (Matthew 7:24-27, 1 Corinthians 3:11).

Pray for your family to serve God (Joshua 24:15) and glorify Him in all you do (Psalm 115:1).

Kitchen and Dining Room

Thank God for His provision (Matthew 6:31-32).

Pray that your family’s true nourishment comes from God (Matthew 4:4, John 4: 13-14, John 7:37-39).

Bedrooms

Pray for the Salvation of each family member, if they have not already committed their lives to Christ (John 3:16).

Pray the Armor of God over each family member (Ephesians 6: 10-18).

Pray that your family finds rest in God (Matthew 11:28-30, Psalm 4:8).

Pray for each family member to exhibit the Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23).

Living room

Pray for peace between within your family and those around you (Romans 12:18).

Pray for your home to be a welcoming place where you can host and serve others in the name of the Lord (1 Peter 4:10, Hebrews 13:2, 1 Peter 4:9).

Office

Pray that you work as if for God and not for man (Colossians 3:23).

Pray for hearts of financial stewardship and giving that glorify God (Deuteronomy 16:17, 2 Corinthians 9:7).

Pray that you and your family do not develop a love of money (1 Timothy 6:10, Matthew 6:24, Hebrews 13:5).

Doorways and Windows

Pray for protection from evil and its influences (2 Thessalonians 3:3, 2 Samuel 22:3-4, James 4:7, Isaiah 41:10).

Pray for a peaceful home full of God’s presence (Hebrews 12:14, Philippians 4:6-7, John 14:27).
